PD don't need to listen - we're some random forumers with a million opinions. What they need to do is speak. Do a Reddit AMA or pop the odd comment on here, release a screen every week/month, give a release date. They don't have to do much to win everyone over.

Ian Bell has set a great example for that, also the AC guy on facebook and elsewhere. It's not just a cool extra, it's necessary in this day and age.

You have to communicate. It's astonishing that PD don't.
This perplexes me too. Is it because PD is resting on its laurels? Serious question, as I don't follow anything to do with Xbox. Do the Forza people communicate any better than PD?

Over on the official website they have three blogs they publish weekly, 'Forza Week in Review', 'Heavy Metal Affliction' and 'Rear View Mirror'. They also have a community manager who is pretty active on their forums.

It's yet more proof of PD being stuck in the past. They haven't realised that the explosion of social media means they have a huge number of different ways to communicate with their fan base so they just don't bother. Living on past glories. Sad thing is, Joe Public will buy GTS regardless because it got GT written on it and PD will think what they are doing is still ok because Sales, whilst those of us who really care will still end up with a game that is a shadow of it's former self.

Agreed. I was trying to make a similar point either in this thread earlier, or possibly in a different thread. I think there are something like ~263,000 people with accounts on this site. Heck, I'll be generous and give 37,000 lurkers who just don't make an account. That's 300,000 people. Now, we know not everybody in that 300k is going to buy GTSport, but let's just pretend they were going to. That's only 300,000 sales. Of course, there are other websites besides GTPlanet where GT fans congregate. Let's bump it up to 1,000,000 people are Racing Sim nerds like us, who scour the internet, daily or weekly, for news related to our sims of choice.

GT6 sold 5,000,000 units eventually. This game is the first offering for PS4. Killer graphics. FIA association. I'm sure the TV commercials are going to be insane.. Casuals are going to think they're watching live TV the graphics and sounds are going to be so awesome...I think PD will surpass GT6 numbers, for sure. The title "Gran Turismo" carries so much weight.

So, if they do sell 6,000,000 units isn't that a success? From a numbers standpoint, won't Sony executives be happy with that number? If so, it says that what Kaz and PD are doing with Gran Turismo is good enough for them. It's all a matter of numbers with Sony. I do believe that PD cares about their product. But, they have overlords to answer to. The only way to send a message is to refuse to buy, however, as I showed above, even if 75% of "us" boycotted the title, that's only 750,000 units maximum...and I grossly rounded up...So, it's probably more like 500,000 units.

I dunno. Sony has already blown a bunch of money on events like Copper Box that turned out to be basically irrelevant. They're going to have to start that marketing push all over again, and it's not going to be cheap.

Yeah but look at how they have all of us waiting in anticipation. They don't have to do too much of a marketing push to get people dribbling when they release. Everybody waiting to bite already. I have a feeling when they release it will be yuuuge!!! A big bang. When that bang will be I dunno but it will be a great bang.

Have you not being reading this thread? Quite a number of people are not waiting with any kind of anticipation. Quite a few are waiting with a resigned feeling that we will once again get let down by PD.

....Damn, I just read this line in Tommy Lee Jones's twang. It fits like a glove. It really does.

By the way, I'm guessing sarcasm is one of the hardest things to get across in an Internet forum, eh?

I think you've misinterpreted what you term "anticipation".

Well, to be fair.
You know that "waiting with a resigned feeling that we will once again get let down by PD" sensation?
That also .. is anticipation. ;)

Edit.
@Imari, that's sort of a "snap", and yet the complete opposite.

Can't wait to see when it's finally released how many have bought or would be buying. We'll need to do a new poll when that time comes after a 1-2 months or so. The poll could be called "How many of you have bought GTsport or intend to buy?"
Betcha a twenny it will sell like hot bread.

Of course it will sell like hot cakes.

But it won't be available on the delicatessen counter...

I've just had a highly unlikely idea. So 400-500 cars in two years or so. That's a lot of DLC. About distribution.

I've just loaded up GT6 and done the latest three seasonal's and got three cars. Which I already had... What if, in exchange for a Season Pass, you get six seasonal's (three races and three time attacks) and for each the Gold prize is one of these extra new cars every couple of weeks..... Over two years that would deliver 288 cars to the 140 that come with the game.

Essentially win DLC?
But if you already have a Season Pass don't you already own it?
I can almost hear the cogs turning in your head, but fair to say I'm a little lost with where you're going. ;)

I could be wrong, but to me I see GTS without Seasonals, and also Quickmatch.
I think these will now be covered in regular (read non-FIA) Sports Mode events.
Same thing I guess, just no longer labelled as such.

Edit.
Ooh, wait.
Are you saying the Seasons Pass gives you access to more events?
Interesting idea.
Good incentive to buy the Pass.
First impression is I like it. :)

I mean it as a method of delivery for the DLC. Access granted by Season Pass.

Here's me playing GT in a tux.

At least it's now 100% probable we will reach 1000 pages before GTS will be out :)

....You mean, 99% probable? ;)

I'm thinking, maybe 1500 pages, though. The page count might get a periodic boost from morsels of info drip-fed through unlikely channels over the next few months. We'll see.

Anyone buying this day one is contributing to the problem. That makes you the enemy of the franchise in my book. I'd recommend waiting until trustworthy reviews come in.

Wait for reviews? Why?!

I never base my game's buys on reviews, really.
There's games with good reviews that i just hate, and bad games with baf reviews that i love, I'm not one of those kids who watch youtubers and if they say that the game is good, i buy it.

I'll buy GTS day one, and as a fan since GT1, i'm surely not a "enemy of the franchise", as you said.
If i don't like the game, that's ok... it will be the first GT that i didn't enjoyed. All others GT i played for hours and hours, GT5P kept me behind the wheel for so many time that even I find strange that a game with so few content.

...I understand how you feel. I really do. Because I was just like you back then when it came to movies. But that's all history now, ever since found a reviewer that I trust.

It seems to me that you haven't found someone like that yet. Me personally, unless you have absolute, 100%, undying certainty that the game will be a masterpiece, you shouldn't jump headlong day-one. Personal experience, sadly enough.

The suggestion that someone that buys the game sight unseen, on day one, is an "enemy of the franchise" is absurd.

An enemy of progress? Of change? Maybe. Handing your money over before the game is even out sends the message that whatever the developer is doing, you're okay with it. There's less incentive to change if people are willingly paying for a product before it's even complete.

GT is a bit like the Camry. It'll sell tons — more so than any of its competitors — but it rarely wins any comparisons. Does Toyota care? Probably not: if you were a company, which would you rather have: a successful, money-making product, or a critical darling that bleeds money?

GT used to be a cool car...
