Hopefully I don't have to play the underdog card all through Silverstone, that was nerve racking.

Last year it didn't matter if you were 1st or 16th going into Silverstone - it all reset when we landed in London. I don't want to assume but I imagine it's the same deal this year.

Ah yes. But that won't determine the underdog. The odds in Vegas and Atlantic City will ;)

If you could have made it for the Racer X comp, you would have been a contender. Don't sell yourself short.

But then ponyboy wouldn't have made it, so the numbers would be a wash. (Apparently Rich, Travis, and I all suck at grinding a time-trial.)

If they do it again next year I'll probably give it a *real* effort. This year was really bad timing, only had 6 days that work didn't monopolize during the 8-5 weeks and I lost 2 of those by being in the hospital.

I'll be a LOT happier if they do more of a combination of the 2011 and 2012 format. I liked the cone'd anti-cheat mini-game setup this year, but they should have made the qualifier more than 1 track like 2011.
So if they repeat the 8 stage mini-game again I'd like to see all 5 events in round 8 be full-lap (or multi-lap) events with the total of all 5 scored. Would make it a lot less tedious.

I think I might start a GT Academy spec racing league using the Nissans to practice for next year. I'm definitely not 100% happy with my performance this year and know I have the talent to perform well at Silverstone, just sucks a couple instances I was taken out or pushed wide and lost time or even a position due to someone elses driving. Only one time was it my fault I spun. Either way making it next year is the plan. If some of you guys want to do the Nissan spec racing like we have been for practice let me know and I can start trying to get something organized like finals. Also, I'm thinking about starting a facebook group for us finalists so we can keep in touch and know who is who a lot better.
If you're going that route, the pre-final races are a good template to start with.
You should really just do a variety of racing leagues around GTP. It's not an accident that lots of the final 16 are people who I've been racing with regularly over the last year.
ALL seat time is good seat time. Be a racer not a gamer.
Given the varying level of racecraft I saw during the finals, I'd be doing a mix of leagues and random online races. You won't always be racing with familiar people, and that adds a level of difficulty, plus some uneasiness.

I'm not. In fact, I'm confident that if I could get into Finals, I might as well pack bags for Silverstone.

If only I could actually qualify in the first place. What I'd give to trade in some consistency for a bit more speed. :banghead:

Congratulations and good luck, once again, to all of the guys who made the cut, and even to those of you who didn't; as I said many times on the stream, you all have a lot to be proud of.

It was a very special experience for me, meeting so many GTPlanet members in person for the first time. Having real-world conversations about different areas and topics from the site was quite surreal.

I felt bad knowing that one group of you could hear our commentary from the stream, but the Nissan guys insisted that we be heard for the audience in the room. :ouch: It really was quite difficult coming up with things to say, and I have an entirely new appreciate for live broadcasters now.

Hopefully I'll have more opportunities to get involved with these types of events in the future. :)

Thanks for the hard work you put into GTP, and was an honor to meet you in person, like I've told you GTP does so many things for all of us in the community. Hopefully they allow headphones or something next time with that kind of enviornment. Either way I'll be more prepared next time.

I think you did great! And it was great to meet you. 👍

I would love to take part. I need to improve significantly to be able to keep up but only one way to do that. Practice and learn from the best. So please sign me up. I aso think it might be good to not just race Nissans. Any practice is good practice. Also what if they have a new sponsor next year?

Also I wondered if doing a three tier spec race might be fun. Everyone qualifies in the slowest of the three cars then split in to 3 sets of 4 for the race with the fastest 4 being in the fastest car and the next 4 in the middle and the last 4 qualifiers in the bottom spec. Run a race and then the 4th place in tier 1 and 2 drop a tier and the 1st place in tier 2 and 3 move up. It would separate the best drivers from people like me but still give me something to shoot for as well as adding a bit of pressure. May just be too complicated.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to echo the same sentiments expressed by many already in this thread; it was a genuine pleasure meeting you all, I feel like I formed some genuine relationships in San Diego and I'm very thankful for that, win or lose. Can't wait to see you guys on TV!! Best of luck to my twin bro Forced and the other competitors (but more luck to him than anyone else heheehe:sly:)

Cheers
Joey

Definitely was a pleasure meeting ya, and your bro too!! I'd say he's definitely my favorite going to silverstone and taking it all the way. Was nice meeting gator(what a genuine guy) and everybodyelse for that matter, was great putting faces to psn IDs and getting to know everybody the last few weeks.

