Finished the story mode last night and it's wonderfully cheesy right the way up to the conclusion, with some of the final races being just bonkers.
I was shouting at the screen at the end to Ado, "hire Lara!" and it looks like they read my mind. It's nice that everyone got a happy ending except the villains.

It was a short mode but really well set up story wise.

Excellent, I haven't played the Chicago one much or many races in the snow and will give them a try. I always press the brake or handbrake for drifts so will try them on the accelerator.

@PJTierney I will try and get a video but for me the audio seems to be the master volume level is too low (PS5) compared with other games when I switch over they are nearly double the volume to this game for me using headphones via USB port as I have this on maximum.
Can you check in-game to see what the audio settings are set to?

By default it's set to 6/10 but you can crank it up.

Re sound, you only need to jump between Grid 2019 and Legends and the difference is night and day. Also, spatial sound setting is greyed out on XSX and cannot be enabled.
I believe the spatial sound menu option (which shouldn't be greyed out) is something that's being worked on for a future patch but in the meantime, can you try changing it on the console level, through the Xbox settings menu?

@PJTierney I've put the sound to max in-game but the video (story) barely hearable as well as the track announcements but there it is less obvious.

The stuttering seems to happen randomly like the buffer can't keep up. Same cutscenes can run smooth or stutter. When the audio stutters the video is a bit less smooth.

I am on PS4 (base)

I had all settings on max 10 already and set to 'headphones' in game but playing again it did sound a little louder today so not sure what it was but by comparison Dirt 5 seems to play at a higher volume on my PS5 jumping straight in after. Any vibrations or any feedback seems to be missing or very low on my dual sense still, all pushed up to 150.
I hope the feedback helps. Great game

Just for reference, although I quite clearly hated the menu music - which is the mp4 version of this gif:

gCEzMXp.gif

I didn't encounter any audio problems at all, on either the Steam versions in the preview builds or the PS5 review copy sent over.

@PJTierney In the second half of the semi-pro touring car races (career), the XP counter doesn't show anymore at the end of the race. XP is added though. Seems like a visual issue only.

If there is one thing I do actually greatly dislike about the game, it's the reverse-grid starts for Career events with multiple races. I think it's based on championship position, but essentially, where you are in the standings after the first race will dictate your starting position in the next race by making it the complete opposite. So, if you're 1st in the standings going into the next race, you'll be starting at the rear of the pack.

Besides the fact that this isn't fun because it feels a bit like I'm arbitrarily being punished for finishing high, this makes races on especially narrow track miserable, because the AI will bunch up and slow down way too much, creating a damn-near impenetrable rolling roadblock. I've noticed as well that the leading AIs also has a habit of running away from the rest of the pack with ridiculous speed, so this makes racing especially frustrating in finale events, since the objective for those events typically require you to finish the championship in 1st. Rounds 2 and 3 of the Semi-Pro Super-Modified Finale are incredibly un-fun due to this. Either Hot-Lap Qualifying needs to come back from GRID '19, or there just needs to be random starting positions for each race in the Career mode.

Otherwise, besides that and the game having the habit of gifting the AI impossibly quick lap times at the end of Time Attack races, I'm having an absolutely wonderful time with Legends. Definitely having a much greater time racing overall than its predecessor, especially since they got rid of the issue in the old game where riding the kerbs, even in the dry, would almost always result in a spin.

Hey there (and @breyzipp too).

If you or anyone else has more details on any audio issues, such as what you're experiencing, what platform it's on, what game mode or camera views etc., lemme know and I can pass them on to the audio team.

They're reading the forum threads already but if there's any more detailed feedback that would be lovely :)

Ideally, we need video footage of any audio issues. Uploading an unlisted YouTube video and embedding it in here would be totally fine and I can pass it on.

