I'm just wondering what wasn't right with the 2%, just curious that's all.

Some of the straight-line grass driving at the beginning is what dropped it down, but I'm not going to flag the video for that. The rest of the lap was spot-on man.

Your YouTube video is about 98% how it should be done.

If he gets first with that lap, shouldn't it be 100% of how it should be done?

The competition isn't "Who is the best racer in a real life car on a real life track" It's who can set the best time on GT5 with car "x" on track "y".

Sure it's not realistic that someone would drive like that on a track throughout a race, but that isn't what wins the competition.

If you think that its wrong to cut corners within the rules on a game to win an oppurtunity to drive for a real team, then I guess you have some stronger morals than most. I would not have any guilt or regrets turning in a lap like that on a game if it got me to my dream of racing for a real team.

I am not attacking you personally, I just don't see why everyone is so hard on the leaders. After all, that is why they are the leaders. They found something that everyone else hasn't and perfected it. But now that everyone knows about it, its fair game to either duplicate their moves, or find a new line of your own that I'm sure someone else will say is also cheating.

With regards to that replay, 2 wheels were on the rumble strip, so i would be happy with that. If that was submitted to the wrs it would be fine. Not pretty, but effective.

With regards to the picture on the first post, that looks not ok.

it was pretty deep about 40 posts ago lol

lol, I've been reading all day hear at work. This is my .02 cents. If the game allows it then by all means its fair game. I've only done tskuba so far and could only must a 1.05.5 but best believe when i hit the other tracks i'm gonna do whatever necesarry to be up top with the big dogs. Wether that be using a little extra run off area than some deem exceptable or chopping a corner down. It is what it is. IMO a lap validation sytem similar to forza's would be better, even though it was quirky at times.

The point of the competition is to get yourself into a real race car, where corner cutting and off track excursions would be frowned upon.

I agree 100% with this post.

I understand that but to get to that point, you first have to win this competition, and I'm just saying that if they think its good enough to win you a spot on a real team, then why wouldn't I try to do whatever will get me to that point?

Like Alex Zanardi's pass of Bryan Herta on the last lap at Laguna Seca in 1996?

I was at that race and I can tell you that the place went mad when Alex pulled that off. I don't remember anybody shouting "CHEATER" afterwards.

Another one I'm sure we all remember is Kimi around the outside of turn 1 at Spa, 2 years ago. And though there were some grumblings after the fact, the win stood.

I like what Factory said, PD is the governing body, they make the rules. Not us. And it's the same for everyone. It's the nature of racing to push the limits. If a driver or team find extra Time, you can bet that others will not be far behind.

We're just looking at it differently and I don't believe any of us are going to come to a mutual agreement. Looks like we're going to have to just agree to disagree.

i was watching at home and we went nuts and thought it was great. i thought i remember hearing he had actually practiced driving through the corkscrew off track just for that situation.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there!

Just kidding, you're right.

It was widely believed for a long Time, over two decades actually, that performing a lobotomy was the proper procedure to treat certain "psychiatric abnormalities"/mental disorders...in many cases, the procedure was done because of orders, not patient desire.

Compliments of gifted individuals seeing past irrational beliefs, it was later discovered that these mental disorders were better addressed for the long term with focused medical/psychiatric treatment including helping the affected individual understand their condition and work past it...rather than the surgical (irreversible) severance of nerve fibers in the brain.

This is just one example illustrating that beliefs are essential to our existence, but ideas and open minds are equally essential to our survival...and if an individual or group gets so wrapped up in their beliefs they stop being open to different ideas and stop evolving as the universe continues to evolve around them. Misguided beliefs usually end in conflict, open minds and new ideas create progress.

Back on topic, I am from the school of thought that this comp should indeed be structured from the ground up around generally accepted real life racing restrictions & guidelines, especially considering the grand prize; however, even with real life rewards, this is still a comp based around a video game, and it is ignorant to think that the majority of competitors will handle it any differently than any other video game based comps. So, my opinion is if it is allowed within the rules, I cannot personally fault or frown upon any competitor for maximizing their advantages to the fullest.

As we all know, competition can bring out the very best and the very worst in human beings, because we all want to win...no matter what we say, we all know the truth inside. When we choose to enter any competitive arena, it is up to each individual to know the rules and compete within them, not to be concerned about how other competitors' beliefs should impact the rules.

On a last note to ponder...if a racing team's driver decides to lose 35lbs to gain a marginal overall power-to-weight ratio advantage and sees success, would other teams be frowned upon for asking or even requiring their drivers to follow suit or be replaced, as it is 100% within the rules?

Alex was an amazing driver and is an amazing person. His crash still haunts me. It's a shame he didn't get the F1 breaks he needed. One of my all-Time favs.

I got a 46.5 but I cheated big time. Handbrake where ever I wanted and cutting track as much as possible.

There is still time left and I plan on cutting even more of the track and getting even better with the HB to go faster!

All of you that don't like it can..... complain to sony =)

That might make you faster on the contest, possibly get you disqualified, and in no way shows your actual driving skills. But do as you wish.

I know I suck, I have no problems with that.

Now if you do lose this competition to me, you will be losing to a person that sucks?

I CAN'T WAIT TO CUT CORNERS AND USE THE E-BRAKE IN A REAL CAR, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'm going to drift SO GOOD in the real car. Gonna clutch dump and ebrake till the ass is so out the judges will frigin LOVE ME

Congrats man, there is nothing wrong with using all the tools in your shed is there?

Guys this bantering back n forth is a total crack up, did you ever think that they might have left those holes open for a reason? Hummm? It’s like a treasure hunt, if you don’t find the prize by stumbling on to it you go looking for it by curiosity. I can guarantee that doing a lawn job and then dropping on to asphalt lit and trying to lag the car in a position so that it is in the right spot with out hitting the Fn barrier on the right is a skill the likes of which only someone who can drive the wheels off a race car will ever know. I’m not talking the proper British style but the Rum Runner style.

If you can go into a corner knowing that if you run of the track on the outside, there is a plan B to save your bacon, then I’m all good w/ that. I would never use those lines to pass someone in a race because “It’s just not cricket luv” but using lines that are, just hung out “W F O”, well then lets bring it on. I drive a car like I used to ride my dirt bike and I loved running the outside wide open and blowing past all the slow squids that just couldn’t find those unconventional lines that allowed you to blast the biggest roster tails as you wheelied past the compo.

I believe it's more like they left them there because they didn't think about people using them. Now that people are, I hope they do something about it.

If I was going to sponsor a driver and had my choice between someone who was creative as well as fast and someone who was equally as fast but never made those calculated gambles that would break the compos spirit when they are passing them in a spot that no one would ever think of making a pass there, I would pick the creative driver. Can you say Kyle Bush?
