Right now, as it stands I am still in the GT Academy, I wonder if I can still say that in 24 hours time??

Best of luck everyone! May the best man finish where ever I do. Heheeeeeheee

I'll be there on Tuesday and I'm planning to take lots of photos - a much more relaxing time for me this time round! Enjoy it everyone. 👍

Train ahead of us has hit something on the track, hope it's OK, all services stopped. Eek. Between reading and London next to a field of cows! Supposed to be in Paddington by now.

Been at Brands for about an hour now. Been over to the track as there is bikes on! Back in room now, window opened listening to them! My way off relaxing :)

Been down talking with all the other competitors and Maz. Nice atmosphere here at the mo, but a lot of waiting around until we get to do anything unfortunately. Gonna spend the next while relaxing in my room.

Was down at the circuit this morning watching some superbikes. I can't believe what Brands Hatch is like in real life. It's so steep in places and you can pretty much see the whole track no matter where you are standing. An amazing set up.

The facebook page will be updated with some interviews and pictures later on as well.

Hi I just want to mention some great news about my friend Bruno Ferreira who we all know as MEAGAINSTYOU who brilliantly won the wildcard event that they staged in Portimao today at the FIA GT World Championship event.
Bruno having done only one qualifying run at the start of the GT Academy time trial started up his Playstation a few weeks later to casually place himself into the final in Barcelona only to discovered that it wasn't working...it had burnt out !
Having contacted Sony they advised him that his only option was to enter a graphical art competition which he entered and then brilliantly won putting himself into the wildcard event in Portimao against the top 12 entries, he went on to dominate that event and has even won himself a new Playstation signed by Kaz. He even had a few laps in the FIA GT GT-R driven by Ricardo Zonta !

Congratulations Bruno, onwards to Barcelona you go !

CONGRATULATIONS BRUNO (Senna:sly:)!!

Forgive me for my incredible stupidity, but is MAY now going to Silverstone?? Exciting news, Dan.

1) Thomas Gibson 02:14.183
2) James Hudson 02:14.469
3) Dan Glover 02:14.590

Well done guys , congratz to Rutter with toptime 👍

Thanks CICO

Just back in hotel now after a long day that started at 4 30 for me. It was great to meet the guys and have some fun! Great atmosphere and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

We ran 3 rounds with points for 1st to 10th. First round was 3 laps with your fastest counting and in 2nd & 3rd rounds all 3 laps counting. Finished 1st in round 1, 6th in 2nd and 1st in the 3rd. All went smoothly for me thankfully.

The top 10 is now decided after a shootout race between 9th, 10th and 11th & 12th. Those races very exciting too watch. Tomorrow is certainly going to be tough but it's going to be fun!

Jordan Tressan will be joining us at Brands tomorrow, at least that's what Iv heard.

Better get some sleep!

Myself and Dave are through for Ireland - happy days! 5th and 8th respectively. Congrats to Rutter for his amazing drives today as well.

Came across Jordan Tresson in the bar a few minutes ago, was a nice surprise. Anyway off for a good nights sleep and full steam ahead for tomorrow. 👍

no Dan, i wish.. now i'll play at Barcelona in the PT/SP final... the top 10 in the 1st day will pass to the 2nd day only to race in real cars.. and then i think the top 4 in that final will have a chance to go forward into the next stage.. lets chase the dream..

Congrats too Jaan and James on making race camp! Best off luck guys. I think you's have a great chance to win it!

Thought I was in with a shout too get through but there you go. Seems I lost out on fitness, upper body strength leaves a lot to desired. Maybe wasn't consistent enough in the car. I'll have too try again

The finals were definitely a step up on last years so well done to organisers etc. Top job!

