Does anyone know how long they plan on keeping this program going?

Its either 11 or 12 more days. Or do you mean how long do they plan doing this in general. If that's the question. Your guess is as good as mine.

Not what he means.

This could be a yearly thing. I think Kaz wants an army of racers to take over the racing world. :sly:

As long as they can get quality real world drivers, I assume. As soon as they start to not see enough talent in the final rounds they'll know they've got the best of the crop and will leave it a few years before doing another one.

I finally knocked a tenth off my time i loaded a slower ghost and i went faster lol. Only bad thing i beat the ghost by half a car but my time was slower than ghost by like.030 lol. Either way im happy i shaved some time ran 1:31.675 for 13th US 12th if you dont include letcanadain.

Also was wondering if there was anyone up in rankings that not eligible?

Apart from the obvious ones like Let Canada In you won't know until PD check the eligibility when it's all over.

Yeah should of figured that was hoping maybe r1600 might know of anyone high in rankings that made it last year. But either way i know i will need at least another tenth to be close to making it imo.

I hope it keeps going. And I hope the experience translates into cool new and/or improved features in GT5 and beyond.

Hey R1600, curious about something: do you know how many of the players that made it to Florida last year used controllers? And did any of them make it over to Silverstone with you? Sorry if you've answered this before - it's a long thread.

No the top 15 are legit as long as there not criminals or drunk drivers. No offense to anyone if you are.

I'm not R1600, but I'm pretty sure 1 guy that used a controller made it, and he didn't make it to Silverstone.

Unfortunately for them (and for fortunately for us):

Official Rules
ELIGIBILITY AND RELEASE:
Winners who have previously advanced to the GT Academy National Final events are not eligible for GT Academy 2012.

EDIT: Also, the results from Round 3 of last years GTA are still posted on the GTA website:

I'm kinda glad I didn't give it my all last time. I feel I have a better shot now and I see what it takes to win it all. Plus I got the girl I was courting last academy and now she's even supportive. Long story short is I'm super dedicated this time.

Only Silverstone names I recognize are behind me in the rankings.

Correct.

So the remaining 16 people that did not make it to Silverstone are not eligible either? :odd:

I know, when I went to find that quote I was surprised by what I read because I thought it was just the 16 that couldn't move on. 16 makes more sense because they don't want the same people on the TV show (I'm assuming) but 32 doesn't make as much sense. Perhaps it's just typo or mis-communication.

I also noticed that the same Official rules have two different methods for breaking a tie:
http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/academy/2012/rules/
In the event of a tie, the contestant who achieves the fastest race time earliest will be deemed to have the higher score.
....
In the event of a tie, the contestant with the fastest race time with the fewest attempts will be deemed the winner.

I've hit 1.31.706. I know I have a lot more to gain on my time, just putting together the lap is getting frustrating. Might take a long break and see what I can do later. Really hope I can go to florida, never been there before. And be nice to meet alot of fellow drivers I know that are at the top.

The "TV" thing doesn't make sense to me regardless of the number. There are tons of TV competitions out there where people show up multiple times. If PD/Nissan are interested in getting the player with the best potential to win it makes no sense to exclude anyone from the pool. On the other hand, if it's all about marketing it might look somewhat undesirable to them, when their "participation" goes from 50k to 1M, but there's a big overlap in people who make it to the national final. There might be some other reasoning that could make sense to marketing MBAs but not to me ;)

My boss at work hopes that we fill the top 32 with ineligible people to make a pretty loud statement. ;)

That might make me a bit more motivated to lap again. :)

Well, I was going to put some time into GT Academy tonight... I guess I'll stick with a beer and some TV instead. It's pretty cool to see the familiar names up top again though.

I need help..highest i can muster with no (AS) is 1:32:5... How in the heck am i going to shave 500 or more seconds off... I'm using a DFGT

R1600Turbo, do you think you could answer or investigate the question I ask earlier:

Does anyone know how long they plan on keeping this program going? As in GT Academy in general (not this competition period).

If there is going to be a last GT Academy, I hope they announce that, "Hey, this is your last chance for the near future."
