This isn't directed at anyone, so don't take it personally!

but I see a trend developing in our society which is worying, it's not just an US phenomenon.. it's global! and the events here highlight it.

  • Why is it always someone else's fault! (no personal accountability or responsibility it was PD or Sony's fault for not preventing me doing this!!) isn't that the same as saying smith and western are to blame for allowing us to shoot folks with guns.. they should make them safe!
  • Why do folks take an attitude of everyone else would cheat if they were in a position to do so, therefore justifying there actions?
  • Why do some think that all's fair in a competition it's only about winning...
  • Others would have taken advantage of my cunning shortcut were they as smart as me!
imo in a competitive sport, winning is nothing if it's without honour and fair play.
How can any individual who takes part in this online sport, or any sport be happy with themselves by winning by cheating or foul play..

Where's the sense of achievement or competition when others are playing to different rules or constraints!

do these folks who exploit the game engine feel it show's they are smarter than the others?

In my book it highlights a lowering of moral standards where we are happy to ignore right or wrong in pursuit of our own gain..

This will ultimately destroy the very backbone of civilised society...

now please excuse this interruption whilst I climb down off my soapbox and get back in the cockpit..

Good luck to all you fair and honest racers still in this competition may the best person win. 👍

EXCELLENT POST!! I totally agree with you Dude .. :)

I'm sure, given the opportunity, Europeans, Aussies, Asians, Russians, Canadians, Mexicans, Penguins and any other demographic would produce scores of cheaters. You just don't put on a contest without proper rules and ENFORCEMENT.

Shame on PD, more so than any group of people who happen to share a country.

👍 This

I don't get it. In GT5P you could barely get off the track without getting a penalty. If you rubbed a wall for more than a split second there was a penalty. Now you can drive from one side to another of a 180degree hairpin across the infield and no penalty is triggered. The blame for this rests entirely with PD. Man are they struggling lately. WTH were they doing for the last 5 years? Other than great physics they can't seem to get anything right lately.

Everyone is talking about "cheaters", but cheating requires that rules have been broken. Was it stated that you can't drive through grass or bump into walls?

Do you PD-defenders have any CLUE how TRIVIAL it would be to code proper penalties for the game? You could give someone in middle-school the physics engine that's already calculating the forces on all 4 tires and from impacts to the body of the car, and they could detect 4 tires in grass or wall impacts. This is ALL on PD for not clearly stating rules and/or programming them.

And to cenk/anti-US people: You're incredibly ignorant to think this has anything to do with our country.

First let me say I feel for you guys. I really do. This really sux. But at the risk of getting my butt kicked let me play devils advocate. Although I'm sure it was not intended, what's being tested right now is your ability to deal with adversity. Without question it's an unfair situation but it's also a test of your character. You either get mad or you get on with it. Imagine you're the number three driver for an F1 team and one of their drivers is out for the weekend at a track you've never seen. Now it's your job to get in the car and get a result. What do you do? Do you say "sorry boss I need more Time to learn the track" Or do you get in the car and show them you're the guy they should of put in the car in the first place? All I'm saying is don't waste energy on stuff you can't control. Use it to take care of business.

My apologies to any I may of offended or upset.

May The Fast Be With You.

You win the thread. This post should be quoted over and over again till the thread gets locked. 👍

Do you have any idea that the penalties have worked properly before? Indy was the course for GT Academy last year, and it had proper penalties that invalidated laps.

It seems like kind of a poor analogy considering how long PD has been making GT games and how obvious this issue was from the get go...

It's less like the number 1 driver getting sick and dropping out and more like your racing team ALWAYS sends that drivers bus the same route that always has traffic and always has a bridge washed out at this time of year and did it AGAIN and your career hinges on how well you do on your next race...

So essentially your chances of progress are being screwed by someone who's job it is to do this one thing and they have continually screwed it up for years and have just screwed it up again the same way when it counts big for you...

On an individual basis I agree with you. However in any competition it is up to those running it to set and enforce the rules.

Here's some examples.

Scenario A - Hockey

Player A has the puck and is tripped by player B on opposition. Player B takes the puck and scores a goal. Would most fans be upset with player B for cheating or upset with the referee for missing the call?

Scenario B - Football

Player A is running a pass route. Player B from the opposition knocks him over and intercepts the pass. Are fans going to be most upset with Player B or with the referee for missing the call

I could go on, but I think I've made my point. The reason we have rules and enforce them is because there will always be someone who will try to cheat and gain an advantage. It is unfair to all the other participants to not have something in place to prevent that. PD should have known better (The penalties they had in place in GT5P show that they know how to prevent cheating). For some reason they seemed to be caught totally off guard by it this time, and there really isn't any excuse that doesn't make them look incompetent.

Woot, once again the tracks get reset. How many times will Sony do this to us before it's too late. GT Academy or Black Ops Double Xp Weekend shrug haha.

haha what a 🤬 mess. I dont think I'm fast enough to particpate in the next round
but as a participant of this academy, I dont think it could have been run much worse. Whats going to happen if people start wall bouncing @ rome like they did in RD1? Is sony going to re-wipe again? Sony wipe my arse while you're at it

We are not PD defenders or anti US.

Thanks for the best example today: cheating requires that rules have been broken

so when there is no rules, you can go 4wheelsOFF, right ?

^^^^^ this is what the problem is. You and guys like you taking advantage of Unspoken rules.

and still not getting it..

I'm out, gotta go do some runs...

You just contradicted yourself like 4 times. Wow. :dunce:

Well put gslooney.