What a great couple of days enjoyed every minute of it, quite a few new faces and i think and the standard was higher, congrats to jaan and james worthy winners, as for me i didnt do myself justice, let the pressure get to me, first time trial i was approaching the end of my last lap and ran slightly wide costing me a good points haul, having a poor first 3 laps i scored 0, second time trial i was quite frankly poor and way off the pace at cape ring again scoring 0, final time trial i knew i had to be sort of 5th of better to have a chance of geting enough points to make day two (top 10 from 22), i was around the right pace after lap one (after bring the final group i knew the time i had to get) and then up half way into the next lap but then the corner before the corkscrew at laguna seca i cut the corner slightly, enough to get a 5 sec penalty, instantly knew i was out and ended poorly with frustration. Quite alot of pressure quite alot at stake, it showed on a few people, some people like jaan, thomas and a few others were just super consistant and fast, hats off!
Day 2 the top ten continued to fight it out in fitness, on the pods and in a real 370z, while the final 12 knocked out had passenger rides and a another competition with a prize involved, after letting myself down i atleast wanted to show i was capable of doing a few consistant fast laps! and to get abit of pride! both time trails i did reasonably well finishing both top 5 and getting 2nd overall out of the 12, so then it was 2nd v 3rd and 1st v 4th, i was drawn up against 'david williams' (i think-cant remember exactly there was about 6 davids!) we ended up having a good race i pushed quite hard the final lap and managed to win by about a second, then i was up in the final (again forget his name), after half a lap at suzuka i went to pass on the outside ran abit wide caught the grass and that was me 15 secs down, how embarrassing! ended up driving a decent race and making up 8 secs but hey it was abit of fun and ended up picking up a GT-R T-shirt, Hat and motorstorm game... a nice bonus for 2nd... abit of pride restored!
Was a great experience and nice meeting some new faces, looking back i dont think i was ready all around enough to make the final 2 even if i did hold my nerve to make the top 10! what with needing to work on my fitness and all, hopefully there will be another GT Academy! were i will make sure im more prepared, great couple of days anyway... also was cool watching the track days going on all day!
Must add how super cool jaan was very impressive, very consistant throughout!

Chris? My name's James ;) LOL

What an awesome couple of days! I absolutely loved it. I'll give a more thorough write-up of my experience tomorrow evening as I've had two hard days at GT Academy so pretty shattered and I have to be up at 4:30am for work (yay! not), but I will say this, I am absolutely honoured to have been given this opportunity and my absolute and total respect goes out to every single person that was there competing this weekend, there were some awesome races/battles and the standard was unbelievably high I really can't believe it. Oh yeah, and who was it that said the wildcards didn't stand a chance? :D LOL

Roll on Silverstone!!! :D :D :D :D

Well put everyone.

It was an amazing experience and It's amazing I could finally put names to faces!!! :). After a bit of a long travel (Not as long as others though) and nearly missing a train hehe (London St Pancras has 3 floors and is rather confusing) finally made it to the hotel :D. Excellent greeting, nice to meet Maz as well. Hats of to you for all your work you had put in!

Day 1 was crazy, especially well played to Jann, and Thomas that was some insane playing on the first day :)! Personally had to get use to those pedals and the trainers I normally where while playing (Some old rubbish ones which give a bit more feel with a flat sole) weren't really helping me feel the pedals and so struggled on that front :(. I eventually got one magical point on the first day hehe :D! Which I kind of enjoyed just to get on the scoreboard! :P.

Day 2 I took the advice from the previous evening and played in socks that kind of made a difference coming top of the Time trials in day 2 before the races :D! Lost the races unfortunately but they were good races non the less (Of course I have excuses for both of them :D! But still cracking races, and won't bore you with those :D).

A big congratulations to Jann and James, all the best for the next stage lets get the first British GT Academy winner :)!

Hopefully race some of you online when the PSN is up and have some more cracking races with you. Will also see some of you there at the next one as I plan to be at the next one :D! (But a little more prepared! :D)!

Thanks markyboy, turbo and tidgney for your detailed comments about the event, been waiting for some decent info, hope you guys got some decent pictures for us all to look at :)

Congrats to James  well done!! you have proved that probably the top 50 in the time trials would stand a chance at round 2

Would love to join you guys for some races when PSN up.

Also how hard was the fitness tests??

Looking at the guy who came second 'James Hudsen', a search on the net comes up he is already a highly experienced drift racer as you can see here http://vimeo.com/1366620. I thought the whole point of this competition was to find gamers at home who play the game who have little or no experience at real racing, and convert them to a real life racing driver. If this is allowed??? this opens the door to any semi proffesional to use the gt academy which is designed to find people from the game to the track, not from the track to the game to the track. Also looking at the circuits used, it seems to favour the suzuka track which was the wildcard combo which James qualified on so obviously had much more practise at that.

Wow!!! What a great experience the last 2 days were!

I didn't make it to day 2 which obviously wasnt what I had wanted but didn't stop me having an amazing time, I love meeting new people but you guys were instant family!

I'm absolutely exhausted, hardly any sleep last night due to alcohol being forced upon me ;-) heheeehee. I need some rest but I can't stop thinking about the last 2 days and all the people I have met!

Massive respect to jaan, totally deserved to win from what I saw and my prediction after day 1 was jaan an Ed to go through so I got 1 right anyway.

Also a big big well done to James, I know how much you are loving getting through and I know you realise how lucky you are to have the chance of making it to Dubai. Well done both of you and best of luck at silverstone!!!!!

