Its funny how a 1:31.7 gives us the feeling of being so much slower than a 1:31.2 but in reality its barely the blink of an eye lol but on the leaderboard it looks like eternity!

when you're rounding the last turn it feels like an eternity too lol

Getting really fustrated right now. I'm only at 1:33.879. I know I can do better but really don't know what my problem is. I always make the leaderboards on the TT's, but for some reason I'm sucking bad at this. I've watched replay after replay and still can't improve. I'm no alien, but I know I'm better than my time shows. It really baffles me how you guys got to be so good. Maybe its because I've only started playing seriously when this game came out so I really don't have all that much experience yet. Just going to have to put more time in I guess. Amazing times tho, you guys are really tearing it up. Ok, fustration vent over, lol. Any advice tho is welcomed. Peace.

Is there any advice for taking the S curve well? I am using DS3 and after chasing the ghost of the US leader, that I am losing about 80 percent of my time difference there. I feel like I have to pedal the car gingerly through. I tried going through in 4th, changing before turn 5, to no avail. I have been running very consistent 33.7-8s. Any suggestions for improvement?

Take s turn by taking the left a bit late, right after the clipping point then right in the middle of the s turn, take the right, try to hit the right clip point with throttle control. If you need to see how it's done in the real world, I suggest to see the whole video I posted here :

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=254017

From minute 5 onwards for in car footage, it's a video for the full course, but the 1st and 2nd straight, the s turn and the last 2 hairpin from the GTA east course are there, I am sure tackling those corners like the way Tsuchiya and Hattori did might be useful, cheers.

Same for me KB - I'm stuck at 1:33.485... which took me not a long time to get it. In my next few session i hardly was driving 1:33.8xx's... making me crazy and frustrated, coz i know i can get better....

Just spent the last ~30 minutes chasing my own ghost, and clocked off another..... .002 of a second.

I'm hopeless. :ouch:

Edit: 31.640

I think that's all I've got.

be happy mate. Im still a second and a half off your time. Found another 2 tenths, but a 33.5 is still a long way off. It seems that the key to this place is how late can you clip the apex and how you get the car to rotate. :grumpy:

Yeah that's it, I'm done. I'm just not smooth enough, hit those 🤬 turn 4 cones about 50 times. I think my brake pedal is sticking because I can't trail brake without the rear stepping out. Can't get on the gas soon enough without the rear stepping out, etc, etc, etc. I think my 2 year old DFGT has had enough.

Edit: Also, did anyone see the scrolling notice at the bottom that says they are aware of the times being wrong on some sheets and are fixing it?

Starting to have the same problem with my 6 year old DFP, so I just dropped 300 bucks on a G27, really hope it's worth it. I'm at 31.562 and know were I can improve, but I just can't do it with that wheel :grumpy:

P.S. Motherloving#$@&%#*@##$ CONES!!! I swear if I see a cone on the road in real life I'm going to run it over, just as revenge.

I think you are right, it wasn't my time. I was meant to wait a year so I could experience this competition with my BRO-mantic clubmate, TRC Scooty! Hope to reunite with u in Orlando man.

Wouldn't it be sweet if we went head to head in the final race at Silverstone? Fat chance I know but its still cool to think about. =)

Haha, see you know what's up! That's pretty much what I'm looking forward to. Last year, I didn't know any of the people personally. This year I can honestly say I know the majority up in the top 32 right now, and it'd be way sick to finally meet up with all these guys and finally put a face to everyone. That is IF it all works out. Dear god, let it work! ><

Edit: Nice time by the way, haha. xD

I'm sucking hard in this one. I spent 4 hours the other day but to no avail. I only managed to cut down 2 tenths from my time. Currently stuck at 1:32.xxx

I was maybe a car length by the last turn from Samurai's ghost, and I managed a good exit and put the power down perfectly. But just my luck, I hit the effin cones with my rear slightly stepping out! efa;kflejal;efjkaefjkk!

That would've been at least a 31.6-31.7? What's a car length anyway?

I swear using a ds3 is sometimes better than a wheel. 30mph around a light corner on the wheel and you either spin out or the car don't wanna turn. But at speed the slightest touch reacts perfect.

Makes a good run go to hell when the wheel won't do anything, even though you got it spun 360+ degrees.

I found with the wheel and in the bumper cam my times are about three tenths faster. This was after trying about 300 times in rear chase view(car seems to understeer more), cockpit view(slightly faster but harder to gauge where the passenger side ends--ie hit cones more), and finally hood cam(you can see more of the track but the back end tends to slip out quick). Only to realize, I should have trusted the experts and gone with bumper cam. It's the only view that shows enough movement(vertically) of the suspension in turns, for my money anyway. I finally golded it with a 1:35.869. I know that sounds like a horrible time as compared to the leaders I was ranked 3060th(US) but for me, it was quite an accomplishment.

Nice job on the gold! I am stuck at 32.5xx with time to gain in the S curve. I entered the event with no hopes of making the trip to Florida. I basically just wanted to see where i stacked up with everyone else. Now if i could just hit that S curve correctly.

I've been watching some replays of the top times, and I noticed a lot of people are using the grass as run off in turn 6 as they head under the bridge. And it's not like there car's just sliding off for a second, they purposely keep it out in the grass for nearly the whole straight before entering turn 7 (The flat out corner).

Now, if I remember correctly, last years GT Academy was held up due to people going off into the grass because it gave them an advantage. Now, putting your car on the grass in this years GT Academy is giving you an advantage as well. However, PD put cones where they didn't want people going off into the grass. So, either they don't care you're using the grass where they didn't specify you couldn't, or, they didn't think anyone would bother to use the grass there.

Could you post of video of a specific instance of this for record?

It's in the video thread a few posts down. Note that the fastest US time isn't doing this. Compared to the entire lap the gains are minimal at best. It's by no means a game changer, but they could have lined the exit with cones.

If gaining anything at all.

Thank you lol I was about to be pretty pissed if we had to do the something similar to cape ring where the car slides slightly uncontrollably in the grass for a second. That was probably the dumbest thing I have ever had to master in a sim.

I am in Canada and as everyone knows we can participate but we don't win anything. Is it possible for me to get my hands on an American account? Would I be disqualified?

You can win the cars and racing suit but if you plan on going to Orlando read this:"If Sponsors cannot verify a Round 8, Event 5 winning contestant’s age, residency, or other factors deemed essential by Sponsors for participation in the National Finals, or if a Round 8, Event 5 winning contestant is not available to attend the National Finals, Sponsors may select an alternate contestant beginning with the contestant with the next fastest race time from the leaderboard." from the official site http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/academy/2012/rules/

In other words, yes. You'd be disqualified as soon as they find out you're not a US resident.

Thanks for looking it up. Appreciated.

This sucks
Yeap. But there's still time for you to move down though ;)

It's all up to you ;)
Currently I'd be good for ~top10 time in my home-country that gets it's own GTA, but I don't think it's worth flying over there. ;)