I think it mainly comes down to our ethics, which clearly we all do not agree on. Even one of the "cheaters" comments on facebook said "My ethics win." We all have different opinions which should be respected. I agree with cenk of viewing this whole event from outside the box, unbiased. And to me that how it would appear. And another point to the "followers" of the cheaters, who say eveyone else was doing it. If they were all jumping off a bridge, would you do it to?

The bottom line is, if this is a competition to be a race car driver, it certainly is not "simulating" a racing environment. Like many are saying, it should have been defined in the rules. But hey, who would of thought some people think cutting 2 hair pins is perfectly legal in the real world.

Yeah after my initial hissy fit i sat down and thought about it and came to the same conclusion. :)

People on the GT academy facebook are talking about people using exploits on madrid. when i was on earlier, the top time was a clean run. Can anyone confirm/deny? I am not home at the moment.

thanks.

No offense taken at all. It's a good way to think about it.

I believe for many people, including myself, they are frustrated because:
1. This is the second time they have changed the car/track combo on us this week.
2. They did not extend the time to compensate which is very unfair for those that only had the time early in the week to run laps.
3. The issues that led to the changes were easily foreseeable and could had been corrected before the competition, not during, with properly designed courses or some type of penalty system.

In any case, mistakes are bound to happen. I just hope they learn from it and it leads to changes for the better for both future Academies and the overall game itself.

Sucks for the people that has put in time to get the top times. I know if I was trying ont hose tracks and had my times erased I'd be super PO'ed.

Tell me about it. I was on Eifel until 1am and had a pretty good time that i was happy with.

Wow, they reset the times again, without extending the dates to run it. They understand the time it takes to put a time to be in the top. This weekend I will be hard for me to play with all the stuff is going on my plan was to till play till thursday and whatever time I got was the time I would stick with, but now I have no time and no way of getting back to my house till monday. This is a poor move by the poeple at GT Academy. I hope they decide to extend the time.

To the few who are wanting to equate this cheating with America. Grow up. Guess what, I bet your country ain't perfect either. I'll leave that subject at that.

Seeing this happen, it really kind of makes me happy they haven't rolled out global leaderboards yet for the game. It's been killing the game for me not having any leaderboards. But, if the anit-cheating measures taken by PD are no better than this, it's good they're not there, because they'd just be one huge massive joke at this point.

God I sure hope not. I think I'm going to wait until Sunday to run times...

thank you. my sentiments exactly. 👍

I've spent a few minutes at Madrid and I had no idea the other track was different also!

I placed 136th in Round 1, sweet huh!?

I would like to play with the ppls in Round 2. If I buy these 2 cars the SKYLINE GT-R V・spec II Nür (R34) and XANAVI NISMO Z (SUPER GT) and do the Time Trail in Arcade with the selected tracks, will that make for the same race as in Round 2 so I can compare my times?

What are the tire tire types for these races?

Thanks,

Absolutely. And I totally agree with all three of your points. Trust me I'm on your guys side here. Three of my team mates aren't very happy right now I'm sure. And I'm by no means saying roll over and play dead. Try to get the dead line pushed back. Insist that replays are reviewed and DQ Times with four offs. I just wanted to point out that these kinds of adverse situations will test your character. Be mad. Be furious. Just use that red mist to push yourself to the top. (again) lol. Sorry I know that's not very funny.

I think i've said too much. This is not my fight. Just trying to add a little motivation to the mix. But I see now I'm being more of a busy body.

Best of Luck to you all.
Go TRC!

This is such a sham.....I spent all night working on my time, 23rd in NE with .5 to go. I had to fly to Cali today and won't be home till 10pm Sunday night which I figured would be enough for a last effort........that possibility has gone out the window.

What really pisses me off is that I'm very quick at Rome, but don't know Madrid.

I realize the argument "this tests your ability to deal with adverse situations" but it doesn't apply here. Why? Because not all of us can put in the time this weekend. If I were home, I would suck it up and put my times in......but I have a life/work and put aside the first half of this week knowing I would be gone the last three days. Now I have no chance at all.

Further, if they have another week off between rounds......then shame on them for not extending the time to accommodate their screw ups.

For shame.....screwing over those of us who can't even touch a console in the next three days.

It's odd to me that they don't just delay this until
next week, giving everyone a full week to run laps.

Sadly, this is a sign of the times. Why penalize those who were cheating, let's change the game completely; penalizing those who follow the rules as well. Again this had no effect on me because I stopped putting time in after Indy was dumped, but it's a bummer thinking about those of you who have put a lot of hours in...

To answer your question about why they don't delay and to the others who are saying the same thing. They don't have the time. The whole GT academy is on a very sensitive time-line. They can't delay this week because the Nationals needs to happen at a specific time so that they can have the time to narrow down the one winner. The winner has to spend about 7 months (per the rules) getting their racing licenses so that they can partake in the race that they earned a spot in. Pushing back the GT academy could disrupt the whole tournament. That is the reason they simply can't add time to the early rounds, they just don't have the time to give.

Now that being said, they have definitely shown poor planning considering they have done this before. First, they should have known every track that they were going to have us run along with the cars being set up to be a more neutral than they are. Every single Nissan we've driven has had wretched understeer. Plus, they should have tested all the tracks they planned on having us race on. It is human nature to find the quickest way around the track... I don't condone what the cheaters did as that pissed me off considerably, but it shouldn't have even come to that. The tracks should have been set up like the licenses, front or rear wheels off= failed lap. Not that difficult considering they've done it for a decade. It shows poor planning simple as that. It still boils down to all their fault mind you. They put themselves between a rock and a hard place and we are the ones that have to pay the price.. unfortunately.

This will be a rough weekend for all of us trying to make the cut. Best of luck to those trying to make the top 16 to move on.

I wouldn't worry so much about putting times in, I'm sure it will be a whole set of new tracks by that time.
