They should be searching for the fastest drivers.

If you look at it from the perspective of "ratings" for the TV episodes of GT Academy...I think everyone should get another chance. God save the 16! God save the 16...uhmmm. Its been said before that shows bring back people for multiple seasons. Unfortunately, I believe they're searching for "new" talent every year which seems kind of pointless.

Wow, the 1:30's have been reached. That has to be a ridiculous lap.

Your .3 isn't to shaby either. I'm glad they put my time on the regional board I was kinda getting worried. Sucks it doesn't have a replay though.

In my opinion, that's horrible, just crappy. I will probably(ok definitely)never get in, just because I'm really not that good, my time in the 1:34's, but even if I pulled off a miracle lap, and got in somehow, I'd think, this is B.S., the fastest drivers are the fastest, if nobody can beat them boohoo, too bad so sad, lol, you know what I mean? I wish they made up that rule in NASCAR though, that way I wouldn't have had to watch Jimmy Johnson win all those times, that would have been nice.:)

That is sick:drool: I was happy to break a .5, now I gotta get some more time off later. Thats gotta be close to perfection if it isn't already. As for me, still fighting 1 or 2 bad turns I'm flopping, just gotta work on getting it all put together now.

Edit: Time to watch some top gear (UK). The Stig just pours out motivation hahahaha

Thanks, should have been better though, really wanted a .2. A7X is murdering us all

Not to worried though. Hotlapping is a completely different beast compared to racing. A lot of the stuff were doing to get a magic lap probably isn't the best idea to be trying in a race.

I spent 3 hours last night trying to improve my time over my first attempts from Monday.

I came in with a 1:35:8xx and slowly managed to bring it back to 1:34:0xx. Then the magic happened, just as I was about to quit for the night. I came out of turns 1 and 2 well and somehow found myself perfectly lined up for the S bends and got my foot to the floor earlier than ever. Managed to hit every apex for the rest of the lap and blasted past the finish line with a 1:33:7xx!

Feeling really pleased with myself, I checked the leader board to discover that I am still 2.5 seconds away from the quick guys. I hate you all!

......... How is Mav able to brake so late, barely stay at 100% brake pressure and still get the car stopped enough to rotate and exit?

I'm a noob still working to get in the 33's.........but I am seeing that brake pressure % plays a smaller role than I thought..........it's the relationship of brake pressure % to the gear you're in and the powerband location of that gear on corner entry that allows for the dramatic stopping distances and corner exit speeds we are seeing from the fastest drivers in 8-5.

Well, I am happy I broke into the 1:34s with a 1:34.825 last night. Definitely feel like I am reaching my talent limit, but man, I would love to crack the 33s. One can dream lol!

BTW, I couldn't believe the top time was a DS3 user up until Amo broke into the 30s today. Crazy stuff man, crazy indeed. Gives us DS3 users some hope haha!:sly:

I think I am done. I'm just glad I got into the 1:31s with a DS3 yesterday. This competition is much tougher than I thought. Good luck everyone!!! :)

I am not sure if it is allowed in GTA 2012 but in GT5 you could go around the track backwards for several laps then do the track properly with warmed up tires. Can it be done?

To answer your question, no, it can't be done. If you go backwards for any significant amount of time you get DQ'd.

But there's no reason to, you can warm up your tires going the correct way around the track.

And I'm pretty convinced at this point that warm tires don't make a difference.

"there's a mistake within the rules. As noted within the FAQ, the top 16 that made it to Silverstone Finals are not eligible. Those that made it to the National Finals last year, and didn't qualify for Silverstone, can apply for GT Academy 2012. We'll be making the change to rules shortly"

The way the question was brought up was extremely childish though, ending with "F- - - GT Academy". I'd suggest learning to calm down and ask questions like an adult, not just fly off the handle bashing the people that are giving you a chance at becoming a pro racing driver. Insert foot in mouth and move on with life though, at least the answer is now clear.

You can not drive for a long distance backwards with out the game stopping your run. I wasn't trying that, just regathering after a spin, and got a disqualification for driving backwards.

BTW... does anyone else feel like the car is 20 feet wide while driving in bumper/gauges view?

I disagree. ;)

Glad they fixed it.

I see the rules have been clarified now but the way I look at it is thus - they're looking for ultimately the fast guys in the real world. Fast in GT5 doesn't necessarily translate to fast in real life as we all know, but someone not quite as fast in GT5 could be much better in the real world.

What I'm getting at is the top drivers in GT5 probably aren't going to change much each year, so taking those same drivers to the regionals each time and them not being good enough for the real world is pointless. What they want to do is take the next fastest group in GT5 and see if they're better in the real world. So someone in 12th on GT5 last year that wasn't good enough in the real world wouldn't make it this time, instead someone who finished 40th last year gets in and turns out to be better in the real world than the guy in 12th on GT5.

Hope that makes sense.

It's probably just me, but from that view I'm having a hard time figuring out how wide the car is. It seems like the width I'm judging from the noise of the tyres hitting the curbs isn't the same as the width I'm judging from the car hitting cones. Either that or it's my wing mirrors that are catching the cones and making it seem wider. :grumpy:

you can stop as soon as you start and do donuts, doesn't seem to make a huge difference to me though...

Did you test it in some fashion?

I'm certainly not sure, it's just so much easier to restart after I botch something in the first 5 turns than to go all the way around, so I really want it to not make a difference :P

There's just always been a higher level of grip for me after a couple laps. Hard to explain other than just having no grip.

I agree with this whether it's based in reality or not, but also doing continuous laps is better to me instead of having to restart every time you hit a cone or whatever. I wish there was a better system than resetting the track every time and closer to GT5 with red lap times.

I agree very childish. Wonder how they'll be treated if they make it to nationals.

My current time was set with cold tires.

I was trying to judge if there's a difference by looking at my speed crossing the S/F line, and I've never seen a speed any faster on hot tires than I can get on cold tires.

Just watched the top world wide time... wow. He even has a tenth or two more to go (could have been closer to 2-3 apexes). He absolutely hauled the second corner though.

It seems the technique for the first uphill S is to upshift to 4th before you get to the middle of the S. Before people were shifting just as they got to the right hand side curbs.

What do you guys think the final cut off time will be? 1:31.4? .5?

Man its funny how things work sometimes. I'm hitting my marks on the spots I was having trouble with the other day and completely sucking in the sections I swore I had down. Very frustrated with myself right now and I'm sure that doesn't help.

Sounds to me like you've done all you can do. I recommend quitting now and just standing on your current time, I'm sure it'll be good enough.
