Gran Turismo Sport v1.23 Now Available: New Circuit de Sainte-Croix, Mercedes F1 Car and More

Lol Kaz strikes again.

- The new course sucks. Terrible flow and just flat out boring.
- Cars are still sterile and boring to drive.
- Boost is still not simulated on turbo cars.
- Car sound are still awful
- Tyre model improvement is subtle at best.
- Ferrari handles and sounds nothing like the real thing.
- 7878b sound is off.

And a ton of other issues everyone has already covered. Honestly, at this point I think Polphony needs to get a new director and move onto a new racing game.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Perhaps not. But, this was the way it used to be even from the earliest Beta. It somehow changed halfway through after release. Personally, I much prefer it this way as I get a chance to race on a event that I'm comfortable with multiple time, or whenever I have the time.

This is one way to look at it. I don't mind the weekly races, but I sure hope you have to requalify after 24 hours, also, having a daily race in addition would be nice.

By the way, W08 physics seems to be quite bad. Did they hire Herman Tilke for the tracks?

How would we know if the physics are quite bad? There are what? maybe 100 people in the world qualified to drive one of those things?

Why are people assuming the lack of custom liveries is a Mercedes decision? Forza lets you do it to the Renault and GT Sport lets you at least change the colour, which is already making it something it isn't. Plus the extra model with colour variations was the exact same approach PD used in GT6 and falls perfectly in line with PD's typical stupid decisions, so I'm gonna put this one on them until there's evidence otherwise.

Holly **** the new tire phyiscs are a game changer. Before the update you coulnd't full throttle the La Ferrari or the 458 in second gear without wheelspining. Now [...] you can full throttle it even in the first gear.

For a supposed "real driving simulator" that seems reeeeeeeeally life-like (That's sarcasm, just in case you missed it). I know GT has never been that real but you do realise that an awful lot of super/hyper cars will wheelspin in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 4th gears if you just lead-foot smash the accelerator, right? Even my diesel Audi, with a whole 130bhp, will wheelspin in 2nd if I smash the accelerator at the low end of the rev range.

Sounds like Ridge Racer is more your thing?

It still wheelspins but you can control the car better, and it doesn't drag out like before. Before the update you could go 200km/h and when the gear changed it started to wheelspin wich was not realistic at all. But i understand what you tryna say.

That’s your clutch slipping, time for a new one.

not massively enjoying this new update so far :(

bought the W08 and the Ford GT, did a couple of races with both and didn't really like either.

did the qualifying for Daily Race C and found it really frustrating, well off the pace and not going anywhere near an actual Sport Mode race til I figure that out.

not a fan of the move to weekly races instead of daily as I'm pretty bored of Suzuka and pretty bored of the Megane, I suck at the new track and I rarely do Race A (might have to change that now) so that's a week with no races I actually want to do. no FIA races to mix it up either!

maybe I'll like the other variations of the new track more, get the hang of C a bit better, or find something in the other changes to like, but not great for me so far :/

Yeah, I'm totally making up something as mundane as that. Thanks for telling me how my car, that I've had for 12 years, works.

It’s just hard to believe that’s all. I mean my Audi has around 400 hp and will only spin in first when it’s wet. Does it have a stupid amount of torque since it’s a diesel? Genuinely curious now.

Driving the S660 on Daily A and it's an absolute hoot! Sounds awesome too, like an old school NSX. Makes an exciting car to race around Tsukuba in too.

So a car with high downforce should have less grip...:odd: The grip is unbelievable in real life with high downforce cars. Even top class time attack cars have extreme grip levels because of downforce.

The grip is of in GT for highdownfoce. It's always been like this, and believe me, i know what is saying!
There is no point to bring them, too arcade!

I have over decade of experiment in commercial simuators, and most of the time in open wheelers. It's so of in Gran Turismo that there is no point!

Frustrating to see GTSport being thrown around on social media, the news of microtransactions coming to the game didn't help at all.
Gran Turismo will always be the centre of discussions. It’s the biggest name in the racing genre and the only way some people (and the franchises they follow) get any eyes is by grabbing onto the coattails of GT Sport.

As for the update. The tyre model is excellent with cars feeling much more alive. The new track is my favourite PD creation for many a year. Someone mentioned earlier it feels like an old school road circuit like Spa.

I really dig the new map, especially the big layout C. Yes it doesn’t have the flow like the other tracks with it’s high speed sections followed by sharp slow speed corners, but it plays very different from what we already have. The aesthetics look great as well, lovely variety of the forests, the urban section and the bridge with some lovely lighting effects at the differerent times of day.

