@breyzipp I fully agree with the sound. I am on PS4 and I can barely hear the actors (using headphones). First thought there was something wrong with my ears. Had few stuttering issues during the cutscenes and for the rest nothing major. I do hope they add another difficulty level for the AI.

After trying to race with the music for 5 races, I switched it off. Just not my cup of tea.

Oh and the fireworks aren't that annoying. Not sure if true but has it been toned down on the base console? @PJTierney

I think it is tone down or I was too focused on driving, don't remember seeing it endlessly firing fireworks even on Series X.

Do your replays work? Mine just plonk me in the middle of a race with all the AI frozen and no option to change camera?
I haven’t tried a replay yet (normally I don’t watch these…. except in GT ☺️). But I’ll give it a go later today.

Ok I’m glad to hear I‘m not the only one having sound issues, and you even play on PS4 with headphones setting (I’m on XSX and speaker setting). I hope Codemasters identifies the issue and fixes it with a future patch.

As for the fireworks (and laser shows), they didn’t annoy me in story mode either. I was even thinking that they only occur in the finale races or races with higher stakes. I have a pretty good memory of a certain race in Paris at the last few races of story, I’ll reproduce it with the race creator and see if it’s still the same.
The only thing I don't like is the weak controller vibrations, even have the vibration up to the maximum it just feels weak. Career mode is okay from what I've tried, is just a list of events.
Yeah I agree, controller vibration feels reduced compared to GRID 2019, would be great if this was scaled up a bit more.

Does anyone else have a problem capturing GRID Legends videos on Xbox? With the basic “press and hold” of the share button on the controller. This works in every other game I use it, except in GRID Legends. 🤔 Capturing screenshots from the game (a simple touch of the same button) does work.

See the green videos of the screenshot below, when I play any of these videos I hear the sound of the game recording but the image is just green for the entire video.
And this worked fine in GRID 2019, the 5th video on the 4th row is actually a recent video captured in GRID 2019.

Maybe is a story mode problem? Seeing the white, blue and red livery, I assume those are Seneca livery from story mode.

I have no issue capturing clips from career or quick races events I made, no problems with PvP ones too.

So I have found something really interesting regarding my severe framerateproblems on Xbox Series X that could help other people with framerate issues as well.

I was playing the game yesterday and experienced lots of problems in different races to the point that I declared the game unplayable. Constant stutter through a 3 lap race... (Mostly in rain)

I was asking myself how CM could potentially let this past quality control.. So after a frustrating session I went online and read some topics about the game and I saw people praising the flawless performance on Series X... I thought: How is this possible? Is my Xbox dying? That could not be the case because every other game runs just fine.

This morning I remembered reading people have issues with certain games while running from the External 1TB Seagate expansion.
So I decided to uninstall it from my external Expansion card and reinstall it on the internal SSD of the Xbox.

Result: A flawless smooth 60FPS experience even with a full grid and full rain going on.
I played 2 races that were unplayable yesterday and had no single framedrop this time.

so installing on the internal SSD solved the problems for me.

For people doubting if they should play story mode or career mode first, if you care even a little bit about the normal flow of events in this “GRID universe” (let’s just call it that 😄) then I would highly suggest to first play through story mode completely and only afterwards start with career mode.
Some small things like all the dates on screen in story mode, your team mate and engineer in career mode, the fact that you can select a name for your team in career mode and probably also the team compositions you face in pro & gauntlet difficulty in career mode later on will all make sense. ☺️ And I’ll leave it at that to not spoil it.
It’s something small that no doubt a lot of people couldn’t care less about. Well I do notice these things and I applaud Codemasters for this nice little detail to link career and story mode together, I think it’s very well done. And now in hindsight I also understand what they ment with that very confusing choice at the start of the game (which does not justify doing that, it‘s still a very confusing choice for players new to the game).

===

@PJTierney I have an important update on those master sound output issues I posted about yesterday. I just went a bit deeper in various settings and I saw that my sound master output in the game was at 6 instead of 10. I have no clue how that ended up at 6 but after switching it to 10 the overall output volume seems decent now. That doesn’t change anything about the sound mix issues I reported but wanted to give you an update on the master output volume.

Yes those video clips were indeed all captured in story mode. I just tried to record a video clip in career mode and even just when I’m in the menus but it’s always the same green screen capture (with audio).

I get what you mean though, especially when you reference DiRT Rally 2.0. I can feed this back to the team.
How do I connect the game to Racenet? I have a Racenet account from previous Codemaster games but it seems to think I’m not playing GRID Legends yet?

I found the following thing in the settings but clicking on it does nothing. Also when I click that tile with the barcode on the main menu, nothing happens.

I used to have EA Play on my Xbox back in the days when I played Battlefield V so maybe my Xbox account is already linked to my EA account? But then I don’t get it why I don’t see my data online. This morning I did about 5 laps for both the weekly and monthly challenge.

I actually own all of the above games apart from F1 2021. I even remember doing tons of weekly/monthly challenges in both Dirt Rally and Dirt Rally 2.0 on Racenet so where did all that data go to? Apparently my account there is from 2010 (which seems legit) but it doesn’t have any of my games data?

edit - seems to be an email issue. The above is my gamer email and thus already on Racenet since 2010. But my Xbox is connected to my Microsoft account which has another email. When I log into Racenet with that one (it seems to exist since 2015 and has been given a random user name) then I see my data there.
I seem to be a world class Dirt Rally 2.0 racer though, having completed 297 races in 0 minutes. Anyone can top that? 😁

Thanks @PJTierney I understand they're on the web, but we need at least the basics in game. Top time, pb and ghost. We need to jump into the menu event and have basic stats to hand, I would lose the will to go onto the net when I'm in game and evenntually lose the will to select the option.

Thanks for feeding back.

One other thing, as has been said on other systems, on ps5 , the sound is also that low I can't hear the race controller and team mate in game. All up to 10 and other sounds lowered in set up menu but still can't make out what they're saying and it loses immersion.

I installed a special lightweight aero package on my Ginetta G40 GT5. 😁

Meanwhile this seems to be the frustration of the day… 😔

Out of the 3 races I tried to complete with either public or private setting, two of them got this disconnect. Not good… Back to offline for now.

@PJTierney can explain what the green, red and purple helmet icons are for when seen against an ai driver please? I know red signifies a nemesis but drivers can have two of the above against them and other than nemesis I have no idea of the significance of the other two and if merged with each other?

The above screenshot from @breyzipp shows the purple and green icons on two different drivers but as said drivers can have two of these icons at the same time

My goodness, I’m glad you asked (and I tried) because the replays look absolutely great in this game! It’s not Gran Turismo level but darn, it’s the first game to memory that even comes remotely close to that.

My replay was a wet race at Yokohama so I guess that stresses the system to a decent amount. I tried all camera views and switched to an AI player but it worked just fine. Also no stuttering whatsoever. Too bad recording video doesn’t work, I recorded a clip but it’s that green screen again. I hope they fix whatever replay issue you have (and my green screen videos) very soon.

@PJTierney in short I’m absolutely impressed by the replay but there is 1 thing I would love to see added to it and that’s the current lap and total number of laps. In high lap count races you get absolutely lost in the replay.

I really like this new vehicle upgrade system a lot as well. It’s simple, but it fits the GRID style of gameplay. I was just short of some mileage and credits to fully upgrade my Ginetta GT5 but I hope that once a vehicle is fully upgraded that there is an indication for that in the garage! For example it would be nice if that blue surface under the car in the icon tiles would turn yellow/gold once a car is fully upgraded. ☺️

Anyway I’m off for the rest of the day and early evening. Duty calls IRL.

Maybe I need to reinstall the game on my XSX because mine don't work at all.

I also can't link my EA Account despite restting the password a couple of times.

[EDIT] the last replay works for me now but I just can't link my Xbox Gamertag and race online. Steam linked fine.

@breyzipp good to see the upgrade system working well. Did you hit a point in career where the difficulty urged you to upgrade. So far I've not upgraded a thing but haven't really felt the need, I'm still winning my objectives on a high difficulty. I'm hoping that further into career it makes me have to upgrade

Well I was playing story mode on medium (default setting) and just left it there, it was way too easy at first but towards the last few races it became a bit more challenging. I had to redo the elimination race in Dubai since I didn’t come first there.

Now I’m playing career with hard difficulty and that seems rather easy as well (the start in GT with the Ginetta GT5 Cup). But I’m also hindered a bit with daytime sunlight for the darker or wet races. I also know as the cars become faster, my skill compared to the AI will decrease. I think I’ll keep it at hard for now, but when I have good visibility (night time gaming) then I will make it harder for me by using the cockpit camera (the driver perspective) instead of the hood camera I now use. I’m WAY better with hood camera (or bumper probably too) as with any other camera, so I rather make it more difficult by going driver cam + hard AI instead of hood cam + expert AI.

edit - ok I think I now understand what you meant in regards to the upgrading 😁 I was winning the first 2 Ginetta GT5 events with a stock Ginetta just fine. But the 3rd event is called “fully upgraded”, I did that in the stock Ginetta (6 laps in rain at Yokohama) and the first rounds I was in 10th-12th or so. As I became more familiar I was improving myself, eventually ending 3rd. That’s all against hard AI. So yeah, I was upgrading the Ginetta to redo that event and also feel what upgrades do to a car.

