Is anyone else getting errors from Playstation Network? I signed out about minutes ago and now when I try to sign back in, it's telling me my password is no longer valid and I must change it; however, when I go to the Playstation Network website, it won't allow me to log in at all.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's back to normal now.

I've been feeling a bit discouraged lately, to the point where I don't feel like trying anymore! :(

I've been having trouble beating my 1:32.6xx time, I know where I can make up some time to possibly give me a low 1:32, but I just can't seem to put a good lap together.

I wish hitting the cones wouldn't make you restart and just let you continue on, because then at least you'll get an idea of what time you COULD have had, and give you the confidence to keep trying.

Anyone want to give me some encouraging words? :dopey:

What exactly does resident mean? You just have to live in the USA right? It doesn't matter if you're not US citizen?

In lawyerese it usually means that one has a right to stay here for an extended period of time, legally. So, foreign students would be residents, I guess, but people on short-term visas (or their equivalent, granted at the border) won't be.

I was in the same boat. For me I find it is best to build up to a good time. Try to start out slow then keep pushing a section. Then the next then the next. I try to do 10 lap stints with my 8-10 lap being my fastest. I just focus on being smooth and getting in the habit of taking the proper line for the first couple of laps then I start to push harder each lap towards the end.

I'll never forget when he told off that reporter, ex-racer himself, that accused him of passing illegally and causing wrecks(more than any other driver). God's Speed, brother.

Read the rules people! :P

You have to be a US legal resident.

I'm not too sure what constitutes a US legal resident because I was thinking along those students line :P If those who're in Canada want to get in, then just register as students and you'll be US resident in no time lol

Thank's guys. Glad I can count on the GTPlanet community to help me out!! 👍

I will keep the quotes in mind and @paskowitz I'll keep that in mind, that's a great tip! Thanks! :dopey:

^Are you a US resident? If not - you'll be disqualified.

Considering a passport is required for international travel(i.e--Silverstone) these are the requirements which must be met by a US legal resident and citizen to be eligible for this competition in the US.http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html

source:"Contestant must have a valid United States drivers license."

"A Prize winner will forfeit their Prize if that contestant is unable to travel during the designated time period, or if that contestant does not return the required Affidavit of Eligibility and Release within the required timeframe that verifies age and state of residency, and other compliance with these Contest rules." http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/academy/2012/rules/

Walk away for a bit. Refresh your mind then go back to it. I have found that by limiting myself to 1 hour stints then taking a break for awhile has helped me. Otherwise, you just get fustrated and start making stupid mistakes and it becomes fruitile to keep going without taking a break.

That will require admission to U.S. college/university for the summer term (too late probably) and getting a student visa (yes, for Canadians too). Too late for that I guess.

4 hours of driving last night and didn't improve one bit. Had about 4 laps that were within .1 of my personal best and several within .3 but couldn't seems to put a full lap together. That being said i'm still stuck at 1.32.497 :(

Keep at it. It's like hitting the wall. Hit it enough times and it falls (but there's another wall right behind it). I really hope I'm just one wall away from my target of getting into 31s before I go on vacation.

Well, it seems I've gotten to the point where I'm sure I've figured out the entire course, however my lap times would say otherwise as I cannot seem to break into the 1:31s. I always use a ghost of one of the top ten times as a reference point. For the first sector, I'm right with it, but from the turn 6 bridge onward, I slowly fall back, and I can't figure out where I'm loosing time. In the end, I'm posting 1:32.2/1:32:4s. It's quite irritating, but it just means there's room for improvement I suppose.

Good grief!
It usually takes me an hour before I start getting complete laps without a spin/cone. The longer I play the better my times get.

Also the "fruitile" typo sounds delicious :dopey:

Anyone have advice for corners 2-5 on 8-5? I've watched multiple replays but just can't seem to get the rhythm down. I know I can get down to the 1:31's if I can fix that section. DS3 user as well so if anyone could give a little extra advice for us controller users, I would greatly appreciate that as well.

I also have a question: Is it possible to turn down entering the competition if you make it into the top 32? The reason I ask is because I am using a DS3, as stated above, and I know if I were to go to Orlando (or wherever it is this year), I would get annihilated since I've only used a wheel for GT2. Plus, I wouldn't want to ruin my chances for next year. If there is a next year, that is... :/

I'm beginning to suspect that I may be turning my wheel too much in the corners and scrubbing speed. Gran Turismo has **** FFB, so it's impossible to feel when the front looses grip. Approximately how many degrees do you guys rotate the wheel in the last two corners and turn 6?

If i had to give you a rough estimate, I turned my wheel no more than 40 degrees on good laps. Have you tried adjusting the FFB?

I would think that not registering on the GTA website would do the trick.

Will do. I plan on hitting it hard this weekend. ;)

maybe i should try bumper cam, i just can't seem to get used to the way it rolls with the car, especially under heavy braking and turn-in

im near identical to your time, cant seem to ge a full decent lap in. that first sector is killing me.

Why would you do that? Only the 16 who advance to Silverstone are not eligible the next year.

My respects to a DS3 user backing out if it meant a regular wheel user got in that was sitting 33rd. Especially if that controller user has never ran a wheel, the guy 33rd with the wheel would most likely perform better in the finals.

Corner 2: A quick dab of the brakes right before you turn in. Come as close to the cones as possible as you coast around the corner (e.i. don't give it any gas) until you know you can put your foot back down (Or in your case, your index finger).

Corner 3: Same as corner 2. Once again, make sure to come as close to the cones as possible. Make sure when you exit turn three that your car is as far, or fairly far, to the left side of the track.

Corner 4: Before entering the forth corner, put the car into forth gear so as to avoid wheel spin. This will stabilize your car as you cut from the cones on the right to the cones on the left (AKA turn 5). If you have to, you can lift a little bit, but never fully let off the gas. If you take this corner well, you should be going about 106mph out of turn 5 by the time the rumble strip ends on the right side of the track.

^^that's where I am having trouble too, I'll give your tips a try and hopefully that will solve my problem. 👍

Thank's man, I'll try that as well, sometimes I'll be stubborn and go forever lol

How long should you take a break?

How long should you take a break?

Till you feel cleansed of the negative vibes that were holding you back. It's all in your head.

* * *

Is it just me or are most people improving every day? Every time I sit down for another session my previous best time becomes my average. At this rate I'll be in the #1 spot in three weeks.

I'm very happy the final test isn't a short challenge (less than a minute) and is on a track most GT5 players don't know well and isn't an Eifel (sp?) track. It's long enough to present desperate times on the leaderboard and short enough to do consistently.

Thank you PD/Nissan. Any complaining I would do about this competition would just be whining.
