None of the races look particularly enticing but I'll still do it regardless. I have 6 more manufacturers to sign with before I will consider retiring from these championships.

For Nations I wish they use other open wheels (MP4/4, RA272, RB Junior) instead of the usual X2019 or Super Formula.

For Manu here's hoping Nurb and DTG has weather.

I much prefer the alternating weekly schedule but PD always does random things for no reason so it is what it is.

At this point I'm kind of expecting Gr.4 to be phased out from Manufacturers completely by the official season. I think PD have realised what a complicated balancing act it is to properly balance a class that has so many different sub-identities and drivetrains.

I was excited to see the announcement of the new season -- a little less so when I saw the schedule with everything compressed into January, as I'm going to be away for a good chunk of the month. I should still be able to do the first 3 rounds of Manu Cup, so I'll be signing up for that one. Not sure if I'll do the Nations Cup, since I'll only be around for the last two events.

The timing of the announcement couldn't be better, though. I'm just wrapping up my final round of Gr.3/Gr.4 car profiling using rental cars at the Daily Races. I'll post those results here soon for anybody who is trying to decide which Manufacturer to sign with.

Knee-jerk reaction is not particularly thrilled with these races. The Gr3 at Nord and The Glen are the only two that really pique my interest. I assume the Nord race will have rain at the beginning (it will if it's truly a copy of the GTWS races)? And Weds are typically a no-go for me. I might be able to do one of the later slots, but work/life balance on Wed means not a great day for gaming.

Unfortunate they haven't added more time slots for GT1, too. Suspension tuning on a number of them, as well. Blah.

I might be one of the few that likes the Wednesday race. I can usually only get one attempt (maybe two) on the Saturday races. Wednesday is on my weekend, so it works out nicely.

Nations doesn't look particularly interesting to me. Hopefully the unannounced Round 4 is not a surprise Bump-Draft-Fest at an oval track.

Manu looks better, I expect Round 1 will be similar to the exhibition season race we had at the Nurburgring? I can't remember if GT2/3 was 5 laps or 3.

Great to see the WS events back since I have time to practice over the holidays. But I told them that I don't want Wednesday races; they never listen to me. Otherwise, eh, it's okay. I'm okay with not using Gr.4 since I kinda stink at those. I am happy to see panorama, I like that track.

I am super pumped for Nurburgring, Bathurst, and SFs at Interlagos. I'm medium excited for RBx2019 at Spa.

I'm 100% fine with no more tuning than BB/Suspension.

Mazda 3 GR4 at Fuji makes me want to throw up. How sector 3 flows into the track as a whole is like eating an entire delicious meal but saving all the vegetables for last and then eating them as fast as you can without choking.

Kind of hoping this is just so a short season can be squeezed in and then they'll go back to how it was previously. I can understand shortening the races if there's two a week, but definitely preferred the big race day feel!

Really hoping N24 has the time progression to night like the world final, that'll be awesome in VR.

Practice did.....it starts raining/overcast.....then a setting sun comes out....then it starts to get dark, I stopped at that point but I imagine it keeps going into full dark.

I've been doing some testing over that past few weeks to help me decide which manufacturer to choose for the next Manufacturers Cup series. Now that it is here, I'd like to share my results in the hope that it might be useful to some of you.

This is going to be a long post with lots of tables. If you are only interested in the final results, scroll down to the final one.

Since I don't own all of the Gr.3 and Gr.4 cars, the approach that I took was to run qualifying laps using rental cars at the daily races, then compare the optimal lap times of the fastest car from each manufacturer. I tested only on weeks that had Gr.3 and Gr.4 races since I'm a DR B driver and expected I'd need to drive both.

I tested on three weeks:

1. Week #48: Monza (Gr.4), Grand Valley (Gr.3)
2. Week #50: Brands Hatch (Gr.4), Sardegna (Gr.3)
3. Week #51: Interlagos (Gr.4), Deep Forest (Gr.3)

To test a car, I drove at least 3 laps. For most cars I stopped at 3, but sometimes I did more to compensate for driving mistakes and felt I could hadn't yet gotten the most out of the car.

For each of the manufactures I tested, I drove all the cars from the manufacturer. The tables below only show the fastest one. In the first couple weeks of testing, I skipped a few manufactures. To fill in the gaps for the final comparison, I assigned them the median time of the cars I tested.