I need to play the game again to confirm, but:

  • Blue = Friend (both EA and console friends)
  • Red = Nemesis
  • Green = Teammate
  • Purple = Rival

Your Rival is usually who you are closest to in championship standings in a multi-race event.

FYI to everyone by the way, the official tech support area is here:
Worth logging stuff there as we have a team of support people who can collate it all and relay to dev team for (potentially) quicker fixes.

So far the only thing killing it for me is the audio. I’m on series x as well with surround sound headphones and it’s just too low…especially after 2019 where it was one of the loudest and best mixes out there. It got to the point with me where I decided not to buy cause of the audio alone….it’s just bothering me way to much I can’t get into it. Hopefully they fix the mix or add some more options back in then I’ll gladly pick it up (I think the rest of the game is great). I also tried just some stereo headphone thinking maybe it would get at least a little louder as welll but no. Oh I also play in chase cam on this game …I say that cause I feel like cockpit and the interior cams do sound better

I emailed EA Support as I can't log the game into my newly created EA Account as it keeps asking me to reset my password. When I reset it and login it rakes me to the password reset screen again.

Doesn't it mean that driver is a story rival as well as a race nemesis?
don't think so as all ai drivers are story drivers. On a list of say 21 ai drivers some have a purple icon. Only around 4 drivers, some just purple and some can be purple and red. I originally thought these were the opposite of red, ie they like you until I saw that some had both icons.
They're not all rivals though.

Ah right, thanks. So far I'm only on rookie in career but I'm hoping the career gets hard enough that the mechanics make you have to upgrade the cars in order to continue. So far I've not felt the need to upgrade buy maybe that's just where I am at this point.

Hello guys! I've already asked in the review thread but maybe this is the correct thread to ask. I've looked a bvit but couldn't find the information here (so sorry if it has been asked already).

Does this game have online-only features, or requires you to be online to unlock/access content?
Does it have a big day-one patch, or relevant bugs in general?

  • Other than Multiplayer (of course) the whole game can be played offline.
  • Game size is about 30gb depending on platform. There was a patch a few days ago but it wasn’t enormous.
  • Some minor bugs as there are with any game, but nothing that’s crippling every single player. EA support is pretty good at sending the dev team anything they come across or you report.

Yep, I couldn’t agree more. I refuse to touch the game until this is fixed as it is killing the immersion. Grid 2019 nailed the audio as you say.

I have posted about the sound issue on the ea forum as well as Grid social media pages so I hope they are taking notice and it is patched ASAP!

100 percent agree,I’m playing in cockpit with headphones on the trial,i just cannot justify buying it till this is sorted,it’s a shame ,its ruining a great game
EDIT. All audio set to ten except the music, which is off

I think we have a pretty damn good game here!
I think I agree, I am really enjoying it.

I had a little go last night and the new tracks are great, lighting and textures are better and the handling has improved on the controller and is so smooth. If you make a mistake it is usually your own fault.

I have read through and agree with others the little niggles that I hope get sorted with a patch. These are mine and tie in with others above.

Sound - quite low even on full volume 10 max - Grid 2019 was so good and it is a shame they reduced the volumes.
AI - A lot easier than 2019! I worked my way to legends difficulty and still get to 1st while in 2019 I struggled sometimes on hard.
Replays - mine also freeze sometimes or you can drive in them randomly but seems to work if you restart the game.

The feedback of cars sometimes feel the same like they glide through the race. I think this is because the vibration feedback and trigger feedback seem to be very low along with the audio it doesn't feel as 'raw' as 2019. I also increased all feedback to 120+ so really hope they increase feedback and audio.

These are minor things, I am half way through the story it gives a good mix of cars and tracks to get used to. I like the UI and the rain on the windscreen. I have been using the interior full wheel cam with gloves etc.

I feel I will get lots of enjoyment from the game over many months.

p.s I think the addition of an official photo mode incoming will be the cherry on the top and draw me back in more especially if it is on par with Dirt 5's excellent photo mode. I am using the PS5 and Dualsense controller for this game.

Originally said to myself I’d hold off and pick this up in a sale at a later date being released so close to GT7, caved yesterday after reading some of the positive reactions on here and have ordered myself a copy. Guess it’s different enough from GT7 to justify having both 😅. Plus I quite liked Grid 2019 and my main gripe with it was the lack of content and tracks plus with the career mode feeling like a checklist with no depth. Sounds like those gripes have been addressed with the new game so looking forward to giving it a go this week.
