What I don't understand is why GTSport trailers look so sad? I know it's honest from Poly but a trailer with aliasing, glitchy shadows and half-finished tracks... We went from crazy trailers in GT5 (big big bullshots^^) to this. I don't see why they keep showing GTSport given pre-orders are closed !

Because that is all they had, I'd guess. The May reveal was evidently too soon.

Pre-Orders are only closed from Sony themselves, shops will still take your order and even money in some cases.

I didn't say new stuff either man :) I just said stuff.

Well what stuff could they show that wasn't new but give us something to talk about? It was kinda inferred it would be new.

They will announce the new release date when GTS will be really ready.

99% sure of that? ;)

They said they would continue to exhibit the game and at some point will have new experiences for people to try, they didn't say they'd have new stuff to show only a fortnight later. I mean I could be wrong but you're setting yourself up for disappointment IMO. You don't go from delay announcement to "check out all this new stuff" in two weeks.

No doubt their primary focus should be getting the game out and running, you might see the number of events they are reduced as a result, considering what they have to do to get the game released whenever they see fit.

Lol

In other news, I somehow only just noticed that Kaz directly mentions PBR in the delay update:

"From the start, the title has been one of our most ambitious undertakings, using the latest technologies, such as physics-based rendering and sound simulations"

Is that the 1st mention of this? Or am I just being dumb/inattentive?

Yes, you're right. First confirmation they're actually doing that, up to now it was just assumption.

Does that verify the theory that they couldn't just import the PS3 premiums because of PBR then?

Who is the GTP expert on this? @TrevorPhilips ...? I can't remember...

It was one of my points yes, there are other points too. But you know, some people here believe they would have looked just as good with a straight up port. They wouldn't have by any stretch, they would look flatter than flat when standing next to a car with full PBR, but you can't tell these people. Internet for you, they need to be spoon fed this information instead of using their own eyes.

Ah cheers man, so it is a major thing then? I have very little idea of how it works...

I have no idea.

On another front. I just qrealised, this is the only game where we can drive a GT-R GT3. Feels like PD has the only licence for this car. That's how I felt about the Altima Supercar. However, that car is in FM6(along with the Super GT GT500 GT-R). What gives?

PD/Sony get to pick which car they want. Do you think PD/Sony would want a Altima?

As the end user, the most important thing of note would be the realistic shading/lighting model based off of real world measurements of materials. Funnily enough (besides the obvious scape shots) We know they are using some pretty advanced and already measured values thanks to @queleuleu.

GT Sport - Trailers, Videos and Screenshots

Using these values more or less guarantees consistency in all lighting conditions. So no more looks good in one condition and looks indifferent in others. Metal will look like metal, plastic will look like plastic and so on. Regardless of time and condition.

There are many more benefits to PBR but I've singled out this because its probably the biggest benefit (along with built in IBL) and also it makes my original point on the subject for me.

Did the old method look good in all conditions? It did not, I think we all share that view. So now if we threw in all those cars without PBR, get them to as close as possible state next to PBR (which would never be close enough AFAIC), start in one condition (sunlight), drive those two cars into the shade or tunnel, believably would fall apart pretty quickly as you would have one cars materials acting the way you'd expect and another far from it.

It's just one of the examples I used for the disparity between the two set of assets, possibly the biggest difference between them in fact, but in my view still not the biggest reason (modelling). Anyway I hope the people who were so adamant the assets were acceptable despite the painfully obvious differences start to at least think about the facts of the matter now instead of relying on the image in their head of what it should look like when combined.

The Altima has been promoting GT Academy for two years. Why wouldn't it be in the game?
Point is, is the GT-R only exclusive to PD?

Yeah come on @Zlork, shape up - JP always needs sources or proof for vague optimism. Get with the programme ;)

Naw, it was just funny how certain he was that Polyphony had all their ducks in a row. Polyphonical ducks are never in a row. It's something to do with their innate magnetic point charges interacting with the dynamic resonance of the squalosphere.

Deep.

Polyphonical is a brilliant word.
Bravo, sir!

You know, this is a good point. Leading up to GT5 I wasn't paying attention to anything about the game, wasn't on here. Caught the odd bit of news on game sites, that was it. But in the back of my mind, I knew that as soon as the new Gran Turismo was released, instant buy.

Ended up playing it a lot, and really liked it, because I wasn't aware of, and didn't care about delays, broken 'promises', weird powerpoint slides, premiums, sales figures, etc

It was simply the new Gran Turismo on a new console.

That is exactly the point I was trying to make. To the vast majority (albeit unknown in quantity) GT Sport's delay means little. Does that diminish the disappointment or frustration? Not at all.

PDI needs to get the other 5 million GT5 buyers (that passed on GT6) reasons to buy the Sport. Perhaps the online section will do it, or maybe like you stated; a new Gran Tursimo on a new console will be all it takes.

"Well atleast now the game will launch when ready"

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

More like "now the game will launch LATER" ;)

Also another thing.

Kaz said how many times that PS4 is easy to work with ?

Maybe it doesn't mean exactly what we think it means...I mean in terms of speed.

He did not said anything about speed. He just said it's less of a hassle to work with.

Which perplexed me with modeling the cars. I thought he said it was easier to port over the future proofed cars. Then, says we will build them from scratch. Let's say they have all the cars ready. Something else is holding them back.

Can it be strictly gameplay?

Disclaimer : I have zero knowledge about technical stuff. I believe it's not a matter of geometry. Some GT5 cars need here and there more polygons but how the light interacts with cars. Poly couldn't predict that PBR will be the new king and they must redo every shaders.

We can only guess what is holding them back. My money would be on locking in the 60 fps target for VR and possibly something to do with what, IMO, is a lukewarm reception to the idea of a stripped down GT game that highly favours online competition.

But it's their choice to do it for this game and not the next one. The problem is that technology continues to move forward. GTS could be innovative/different enough without it IMO. Hell, they could do a GTS with current assets/tech AND a GT7 with new technology.