The times aren't that fast. I'm sure most of you can do better. I suppose I could, too, if I spent more time getting faster on the tracks and driving each car more. What I think is most relevant here is how the time differ relative to each other.

And I suppose I should also point out that these times reflect my personal driving style. If you did the same tests, you might end up with different results. So take them for what they are worth.

I still haven't quite decided which I'm going to choose. I feel like Mercedes is the best all-around choice. Mazda favours Gr.4, as does Genesis in Gr.3. I'm going to think it over a bit more.

I know that, but generally rented cars get updated when the latest Gr.3/Gr.4 car from each manufacturer gets released. No idea if that did happen during last year's post-season exhibition or World Series Demo season though.

i felt more limited by my own driving skill than the car itself, and it felt perfect for the rainy Nurburgring especially. had zero experience with (and didn’t even own) the Ferraris until the last series.

considering McLaren, Porsche, or AMG. I have the most experience with AMG but not sure how a switch from MR to FR will go. I feel like everyone who beat me last time were in AMG or McLaren, and that the Porsche drivers were generally faster but more aggressive/reckless and fell back because of it

e: the main thing I need to improve on is carrying speed out of turns while also driving a defensive line and not a time trial line

I still haven't quite decided which I'm going to choose. I feel like Mercedes is the best all-around choice. Mazda favours Gr.4, as does Genesis in Gr.3. I'm going to think it over a bit more.

Great info!!! Another thing to take into consideration is tire wear and how the car is affected. In no universe is a Ferrari and McLaren relatively equal, just taking the atrocious gr.3 458’s tire wear alone.

I was going to resign with Porsche. But might go with McLaren myself. And if you’re in GT2-3, both of the group 3 and group 4 cars are pretty good

I know that, but generally rented cars get updated when the latest Gr.3/Gr.4 car from each manufacturer gets released. No idea if that did happen during last year's post-season exhibition or World Series Demo season though.

I wasn't talking about rentals, I meant cars that you have in your garage, that way you don't waste credits buying tires for rentals which you would loose when the car went away.

does anyone have a compelling reason i should switch from Ferrari? my compelling reason for staying with Ferrari is “engine go vroom lol”

i felt more limited by my own driving skill than the car itself, and it felt perfect for the rainy Nurburgring especially. had zero experience with (and didn’t even own) the Ferraris until the last series.

considering McLaren, Porsche, or AMG. I have the most experience with AMG but not sure how a switch from MR to FR will go. I feel like everyone who beat me last time were in AMG or McLaren, and that the Porsche drivers were generally faster but more aggressive/reckless and fell back because of it

e: the main thing I need to improve on is carrying speed out of turns while also driving a defensive line and not a time trial line

i was in Porsche last season, gr3 is great but gr4 not so much. Ferrari is great at Gr4. But i'm not too knowledgeable about all this.

If I rmember well Kie25 was with McLaren and was happy with it.

A couple things I noticed about the N24 race:

1) The site says 1x tire wear but in game it says 2x.

2) Site says slip is set to Custom; I didn't verify this in game. I don't like this. Going to make it too easy for people to keep up. It will also like have people sandbag around the last couple of turns in order to be behind going on to Dottenger to get the ridiculous slip sling shot effect. I really hope this isn't the case and the slip isn't like it was in the Daily A last week.

My testing has been purely qualitative - which car do I enjoy driving, isn't trying to murder me and isn't a complete donkey around the circuit. I'm leaning on bathurst and nurb as a proving ground. The porsche is, of course, the great all-around drive, but I am now leaning towards that AMG. It is really stable going down the mountain while the audi gets real squirrelly. Still might try a a few others before I decide. I've done Genesis twice now, so not testing it.

And... Bathurst with heavy damage? That's nightmare fuel. Hopefully I can capitalize on someone else's nightmare.

I guess it’s time to actually buckle down and learn Bathurst. Every time I drive it I don’t enjoy it so I’ve never stuck with it, maybe I’ll like it better after some actual practice.

Also, N24 shows only medium tires, so not wets/inters? Maybe no weather?

It’s just a short exhibition series, perfect chance to try something new. I’d go AMG, give the FR a go (and it has the awesome V8 rumble).

I used AMG last season(only did one event ). Just wish the new GT4 was added as a choice.

Selected Lexus for the GT3, as the real car is finally racing at Le Mans. Plus, just wanted to remove the Gr.4 SLS from my garage.