You can also fill in the form here (keep it short, there's a character limit) and drop the URL there and it goes straight to Customer Service: https://www.codemasters.com/support/
I’m on Xbox Series X connected to a home stereo 5.1 surround sound system. I play 80% of the time in bonnet camera, 15% driver camera, 5% of the time far chase camera. Video recording on XBox Series X is broken (that’s another issue with the game).
Here are my remaining audio issues:
  • The audio for all spoken language is too low, even when you have that slider at 10. The volume of spoken dialogue just needs to be cranked up.
  • All the sound beeps and blings from unlocking banners, vehicle paints and what not mutes the sound from spoken dialogue if they appear at the same time. It should be the other way around, the spoken dialogue should mute the unlocking sounds.
  • Many in-race spoken dialogue from the commentators is just missing, you can see that when subtitles are on. Subtitles are shown but you hear nothing being said.
  • Overall sound quality sounds significantly inferior to GRID 2019. In GRID 2019 the sound was much richer, for example I could hear deeper bass sounds through my 5.1 system.
  • The slider for music should be split up in a slider for music during the race and a slider for music after the race (in menus). Wasn’t it like that in GRID 2019 as well? I personally don’t like the music at all for during a race so I turn it off, but the game feels/sounds so dead silent when in the menus now.
  • There are no sounds for purchasing individual car upgrades. This sounds/feels really awkward, I hope this is not a design choice? At the bare minimum, at least copy the sounds from unlocking mechanic/teammate things to vehicle upgrades as well.
  • Perhaps it’s better to have the default setting for the master sound output at 10 instead of 6 because 10 is really the normal output volume, 6 is WAY too silent.
  • Subtitles in story mode (I remember post-race dialogue in particular) are out of sync with the spoken dialogue. The subtitles run slower than the spoken dialogue.
  • Subtitles are a complete mess, really. First of all this “(name)” in front of each line in the same white colour is annoying and distracting. Secondly, new lines appear on the top row instead of the bottom row. And there is no setting to increase the font a little bit. Take Forza Horizon 5 as an example of how subtitles are done perfectly (names of various speakers in different colours etc).

Stock car racing in the snow is absurdly entertaining, particularly from an in-car view

So far it's exceeded my expectations, onto career to see how the longevity holds up.
I think you’ll enjoy it. ☺️ For me the fun from story mode continued into career mode. The fun also seems to be heavily in line with the car, track, weather and time of day settings. For example on paper I should enjoy the Mazda MX-5 Cup a LOT more than the fictional Beltra Open Wheel or Dumont T36 stadium truck. I loved that MX-5 Cup in FM5, FM6 & FM7. Well turns out the MX-5 feels a bit dull and lifeless in GRID Legends but those 2 fictional cars are a ton of fun.

Had some great joy on Yokohama at night in the rain with multiple cars and race types (elimination is thrilling there when you start 22nd 😁). Now just did a Okutama Sprint in the snow for a career race in the modified Datsun Z, great combination as well.

That’s where GRID Legends really shines IMO, finding (or stumbling upon) the perfect settings for the perfect race.

I enjoy the tourers a lot :)

But this is one of those games that throws variety at you and I think it is highly enjoyable. I have spend time in GT, Stockcars, Trucks and even some trackday machinery. The 2 classes I struggle with is Electric and Open Wheel. With Electric being a class they can throw out of the window. The sound is so extremely dull in that class that I simply don't want to go there even when cars , some of them, look pretty. It's just not for me. Luckily there is so much other stuff :)

One thing I would like to ask Codies is to let a player completely deactivate the driving aids. I have the impression there is always some kind of TC and SC going on, even with those switched off.

Dunno whether this is a thing on Legend difficulty but I'm still playing Expert difficulty and I love how frontrunners who are seemingly impossible to pass seem to slow down slightly just before the final lap so you can gain the lead.

Maybe it's my imagination but it feels like Codies has slipped the AI drivers a few bucks Ryan McKane-style so they fold, or "job" to my driver as the wrestling fans say.

I've taken to nicknaming Freya Williams "the wall" since it's so hard to get past her on lap 1.

I'd love to try out actual online racers instead of AI but there's a bug with my EA account where every time I try to link my GamerTag it takes me to the password reset screen so I'm stuck with offline for now.

Ha, I know what you mean and what @breyzipp implied earlier, the story mode does continue with the career as the AI do take on a personality based on the video's. You have a face, voice and attitude for some drivers and with that it's easy to create back stories for the others. I'm having a running battle with Foxy for instance, she hates me so despite being slower she tries to block me any chance she gets. As cheesey as the story was, it's made a lasting impact on my Grid sessions.

@UKMikey hope you get the online sorted soon, it's so good to do your career against the AI but also have some players drop in to take over some for added dynamism.

The actual online races outside of career are also extremely good fun to race in, very addictive even though there is no ranking or anything to play for other than the sheer fun of it.

Yes, The multiplayer can be real fun. I just finished an epic race in that Auto Gallery Skyline on San Francisco GP for 5 laps.
Fighting for places 1/2/3 while going 280kmh on the straight leading up to that tight section with the right hander towards the starting line..
Praying to keep the car out of the wall on the left...

Unlikely. I just got off the live chat with EA Help after they closed my support case without so much as an update. They assure me that this is a known issue with lots of Xbox users but their team are working on it and if I watch for announcements on "social media" it should be fixed "real soon". This was never a problem before EA bought Codemasters. :(

Back to the game. I realise rubbin' is racin' (y'all) but joining my team hasn't resulted in an improvement to Manzi's temperament, as he keeps trying to punt me head-first into the side of the TransAmerica pyramid over some imagined slight.

Wow, I just had the most fantastic track day, a 2X length race at Brands Hatch against Rick Scott that came to the last lap, and he defended all my attacks and beat me!