Hopefully I'll have more opportunities to get involved with these types of events in the future. :)

I can see a future where Gran Turismo is as big an online streaming franchise as Starcraft. Some of these races, particularly Wardez, where absolutely enthralling. When racing is good, it is good.

Only if they actually focus on upgrading their online component to something, well... let's just say a day where nothing goes wrong is a miracle.

The Academy races were okay, but I've definitely seen better. I chalk that up to the fact that they were coming in cold.

I agree GT6 needs to have upgraded netcode and other tidbits but online racing in Gran Turismo can have huge entertainment value. While this is two ifs, if the drivers are of a high caliber and clear rules are adhered to I truly believe it could be a good online spectacle.

Did the National Finals preparation meets/spec racing helped you(top 32) be in the groove quickly (despite the distractions/wheel setup)?

My best wishes to all of you for what's coming...
Have fun!

Hey everyone! This is Kevin from IGN, the guy commentating with Jordan over the weekend. After the pure bliss of racing on the GT Academy sleds, it's time to pony up and buy a wheel. Need to get off the controller. :P Hope you all enjoyed the show! I'll be poking my head around here often enough.

You both did a great job, really well put together 👍.

Welcome, Kevin! Great to have you here.

Agree with the above, you both did a great job.

💡 How about you two race and we'll do the live commentary.

Guys you 2 did an excellent job! Thank you for keeping us up to date with awesome comentary during the event! excellent coverage!

Welcome Kevin! Great job with the IPL live stream. I am watching the archive off and on now that I'm home. We never met at the event; I was hanging around doing other things and you and Jordan kept pretty busy putting a lot of hours into the broadcast. I am the 2011 GT Academy US champion.

And yes, GT5 is a much more immersive experience with a wheel and pedals!

I will be brutally honest, my expectations were not high going into this stream. I figured it was just "some guy" they parred with Jordan (the GT expert). You did a fantastic job. Your interest in cars really made your commentary on the game and conversations with Jordan enjoyable. Talking about Spa and cars in general. That was really needed to fill the large amount of space between the actual racing action.

I never had this face :indiff: or this face :guilty: or this face :grumpy: or this face :yuck:during the broadcast. At first I was like :scared: then I was like :). I hope IPL, Gran Turismo and GTPlanet can collaborate on projects in the future.

Welcome Kevin!
As others have said, I've been watching parts of the stream here and there and think you all did an amazing job. Really spiffy commentary. I'll have to link you to some experiemental live commentary I did myself for different league races here on GTP on Twitch.tv so you can watch how us amateurs do it :D
It's not easy at all.

I really appreciated your passion for motorsport going into it and how you autocross yourself. You were so right for this event.

Also btw guys, I did confirm Silverstone is a week long program, not two.

Hey Kevin!
Joey (veloci_2nr) and I watched through the whole live stream on sunday after we got back to his house and I have to say thank you to you and jordan for doing such a professional job :) I must admit while I was racing I had to try pretty hard to ignore you guys especially if I made a mistake but it made the overall experience so much more dramatic!

Thanks again to everyone. I've said it a billion times over the weekend and I warned a few of you guys that I wouldn't stop saying it, but for my first live racing experience this weekend was absolutely incredible and will have a ton of memories. Here's to making some more incredible memories at silverstone! :gtpflag:

Welcome Kevin! Just wanted to say again and echo everyone's sentiments that you and Jordan did an amazing job :) Liked the sense of humor and the camaraderie you both had throughout the broadcast.

Oh man. Yeah Pat, being in the hot seats was pretty insane. Having every little move you make be brought up. Worst thing was stepping out for a bit, you'd hear "oh! Oh! Oh!" and then I'd save it and they'd be all, "wow! Nice save" xD
it was surreal. Then there'd be moments like, "wowo can Edward keep the pressure on and make the pass?!" and I'd think to myself, "Wow, I dunno, I hope he can, looking ok- omg keep focused!!!"

Even being in the other set of seats, I could hear my friends' races behind me and could hear their names being called out at misfortune and would feel sads :( . But I'd keep as focused as possible and played it smooth, never once had an accident so that really did it for me in the end.