Honestly I prefer the PD original tracks over the real world tracks because of two reasons:
1) I already have most of the popular real world tracks in Project CARS 2, Assetto Corsa, F1 2016 or Forza Motorsport 7 so seeing the same tracks again in GT Sport would be rather boring. Of course tracks new to all 5 franchises would be nice, like Twin Ring Motegi would be great. But no need for Spa for example, I love the track and I even live in Belgium, but I’ve seen that track so many times already in racing games...
2) If there is 1 developer that can make great original tracks then it’s PD. Just look at the yawn fest that Rio is in FM6 or Dubai in FM7, and then compare that with the likes of Maggione, Dragon Trail or yes even our new French circuit.

Is your Audi four-wheel drive and equipped with unturnoffable stability control, by any chance?

I could spin the tyres in 3rd in a 63hp 1995 Ford Fiesta, even when they weren't rubbish tyres, and the MX-5, with all of 135hp 20 years ago will chirp the rears with a flat shift into 2nd.

It's all wheel drive and you can turn off stability control with mine. If its a front wheel drive Audi that he has then it would make more sense.

You hit the nail on the head there. Any Audi running 400hp will be a Quattro. I previously owned a Golf GTI Diesel 150bhp and that was running same Engine as in the guys 130hp Audi. I could spin my golf in second and even third in the wet.

safe to say PD is terrible at designing track layouts, meanwhile we still don't have Spa, Red Bull Ring, Barcelona, Hockenheim...what's going on LOL

If the Audi in your profile picture is your car (414bhp B7 RS4?) as standard it produces 317 ft-lb at 5,500 rpm (much higher up the rev range than a diesel) but it also has Audi's Quattro system with automatic torque biasing, an electronic differential lock and "Anti-Slip Regulation" (otherwise known as Traction Control to normal people). Theoretically, with decent tyres, it shouldn't even wheelspin in the wet (but then again, if you live somewhere in the US that only sporadically gets rain, or only in the winter, your roads turn to glass/ice when it does rain anyway!)

While my 130bhp B6 diesel produces 210* ft-lb, ~100 less than yours, it does so at just 1750-2500 rpm, a whole order lower in the rev range. This makes it comparatively more likely to induce wheelspin due to the low speed / low revs / high torque combo. Also my B6 diesel doesn't have any of the fancy Quattro and more advanced ESP stuff that the B7 RS4 does. With ESP (and thus TC) on my tyres will give a little squeal in 1st and (if shifting down early) 2nd before the TC kicks in. Obviously with ESP (and TC) off it will squeal like a piggy in 1st and slightly less so in 2nd, in 3rd the speed is too high (and due to gear ratios is slightly above the max torque range of the engine where diesel engines start to run out of steam) to get any wheel spin out of it.

*probably not quite that much any more, the old girl is 12 years old after all.

If you want to try it we could swap cars? I don't mind. Really.:lol::lol:

Next month will(probably) be a real world track, they've been following the "real world track month/fantasy track month" rule for a while

It’ll be interesting to see how PD handles the Croix Circuit Experience when it comes around, each layout has some similar/shared sections, but they’re all different enough to warrant separate learning experiences.

PD could also probably make a few more layouts out of the existing roads, it has a similar level of connectivity to Cape Ring.

how the hell do you not spin the mercedes w08 when going through slow corners? everytime i take the hairpins on the new track the car just spins and ive definitely slowed down enough. i think i saw someone mention that the engine makes no sound when downshifting, that confused me too, do i have my settings totally wrong? also 7th and 8th gear seem kinda pointless

Was waiting for a post like this. Will also preface this by saying there's no concrete proof as to what is really behind it, but this is what I suspect.

We cannot change the livery on the Merc because of how easy it is, with the decal uploader, to replicate the 2017, or even 2018, F1 grid. AFAIK, neither Forza (Renault) or The Crew 2 (RBR) have decal uploading for liveries, so the accuracy of being able to upload the actual logos is only possible in GTS, and thus, FOM licensing wouldn't allow for that. This is probably also why there is a second variant of the Merc in plain colors as a compromise.

It is, however, a shame that the 77 of Bottas isn't an option in-game.

Be angry at PD for the lack of both team cars. Be angry at FOM for not allowing custom liveries for it.

Close enough, it’s a B7 S4, still has the 4.2 V8 but it took a little more work to reach the magic over 400 number. Since you have such a great explanation I’ll give the switching cars a strong maybe instead of a no...:sly:
