Done for the night here too. How much of an advantage is having sound? Anyone have any ideas for sound if you are using a computer monitor?
Depends, for me it's a massive improvement. I don't like to look at the tacho' once I get to know a car, so I can, for example, get an idea of my mid-corner speed by the sound alone. For some tests it also helps for changing gears at the right time whilst keeping your eyes on the road / opponents. Then there are the tyre noises etc.
If, like mine, your monitor is using the HDMI output of the PS3, you need to enable the sound on all outputs in the PS3's sound settings in order for the composite connection to carry sound too. I'm assuming, if your monitor has in-built speakers, it won't accept audio over HDMI.
All you need then is some way to connect the male RCA outputs (red = right, white = left; yellow is video) from the PS3 to whatever input your speakers require.
That's most likely going to be another pair of male RCA connectors, or a male or female 3.5 mm stereo "jack" (TRS connector).
Be wary: some female / female 2xRCA to 3.5 mm adapters say "stereo" because they have two RCA inputs, but may only have a mono 3.5 mm (TS) output; i.e. they're just merger / splitters.
This one might be OK for the job, though, if your speakers have a male 3.5 mm connector, or this if your monitor has a female 3.5 mm "line-in jack".
That's all assuming you want to use any audio hardware you may already have. If that's all a bit too complex, you could just buy some compatible USB headphones / headset, but I have no experience with them.
