I have spent countless hours doing this. A few nights I have fallen asleep in my playseat. I dare say there are few with my dedication to improve. I teally have no chance at advancing, but I'm not going down without a fight, lol. I only started seriously playing when the game game out unlike others who have many years of experience. Next year will be a different story hopefully. Those that know my story, know how much I am dedicated to this game and my undying determination to be the best.

I've also been dedicated, maybe not to your point but nonetheless this is the most I've time I've spent on GT5 lol

In fact, my hands/arms have cramped up a bit a little while ago so I had to take a break.

Also, I'm in the same boat as you...I started taking driving/racing seriously since the first GT Academy (that gave me an eye opener! lol) but I'm continuously improving, especially with those online TT's.

I probably won't make the cut this year but, like you said, I hope next year will be a different story. 👍

New top time set by a Frenchman. Much less sliding, more of a straight forward lap. What really puzzles me is how the top times seem to never induce the oversteer of this car. It is like they are right on the edge, but they never get there.

I also figured out that if you watch the replays from the 3rd person view (the whole car is visible), looking backwards (you see the front of the car) you can get a much better idea of the lines the driver is taking.

^^good tip, never thought of looking backwards hehe. 👍

BTW, how many of you "look at where you want to go, not where you are" that skill seems to help in some corners especially the last half.

I actually look right about where I am on entrance, and look ahead on exit. I've tried looking ahead at all times but with this car I just lose the feel too much.

I've been continuing to update my final cutoff prediction graph. After 4 days, you can definitely start to see a trend, but I'll let you all decide what you think it shows for yourselves. The link is in my signature.

@ chriz: For like the first 6 months of the game, all I did was race NASCAR cars at Daytona. I was pretty good, winning alot and got asked to join a team but before I could join, they said I had to be able to race on circuits with other cars. Well, long story short, when I couldn't compete on their level, they kinda snubbed me and said I'd never be anything more than a redneck oval racer. That is what really started the fire burning. Since then, I have fell in love with circuit racing and it has been the most fun I have had. To this day, I still don't talk to them guys because of the way they treated me, but you can guarantee they will eat their words one day.

Ran a lap of 8:40.xxx on one of my alt accounts to try to get a rough idea of the number of participants for 8-5.

Results...

USA - 11571
World - 108124

I'm sure a few others have done something similar so I can't say how accurate it is but it should give us a rough idea.

So with 974,480 people listed as taking part on the website that means only 11% of them stuck around to the end of it, roughly. Just shows how many casuals downloaded it because it was free. Be interesting to see a graph of how they dropped off through the rounds.

at the angle its currently traveling at, the cutoff would be close to 1:30.8. :nervous:

but thats at the assumption that we all still have the same amount of time to find as we did last week. i think the cutoff for the states should be closer to 1:31.2-3ish. most of us in the top 32 know how to run a 31.1 or lower, its just difficult to string it all together. i know personally i lost at least 2 tenths on the last corner, i just cant match my best on the first half of the track to keep up with my ghost till the last corner :grumpy:

I don't think the cutoff will be quite that low. Maybe more around 31.450. Just because the times have levied quite a bit, and not just in the US either. There will still be improvements, but probably nothing more than a tenth or two.

---------- Me -- Ti-tech85 (current world #1)
Sector 1 34.034 33.794
Sector 2 30.510 30.518
Sector 3 26.627 26.621

So yeah, I lose a whopping .240 to the top guy in the first sector alone! Im actually quicker than him in the rest of the lap by .002, lol. Im happy with my time of course, but it really bugs me that I cant figure out why I cant get through the first section of the course as well as these other guys.

EDIT: Looks like he took another .007 off his previous best. Those sector times probably aren't exactly accurate anymore.

I seen you improved. Nice job AJ. About to hop on and follow your ghost around.

Save your replays. Go to the main GT Academy screen and hit the replay button in the bottom row of buttons. Start the replay you want to watch and once it starts hit the Timing Monitor button.

^^^ For the last sector you have to do a little math because it doesnt post the final sector time in the live timing monitor.

crap, that means im losing almost 3 tenths in the first section alone! plus almost another tenth in the third section.. :ouch:

This graph should approach a limit, not progress linearly, so try to envision a curve that levels out the longer the competition goes on. I just updated it with todays drops in cutoff time.

Edit: Note that the flat part of the line is the current cutoff point projected forward to the June 24th.

Finally, finally, FINALLY strung a whole lap together :embarrassed:... but I still could have been faster in a couple of turns :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Oh well, I'm back in the top 5 at least.

 Me exactly.

I dropped my time down to a 1:32.2xx; I figured out how to go faster in the last half, just needed to induce more oversteer.

I'm hoping for a 1:31 by the time the competition is over. ;p

Thats my goal is a 1:31. I'm at a 1:33.006 right now so that may be asking a bit much out of my skill level but I'm giving it all I got.

Great job Benny! I just posted a 1:31.395 ... I was just about to get up and take a break and then all of a sudden the lap just never fell apart. I'm gonna take a break for a while. I hope that anything under 31.400 is safe. Don't know how much more I have in me. Great job to all the racers in the 31.1 - 31.2 range. You are freaks!

Thanks. I'd imagine you're safe, but don't take my word for it. I do hate when that happens though, you're about to quit, and you finally put a lap together. It's like, how can you stop now?

You've got my support man! 👍

I just messed up what could have been a high 1:31...I panicked towards the last half lol

Oh well, gonna keep trying. :dopey:
