I've been doing some testing over that past few weeks to help me decide which manufacturer to choose for the next Manufacturers Cup series. Now that it is here, I'd like to share my results in the hope that it might be useful to some of you.
This is going to be a long post with lots of tables. If you are only interested in the final results, scroll down to the final one.
Since I don't own all of the Gr.3 and Gr.4 cars, the approach that I took was to run qualifying laps using rental cars at the daily races, then compare the optimal lap times of the fastest car from each manufacturer. I tested only on weeks that had Gr.3 and Gr.4 races since I'm a DR B driver and expected I'd need to drive both.
I tested on three weeks:
- Week #48: Monza (Gr.4), Grand Valley (Gr.3)
- Week #50: Brands Hatch (Gr.4), Sardegna (Gr.3)
- Week #51: Interlagos (Gr.4), Deep Forest (Gr.3)
To test a car, I drove at least 3 laps. For most cars I stopped at 3, but sometimes I did more to compensate for driving mistakes and felt I could hadn't yet gotten the most out of the car.
For each of the manufactures I tested, I drove
all the cars from the manufacturer. The tables below only show the fastest one. In the first couple weeks of testing, I skipped a few manufactures. To fill in the gaps for the final comparison, I assigned them the median time of the cars I tested.
The times aren't that fast. I'm sure most of you can do better. I suppose I could, too, if I spent more time getting faster on the tracks and driving each car more. What I think is most relevant here is how the time differ
relative to each other.
And I suppose I should also point out that these times reflect my personal driving style. If you did the same tests, you might end up with different results. So take them for what they are worth.

I still haven't quite decided which I'm going to choose. I feel like Mercedes is the best all-around choice. Mazda favours Gr.4, as does Genesis in Gr.3. I'm going to think it over a bit more.
