Twitter has gone very quiet, I haven't had any tweets from anyone for over 6 hours, think there may be a problem. But if you go and look direct at GT Academy you can see what has been posted.

They did laps of the full circuit in GTRs earlier, and now they are doing single seaters on the Stowe circuit. Oliver Simon had a bit of an off and the session got red flagged but he is OK.

Irish Dan came third on the assault course. Jeroen had a really tough time of it though, I feel a bit mean for joking about laughing at them all now :guilty:

Nice! What type of single seaters?

@PrudentClaire... it is a problem with twitter, some of my friends had the same problem. I got the last update from twitter about 1.5 hours ago.

But if we pause to think for a minute it’ll become pretty clear that the best Gran Turismo player is not necessarily going to be the best racing driver out there!
With no disrespect, that much is obvious! There is absolutely no substitute for driving a real car on a track at race speeds. I'm sure that actual race drivers take to games like Gran Turismo like a duck takes to water - they have that in-depth knowledge and experience and really only need to get a feel for the controller/wheel setup. Doing it the other way around is a totally different ball game.

Don't get me wrong, I have the utmost respect for everybody who qualified at all in their region. However, the fact that most of the remaining 8 only qualified in the mid-high teens shows that being fastest in-game does not mean fastest (and fittest) on-track.

Just spoke to John, he said they were Formula Fords on cut slicks. There was no digital time clock so nobody knows how they did.

The assault course sounds like your worst nightmare. Most of the contestants were sick. If they fell behind they got their faces pushed in the mud and made to do extra press ups. At one point of their 2 hour non-stop ordeal, they had to carry each other through the mud.

The 10 that didn't make it through had a consolation whisky in the bar with Eddie Jordan, he had a long chat with them, sounds like there is a great team spirit going on and they are all being encouraged to stay involved and support each other.👍

that really sounds terrible... I feel so bad for jeroen right now...

Apparently the judges are deliberating who should make up the top four... I am very nervous and crossing my fingers

I can't believe they are only picking four. In my opinion anyone still standing at the end of today is a total hero and deserves to go through

I have my fingers crossed for you too.

I guess they will keep the results hidden again until tomorrow so that the contestants can contact their family and friends themselves...

I hope I'll hear something soon but then again, Jeroen usually doesn't call until around 11 english time... which is still 2.5 hours away...

edit: new photo's are available from both the assault course, the race in the nissans and the race in the single seaters :D

Decisions decisions. 💡

Eeny meeny miny mo.

Jeroen just called :)

The assault course was even worse than we can imagine, especially for the final 8... all of them have been vomitting, pushing themselves to the very limits of what both body and mind could take. Jeroen came in 5th I think...

Some unofficial results?: The French guy, The Spanish guy, one of the Italians and the Irish guy all made it through.

Jeroen and Dan Collins were kept apart from the rest and had to sit an additional psychological test...so I guess that's what took them 2.5 hours to deliberate on who of them would be the last to be eliminated. In the end it was Jeroen.

Jeroen is disappointed, but at the same time also a little relieved. I am very much relieved to have him back on Wednesday, though I would really have supported him if he had made it to the final 4.

these are the final four: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gtacademy2010/4396471252/

I am sorry, I don't know the names of the other contestants and which of the Italians made it as Jeroen didn't mention it, but I guess the official results will come in tomorrow.

Yes, we got a final four thread now.

Hard luck to Jeroen. I didn't get much time with him, due to being split into two groups, but as with every other driver there, what time I did get was fun 👍

Ultimately he's one of the best in his country, in Europe, in the world at what he does in his spare time and he has every right to be damned proud of what he's achieved.

Sorry to hear that Jeroen didn't make it, sounds like it was close and he should be incredibly proud for getting this far. At least you get him home now, he might need a bit of TLC to put him back together again after that assault course!

Jordan sounds like the current favourite. But Dan could be a dark horse - he hasn't got much experience but he is learning and improving really fast.

They have another 6.30am start tomorrow - more fitness stuff? :scared:

Apparently our posts crossed each other :)

No worries, I was about to post the link here anyway, and your post gave me the perfect opportunity to do so. 👍

It's a shame that Jeroen didn't make it further, but you must be proud of him regardless. 👍 👍 👍

With no disrespect, that much is obvious!

It is, even more so if you take it out of context!

People were acting somewhat surprised that the last 8 were far from being the fastest in their countries and that’s why I felt a need to state the obvious – sort of what you did again!

But if you look at the time (TT), the difference in time is quite negligible. In the UK Top 20 for example, it's less than a 1 second (combined time) between the guy in first and the 20th guy. So it's not that obvious, really.

Highlights day two. Not sure which thread it should go in.

Good enough place as any.

Thanks for posting. I'll place it on the first post later. 👍

It's good to see that they are now highlighting PSN Id's. 👍 It'll be even better if they could also use them for any future national finals. 👍

Thanks for the video, Carbonfibre!

Felipe Barreto really did well on day 2; pitty he didn't get to the last four on day 3!

At least someone I met in real life made it to the finals :) Great guy, and much faster than me.

'I apologised to the guy... what's his name?'
Not the best response you can give, that's for sure.

he was doing really well... leading go-karts and made the best 370z time on 2nd day... had everything to pass... how strange!?..

Which would mean that neither of the two fastest in the 370z made it to the final four. It does highlight the point though that talent alone isn't enough, you have to have the drive to succeed against whatever odds are thrown your way.

There have been plenty of cases where this happens at the highest level. Some get past it some don't. By all accounts Lance Armstrong was super gifted from day one but it wasn't until after his cancer that he developed the determination to succeed and started his incredible winning streak.

I feel bad for Dan as he clearly had the talent but it should be obvious by now that they want guys who would pull themselves through barbed-wire fences to get a chance to race professionally and he has to decide if he really wants it that much.

Nice video indeed...

I think we could start calling D.Holland the "eyebrow" .....lol.

Hehe funny. But still, I feel for Dan "the eyebrow" Holland. I have an old back injury that that flares up too every now and again. It isn't fun. I think if that happens in these trials, then there is no way he would last a season.

And about forgetting that guys name, I'm also useless at remembering names and also get nervous in front of a camera. But that said, you gotta be able to do all these things under pressure to win. Good effort to everyone though, it looked like quite an experience. Great video too, to the guy that posted that.... whats his name!:sly:
