To answer your question about why they don't delay and to the others who are saying the same thing. They don't have the time. The whole GT academy is on a very sensitive time-line. They can't delay this week because the Nationals needs to happen at a specific time so that they can have the time to narrow down the one winner. The winner has to spend about 7 months (per the rules) getting their racing licenses so that they can partake in the race that they earned a spot in. Pushing back the GT academy could disrupt the whole tournament. That is the reason they simply can't add time to the early rounds, they just don't have the time to give.

Now that being said, they have definitely shown poor planning considering they have done this before. First, they should have known every track that they were going to have us run along with the cars being set up to be a more neutral than they are. Every single Nissan we've driven has had wretched understeer. Plus, they should have tested all the tracks they planned on having us race on. It is human nature to find the quickest way around the track... I don't condone what the cheaters did as that pissed me off considerably, but it shouldn't have even come to that. The tracks should have been set up like the licenses, front or rear wheels off= failed lap. Not that difficult considering they've done it for a decade. It shows poor planning simple as that. It still boils down to all their fault mind you. They put themselves between a rock and a hard place and we are the ones that have to pay the price.. unfortunately.

This will be a rough weekend for all of us trying to make the cut. Best of luck to those trying to make the top 16 to move on.

But will you say the same thing if they take another week off between rounds?

Let's say they don't, how about taking two days from the next round and using them for this one.

My guess is, there is another week off and they should let us use it.

This is such a sham.....I spent all night working on my time, 23rd in NE with .5 to go. I had to fly to Cali today and won't be home till 10pm Sunday night which I figured would be enough for a last effort........that possibility has gone out the window.

What really pisses me off is that I'm very quick at Rome, but don't know Madrid.

I realize the argument "this tests your ability to deal with adverse situations" but it doesn't apply here. Why? Because not all of us can put in the time this weekend. If I were home, I would suck it up and put my times in......but I have a life/work and put aside the first half of this week knowing I would be gone the last three days. Now I have no chance at all.

Further, if they have another week off between rounds......then shame on them for not extending the time to accommodate their screw ups.

For shame.....screwing over those of us who can't even touch a console in the next three days.
Honestly, you'll probably be saving yourself a ton of future frustration by just forgetting about this "competition". And maybe if everyone boycotts the reality show and they lose money, they'll try harder next time.

If by Cali you mean San Francisco and you need a Taxi, let me know.:) Or if you have Time off while your here I'll let you use my setup.

Actually YES they could have delayed it until next week since next week was supposed to be an off week anyway.

Absolutely. And I totally agree with all three of your points. Trust me I'm on your guys side here. Three of my team mates aren't very happy right now I'm sure. And I'm by no means saying roll over and play dead. Try to get the dead line pushed back. Insist that replays are reviewed and DQ Times with four offs. I just wanted to point out that these kinds of adverse situations will test your character. Be mad. Be furious. Just use that red mist to push yourself to the top. (again) lol. Sorry I know that's not very funny.

I think i've said too much. This is not my fight. Just trying to add a little motivation to the mix. But I see now I'm being more of a busy body.

Best of Luck to you all.
Go TRC!
Appreciate the motivation. I'm not sure if I will try again, though, and it's not because of a lack of motivation.

I injured both my knees two weeks ago and have only played in limited sessions to let them heal properly. Unfortunately, it's been very slow and I'm afraid it may be something more serious so I'll be seeing a doctor soon.

I'll do a limited stint Saturday and then hang it up. I will say I'll be happy to provide some help tomorrow for anyone that may need it. :)

Sounds like a right farce this does.

As i've been hotlapping on numerous games for many years the fault lies directly with PD and in my opinion it just shows how naive they are but also behind the times which is probably why GT5 suffers from a lack of leaderboards.

I've seen it all ranging from wallbashing on PGR3 to Forza 2 when they used to get their friends to bash into the back of their car so they start the lap faster. Now whilst I detest any form of cheating its a fact of life that some gamers will try anything to get to the top of the leaderboards. Now its upto the developer to take this into account and develop a penalty system that prevents this from happening. Clearly PD didn't do this which is why this GT academy is a farce. Someone said lets hope PD learn from this but if I was honest this used to happen on GT5P. You only have to look at the replays on Daytona Road to witness the extreme corner cutting.

In my case - thank frickin god! :dopey: I was about to have to put in a serious effort this weekend to learn the previous tracks (~7 miles worth the race track with very few markers) and make it into the hotly contested top 16 ...now this has relieved all of that pressure :sly: I will say that I definitely feel for those who put in such great times only to have them squashed once again, due to the organizers seemingly complete lack of knowledge when it comes to this game. And PD ought to take account for this crap to, as its just another aspect of the game that is completely inconsistent, unrealistic, and completely annoying. And lastly - WTF, are they crazy by basically only giving the competitors 2-3 days to do these new TT's??? I'd feel terribly sorry for anyone who put in a serious effort earlier in the week (say with a time that would undoubtedly get them to
Round 3) and didn't hear about this late breaking news, as they had other things to attend to over the weekend and weren't expecting yet another BS twist to this Round. Simply Amazing...

On another note, you really have to question the professionalism/knowledge of the organizers. I definitely appreciate this competition/opportunity immensely, but c'mon, things need to be thought through with a bit (more like, a lot) more thoroughness in the future.

YEah, sorry guys....I had to work quite a bit this week and didn't get a chance to even look at Indy or Eifel so I called in some friends at Sony and had them change both.....my bad.

honestly though, I ran Toscana a bit, I didn't see any problem w/ that track? strange that they changed it.

I actually really like that everyone has less time to run laps, as it takes more adaptation from everyone and it takes the advantage away from the ppl who can play this game every day. Hell, In RL Formula3 there is a testing banned and you only get 30mins-1hr of tracktime before you qualy and race, you have to be super adaptive, so we are still getting WAY more tracktime then what you'd find in RL. Be even better if it was on tracks that none of us knew though.

Its the same for everyone at least, The only thing that sux is for the people who work weekend jobs and could only post a time mon-thurs. I feel bad for them.

Good Luck everyone!

Lucky you procrastinator!

Nah, I fully expect you to be near the top no matter how much time there is. The whole time I was thinking "Time-Attack's going to knock me down a spot, so have to account for that". :dopey:

Yeah... it sucks. Basically completely wasted the 4-5 hours a night the last four days that I worked on those tracks.

SERIOUSLY...and my luck is never this good. So what a pleasant surprise! :sly:  GTA was running across my mind at work today, and I was thinking about how a few little twist of fates here and there were going to be massive setbacks in my chances of advancing. Those setbacks being: the organizers removing Indy two days into Round 2, which completely screwed up the game plan I had come up with on Monday. Then I had come down with a pretty bad cold (I haven't gotten sick in ~ 2 years ) midweek that wasn't going to help me one bit.

Hehe...well of course at the end of the day I was still pretty confident that if I put my head down and put forth my maximum effort and will power, I would likely pull through by the deadline. But no question, I was definitely feeling the pressure with the task that laid in front of me  Fortunately learning new cars (not so much, new tracks) is usually a peice of cake for me so I won't be sweating these latest TT's much at all.

Yeah... it sucks. Basically completely wasted the 4-5 hours a night the last four days that I worked on those tracks.

That's terrible. Hopefully we won't encounter anymore of this BS...because this is craziness. Not to mention how different and settled the PAL GT Academy was compared to ours. Their 1st round entailed the same track with two different cars and ~ 5 weeks to complete it IIRC. Then the next round was simply heads up racing where the top 2 guys from each region advanced to the actual boot camp. In our case, we are stuck with a crazy amount of TT's, long & completely forgein tracks, 2 days to complete 2 TT's with no notice in advance , etc. :ill: This is becoming too much

Leave it to us Americans to screw it up. Out of all the GT Academies, we are the first to 🤬 it up. Not to mention all the publicity that "the Americans kept cheating." Probably our first and last GT Academy. Maybe they will give it to the Canadians or South Americans next time, we definitely don't deserve it. We as in the entire country because certain jackholes just have to abuse the contest and ruin it for everyone.

I think you are right. Too much hassle for SCEA and all the sponsors and not good PR for anyone, including ourselves to the rest of the world in the scope of motorsports and any contest with the GT franchise.

It's a shame if this is the case, but we did it to ourselves, though personally I made it to Round 2 without needing such dirty tactics.

If Suzuka and Nurburgring aren't used in round 3 there is something really wrong with the intellect of whoever chooses the tracks. GT5 has real world tracks that can't be exploited, and settings to minimize off-roading in the other tracks, yet neither of those options were used. Then we get stuck with 2 really weird, stupid one could say, fictional city tracks. I can't believe I looked forward to this failure for such a long time.:ouch: At least I got a free DFGT, and possibly a copy of the game I am currently playing-- my brother might get a pretty sweet Christmas this year...

This is basically me when I woke up today and read my E-mail.

Hopefully the 3rd round will use Nurburg or some track with some class, if not I'll just keep playing TDU2. What if they use Cape Ring for the 3rd round like they used Rome now.

I honestly think The Ring is the perfect track for this competition. It exposes all the weaknesses of a car. I never realized how much the Ford GT understeered until I took it out on The Ring. I got a 7:42 with a M3 CSL and a 7:39 with the GT (not even great times). Cars like the LFA and GTR absolutely sing on The Ring. While others like the Z06 seem to be very upset by most corners.

Nordschleife with the GTR Spec-V. Thats it. Take away ghosts and only let us watch from the replay view and bam. You will sort the men for the boys real fast. Top times will be in the 7min, low teens everyone else will struggle to break 7:20. A great lap can be ruined by a single mistake and there are 154 chance to make a mistake. People who understand thinking 2, 3, 5 corners ahead will do well. People who think they can hop curbs will be punished by an unstable car and a slower time as a result.

In fact the track should have stayed the same this whole time and they should have just changed the car. Increasing the difficulty each time. Start off with the 370z with comfort softs on the Nordschleife. Then go to the GTR Spec-V with sports hard again on the Nordschleife but at night. Then finally go for the GTR GT500 on with inters on the 24hr circuit at night in the rain. I think that would be very humbling for a lot of people.

This will be round 3 imo

Nice vid Hunk,

---------------------------------------------------------------------

The controversy currently surrounding the GT Academy rounds fits in rather well with some research im doing in to cheating and exploits in videogames. Id very much like the people affected by whats going on in GT academy the last few days to spare 5 mins to fill out this 11 question survey. Many thanks:)

Hunk, I saw that video when I checked out the TRC website a while back - very impressive.

Given that round 3 is still 2 tracks and only a week long, I doubt they will use the full 'ring because whatever other track they choose would be pointless...UNLESS they did the GT-R Academy version on Nordschleife and some race car (tuned 370z) on the 24h configuration... Combined lap times would be 12 minutes+. That would be crazy...

A 7:13 is out of this world...I would love to see that! At the time I made the vid I heard the best was a 7:15 by the Germans. I'd like to think I could do a 7:15 now with everything I've learned about the game.

I´m sure he can still do better, that was not a real challenge.
He did first the 7:14, uploaded the replay, and later he did the 7:13.
I can ask him, maybe he will upload the other one too. ;)

Yes the Nürb. So long track, you can lose many time, but also you can gain a lot.

And he did one lap with SKID, = 7:10,xxx

i love being a procrastinator. what a joke this comp is....

im sorry to say it but you guys see why mowing the lawn is BAD? i mean all the people that started to do it on cape are really to blame for this. what did people expect? guys came on, downloaded a ghost and saw the top guys all mowing the lawn. these people NEVER come on the forums, they just see the top guys "cheating", and went on to the next round doin what they saw in the first round. "do what you gotta do" kinda mentality. and now everyone wants to get mad about it. HAHAHAHAaaa

regardless if you think mowing is cheating, or cutting corners is cheating, you all made this competion as lame as it is, well, started it out like that anyway.....yes i know that the same people would come out on top if they didnt mow, YES I KNOW THIS, and YES i did do the pit lane strategy, i wanted top 10. but when i saw that we had to do this to get there i KNEW this comp was gonna be stupid. i waited till the last day to put in times there hoping they were gonna tell us we had to stay on the track, but NOPE, guess i didnt mow enough grass last summer.

you can all say cutting on indy is different than mowing on cape, but deep down inside you know thats BS.

think about it.........

I really like this track combo though, Rome was in Rd.1 and I have it by memory so it's just a matter of practice ...Madrid, was a real b*tch at first, but after doing it for a while I'm getting used to it.

Thought about it, cutting out two corners of a track still is different than using extra run off out of a turn...

I agree with all of this 👍 except I didn't stoop to cheating in round one, instead I simply quit the comp. It is amusing to me that all are complaining about the indy cut when I bet plenty cut cape ring
