  • The Time is Now – Win a Time Attack event using the Honda CRX MightyMouse (30GS)
Ok I guess Honda is in then. ☺️

edit - seems EA added 4 more cars, the list is final now.
So the Acura Prototype is indeed out. Aah well not the biggest loss I guess.

GRID Legends Car List

Just ahead of launch, we added the final four cars to the list - shown below. With over 120 vehicles at launch, which do you have your eye on?
  • Honda Civic FD2
  • Honda CRX MightyMouse
  • Honda NSX-GT
  • Honda S2000 Modified
Below are the other cars already confirmed for lauch…

Ok so I first downloaded the demo for my Series S. If you have Ultimate Gamepass, EA play is included, however, it does not download directly from Gamepass but from the store.
First general impressions:
  • In many ways, it is like Grid 2019 but in many others it is different. Handling is more balanced (it does have default assists that you can toggle in settings to suit your preference), so no more exaggerated power sliding or losing the tail whenever you brake hard. The differences between car classes that I have sampled are more noticeable.
  • The AI in expert level is less aggressive, but it is competitive, will challenge each other, and seize on your mistakes, also they will go off the track, spin, and crash, and that gives it flavor and some hairy moments.
  • The graphics are better than Grid 2019 which runs the base game unoptimized on the Series S (and kinda looks like butt). Steady 60 fps even with full weather effects (better than FH, cough, cough), great lighting, great colors. I tested on my 1080p VA monitor, but I will move later to the 4K TV. I'm also downloading it to the One X to compare the performance.
  • The racing editor is nice, your team customization is similar to the F1 games (not surprising?).
  • I only did a few chapters of the story, kinda feels like a looong tutorial. The video looks slightly compressed.

So, is it enough to earn my coin? I'm tilting to yes, at least the base game, and the expansions will get them much later.

Just quickly booted up on the PS5, while the whole trial installs it gives access to 2 races, 911 GT3 RS and stadium truck races in Moscow.

I agree with @Nacho Libre above in that the car handling feels more pleasant than Grid 2019, much less twitchy and exaggerated, can still throw the car around and get it moving but there is a little more weight to it. So a positive there. It's visually very attractive on the PS5, looks to be a very comfortable 4k60 with HDR, very crisp visuals. Nice sounds as to be expected from Codemasters.

The downsides so far after these 2 races. The fireworks are just way too over the top, every corner you get to there's flames and pyrotechnics, I know there's an atmosphere they're trying to convey but it actually works against it in my opinion. AI seem a bit dumb so far but hard to judge just on 2 races. There's hardly any controller feedback, the Moscow track is heavily cobbled and has lots of big kerbs but there's nothing coming through, there's some trigger response on braking and when the car breaks loose but that's it. When you go from Ride 4 or F1 2021 which have very good controller feedback, it feels lifeless.

Will get some more time in tomorrow once it has fully installed.

Also tried it on my One X hooked to a 4K screen. Loading times are quite reasonable. Since the One X standard controller is heavier, input feels a bit less responsive, but not by much. On the downside, the game goes for 60 fps but it is not steady, depending on the circuit/event stutters here and there, and there is no performance/visuals option. There is an HDR toggle in the video settings, but I don't see it doing much. Later today I will hook the Series S to the same 4K screen.

I could not care for the career at all but the online racing is pretty amusing.

...so pretty much what I expected would be the case.

Downloaded the trial, played a bit of story, quite easy. Jumped online and had a blast, much better than offline. Great exciting races, @PJTierney was in the lobby and even became my nemesis for a race hehe. Cracking fun, the cross platform makes a big difference
The hop-feature makes multiplayer so easy :)

I've played the trial for 6 races now and it's fine. Nothing particularly bad or outstanding but there are hints of Driveclub which is cool. I will do a full review soon but I specifically didn't play 2019 much because by the time I had Game Pass, Legends was announced so that may influence some thoughts.

I think I will wait for my PS5 disc in the post and start a new career on PS5 when it arrives. Nice to read all the feedback so far but you are all tempting me to jump in early on PC/EA Play but I can wait...... :nervous::yuck:

Gonna get it next month. Is there no-collision racing possible in the online lobbies?

I know no-collision is not racing to some but I'd rather have that than having pileups on the first corner or being repeatedly smashed into like I've seen happen in Autosport/2019.

Hints of Driveclub?

Anyway, I’m now officially ready for GRID Legends. Completed every single-player event from the main game and all 3 seasons. Well I guess there are some challenges/tasks left to unlock some remaining achievements but I have no interest at all to do those.

Ooh and this is how I will finish that one achievement :

I have literally done hundreds of races, thousands of laps no doubt. And I only have 14%? LOL 😂
I truly feel sorry for those 0,08% of players if they legitimately achieved that 100%.

It is kind of like Driveclub with things to do during the race like stay on the racing line, drifting, overtaking and it all helps in progression. Also the general feel with the simcade physics and a lot of things going on in view but outside of the track.

I would had done that trophy with ease if only they added the p1 gtr cause once i finished every event i just didn't see a reason to continue playing it.

That bloody trophy is the main reason I'm not buying this game. When I finished Grid 2019 (and the dlc) and saw how far I had left to grind, I decided not to buy the next game until I achieved the platinum. That's not happening anytime soon.

With my experience so far, this is my biggest gripe. While I do appreciate the 60fps target, on city circuits with a lot of cars on screen and weather effects, the stutters can become quite bothersome. I would like to see a performance option for a more stable experience on the One X.

This time round you only have to drive on every country in the game, nowhere near as grindy. ;)

Tried it out for a bit, and yeah, this game commits the worst crime possible, it's a boring arcade racer, cars don't really feel like anything, it's not outright terrible like The Crew, but not good either, just like driving a dead fish. No feedback or vibration in the controller, no skill required, it's just sleep inducing. Do yourself a favour and go play Dirt 2 to remind yourself of a time when Codemasters made great racing games.

Does anyone know if the 10h Trial starts when you begin the download?, like PS5 Trials do? Or does it start once you launch the game?

I wouldn’t know about Driveclub, but my game experience so far is closer to Project Gotham Racing. The visual experience is better in the Series S on my 4K tv. i think it goes 1440p/60 fps with no stuttering/screen tearing so far.

Apropos of nothing, @PJTierney, can you let your higher-ups know that I'm freelance and my proofreading rates are quite reasonable?

I've got a goodwill freebie for them: "reign" is what kings do, and "rein" is what you use to guide a horse... I have more.

As a Codemasters fanboy, it pains me to say it, but I agree completely with this analysis.

That is…. simply aweful. What do they want to advertise? A car crashing simulator? That features trailer from earlier this year was WAY better.

Honestly one of the worse launch trailers I’ve ever seen for a game I think.