So pleased to have met Ed, Davissi, Anzel and Cindy, Martin (tidgney) and Ashley, dessy and the other guy from Ireland, James, and I really can't remember the names of the other people I spent time with, just so glad to have met you all and privileged to have been in your company for the last few days.

Omg how did I forget, also massive respect to Jordan Tresson for driving me around the Brands Hatch circuit in the 370z race car!

Omg I need some rest, love you all, Glenn.

Well we had another great event didn't we ! There's some really nice people involved in these competitions I must say. Great hospitality and I love the respect we get from the people from the motorsport fraternity.
Its easy to see why people appreciate the running of this event, to be treated so well.

I think I'll list some thoughts about what I pleased for and didn't pleased for about the format.

Positives:
Fitness tests
Real driving
focus remaining on the game
Time Trials plus combined TT's (far less affected by odd circumstances)
Media Interviews
Remaining knocked out contestants kept involved.
Good choice of tracks, cars and tyres.

Negatives:
The wildcard combo should not have been mirrored in round 1.
Lot's of bendy planks allowed to carry on bending !
Split screens are OK but mistakes were made like putting Ed Dunford in second place on the grid in his head to head having gone faster than his competitor Jann in the day 2 qualifier at a track where its difficult to pass without risking penalty and only 2 laps.(Little things that have such a big effect on results)

Also Tim kept avoiding eye contact with me after my split screen race with Anzel, I personally think it would be a good idea for Tim to experience what its like playing this game when you build a lead only to see it wiped away by an unrealistic slipstream. Driving up the banking on purpose then taking the pitlane line and slowly moving to the racing line could save someone having their race win stolen in such important circumstances like making day 2. Also Anzel tried to block me because I was following up fast in his slipstream also, what else is he gonna do ? Give it to me on a plate ??
You can't just think 'they wouldn't do that in real life' having a little better empathy for what it must be like for the players in that critical position helps.

(Positive suggestion) If Tim did a load of races in the game with someone like Maz beforehand and really got into the race game state who better then to bring judgement from both perspectives ?
For example, the split screen view is actually closer to the front of the car that's why everyone was rear ending everyone else.

I'm being a little critical of Tim there but every one of us involved learn from our experiences and move it forward to the following event and that goes all the way from the competitors right through to the organisers and the referee.

Congratulations to the winners and I'm glad it appears most of the points were from the gaming element with perhaps just the right amount of insight into the driving, media and physical elements too.

Lot's of hard luck stories out there guys its so frustrating isn't it ? I did my usual trick, thought I would easily go fastest on Suzuka this morning after seeing my warm up lap time, (good enough for 6th) sat back put my feet up and took my eye off the ball. Twice in two days at Suzuka, gotta be lack of racing lately perhaps, very poor concentration from me today, lack of alcohol ? :)

That's pretty much all of my thoughts that I could muster up anyway, so all the best to everyone...that's that done !

Good luck to the UK finalists !

due to alcohol being forced upon me ;-) heheeehee.

hehe Im sure that should be my quote ;). Nah awesome meeting you Glenn, Lets make sure we're in the next 1 :D, and the drinks are on me next time :P!

I'm very happy that I was a part of this competition and it's been the best experience I've had in a long, long time.

From Day 1 I think we all knew that there was something special about Jann and he proved just that by finishing at the top in pretty much everything he took part in. Hope he goes far in the final event. Congrats to James also who put in some great performances in the game and in the real car.

And on the topic of the real driving, our instructor Chris later told me after the results that I was one of the fastest, most consistent and was surprised that I wasn't one of the 2 to make it through. In the end it came down to not scoring well in the GT5 section. My only criticism of the whole competition would be that the GT5 element was weighted too high (?) - and it shows as the top 3 overall were the top 3 in the game as well.

But I can't complain, I wasn't good enough where it mattered on the day so there's no need to think about what could have been. To be honest I pushed myself further than I thought I could go and that's the main thing in my eyes.

The passenger laps with Jordan were insane. Such a feeling coming down off paddock hill bend - nothing like I expected it to be. Sitting around with David Croft and talking about F1 over lunch was also a highlight for me.

Finally, to all the contestants I got a chance to talk to, some more than others unfortunately, you were all a great bunch of guys and I wouldn't have a bad word to say about anyone. And to Maz as well, really enjoyed chatting to you when I got the chance and of course our friendly race on the Ring at the end of the day :)

I'll prob be a bit distant on the forums for a while, but I'm sure I'll follow the progress of the guys and I wish them both the best of luck 👍