This game is so fun, and it even pulled out the minor miracle of me turning off the racing lines for good, and this is because the braking and the braking points feel so natural here, outstanding!

The random mechanical failures and driver errors that the AI can suffer are always a high point of these games. There's nothing quite like winning a race because the leader's back wheel literally fell off and caused them to wipe out their teammate on a long straight.

Haha that’s some great stuff @EngieDiesel 😄

Question for everyone, the below bunch of sponsor contracts is what you get from the go, plus all the mechanic upgrades that add more. But is there a way to get even more contracts? (or repeat the existing ones). I barely have anything to do anymore and the ones I still haven’t completed are quite specific (for drifting, electric or truck races). So while I’m doing all my GT, Touring, Tuner etc races I have no contract to run along with it.

I also completed all the sponsor challenges under the GRID Challenges (rookie) but that didn’t unlock any new sponsor contracts.

The remaining Sponsor Challenges are in the Semi Pro and Pro parts of Career, so when you get to those they should be available right away since you’ve done the contracts.

Yes the challenges, I have semi-pro already unlocked and see a few new ones there. But I was asking for the sponsor contracts. AKA the ”sponsor card“ with tasks to complete during races.

The other thing I'd like to know about the sponsors is the value of the contract? I can't seem to see any figures (Which would be the primary focus of a sponsorship deal) so I can choose the best one for me based on the requirements to achieve it.

Also, I think what @PJTierney was suggesting was that once you have unlocked the semi pro & pro & gauntlet challenges etc, then the new sponsors would appear for that set of challenges however, I'm now thinking that maybe you may have done this and no more appear?

"Sponsor" is kind of a misnomer in this case, they're really just lists of objectives to complete that give you a one-time payment when you complete each item, and then open up the one-off event that generally provides a somewhat higher payout than the other events in that tier. Once you've finished all the objectives for a sponsor there's no real benefit to staying with them so just pick whichever one you want to work on next.

As far as unlocking them, unless the upcoming content packs will include more you only get access to new ones by purchasing the mechanic upgrades. The whole thing just seems to be more of a light content gating system than anything.

Ok then I think I have completed almost all of them already. Which feels a bit weird since I only just dipped into semi-pro of career with pro & gauntlet still locked.

Love the game, but after a solid week of fun I'm doubting longevity or a pull to keep coming back.

The racing is spectacular, so much fun, but without ranking or custom championships or any sort of online progression I'm not sure the pull will be there.

This is a shame because the racing, handling and fun is absolutely spot on but I think it will suffer without the pull of progression or reward.

The story was great, loved it.

The career, isn't really a career, more a set of challenges which is fine, but everything around it seems so loose. The team mate and mechanic skill points, don't really add anything.

I don't communicate with my team mate so far in race, the mechanic adds extra cash and a few sponsors but so far, apart from points in this area I haven't felt the need to spend. Sponsors are very loose, a choice of sponsor but not value to help you decide.

I've still not felt the need to upgrade my car, I must have been given upgraded cars for the fully upgraded challenges.

All great idea's but I feel haven't been implemented meaningfully which is a shame.

It's like the opposite of 2019 in terms of features against the racing.

I've got the deluxe so will get 4 new packs, but I'm not sure what else this will bring other than new challenges to career, new tracks and cars?

Personally, I feel it has enough tracks and cars, the game could do with time spent improving area's of the game.

Hopefully custom championships can be added by a way of DLC or update, to be able to have a cross platform championship over 10 races with a team mate for the duration regardless of platform would be cool. Especially if rewards are passed out even if just badges of honour. Rare/legendary badges to race for.

This game is so close but it needs something more to complement the racing mechanics which are bang on

Is it normal that when we're playing the career mode it doesn't play any music even if we have the music settings to the max?

The BGM for races found in story mode is not present in career mode (or anywhere else), which is a shame as it increases the thrill of events, especially in mostly-silent electric car races.

An option to have music playing during any race in a future update would be nice. 👍

I fully upgraded my car for the fully upgraded events but I suspect you don't need to as I believe it adjusts the AI to match what you're driving.

@PJTierney on PS4 I have been having multiple "hangs" of the game when loading a race in semi-pro. The game doesn't respond anymore or crashes to dashboard. Very noticable in trackday and GT class in the second half of the list. The last GT race doesn't even load. Screen stays black.

Ok so despite my reservations over the overall sound mix ,loudness, I caved and bought it,so glad I did, great fun to be had, with all assists off and no rewinds with damage on playing in cockpit view trying to race cleanly with a wheel there is a challenge to be had (for me anyway) and I’m loving it,head and shoulders above the last one, which I only did about half of and got bored, great looking game as well, well done
codies, looking forward to playing thru the career
EDIT playing on series x
