GT Academy July 2013!!

   Are you joking? Hamilton has out qualified Rosberg this year, and he deserved to have that win at Silverstone instead of Rosberg. Rosberg's done a great job but I still think Hamilton has the edge! Alonso is a class driver and his race craft is annoyingly brilliant! Vettel was outpaced by Ricciardo in testing, while running the same fuel load! Raikkonen is doing a solid job but I think his approach is quite cautious!

Vettel and Ricciardo set their times on different days didn't they? And I doubt Vettel was too bothered about going quickly :P At the end of the day there's no way of distinguishing between any of the top drivers unless they are in the same car.

Red Bull did a comparison, so I'm guessing he would've been pushing to do a quick lap, of course they did it on different days and the grip level may be slightly different, but the amount of rubber down on the track wouldn't change that much. 👍

Life is made easier by having a quicker car of course, I haven't followed f1 a great deal last few years since the "fueling rule" came in, but from what I gather red bull have had generally the faster car in recent times, take nothing nothing away from vettel he is very good,
But all things considered I think for me, alonso is the better driver, remembering back to when he was 2 or 3 time world champion in renault, when he probably had the third of fourth fastest car,
And seeing there analysis last weekend on alonso and how he can cleverly overtake people on the first few corners, what was it dc said? Master lol

There all amazing drivers, even max chilton who looks slow on tv and geting lapped, would run rings around practically anyone

Love the f1 arguments you won't find out who is the best even in the same team too much engineering.

p.s I honestly believe Adam Carroll was the best uk driver of that generation end of story

 We all know Hamilton is better than Alonso though, Hamilton finished on the same amount of points in his rookie year, Alonso came to Mclaren as a double world champion, Hamilton should have won that championship as well, but Alonso's tantrums stopped him!

Anyway I think we've gone a bit off topic hahaha!

For us who made it through to the naional final; when do we receive a mail from PD for more information about it? I've heard we must answer "yes" three days after we receive it, if not, we'll miss our place and I really don't!

Whats all the hamilton Alonso love in f1 theses days?? lewis has been slower than nico most of the year its all vettal & raikkonen for me:tup:

Hmmm…

I started out really disliking Alonso after his behaviour at McLaren. But you have to recognise he’s is just plain fast, full stop. He always gets the absolute maximum available from the car, and he was clearly the best driver in F1 last year.

Hamilton’s 1 lap pace has been incredible this year (as it has in every season he’s been in F1) – in 10 races he’s had 4 poles and 2 other front rows giving him the lowest aggregate qualifying ranking in F1. In the races he’s been consistent with an inconsistent car and he’s ground out results when it’s not at its best. He deserved the win at Silverstone and even without that is well ahead of Nicco in the Championship. Personally, I think Lewis has clearly demonstrated he’s a level above Nicco.

Let’s see how Vettel does when he doesn’t have the fastest car on the grid, then we might be able to see how good he really is. I really like Raikkonen’s irreverence, and he’s shown he’s fast in the past, but his performances this year come in a car that seems to be able to manage its tyres well rather than from Kimmi’s outright pace.

Loeb is in a class of one, and IMO, the best outright driver in the World. I remember when he 1st moved to the WRC from the French Tramac Championship and was immediately super quick on tarmac, but rubbish on gravel… I said on another forum at the time that I thought Markko Martin would win a Championship before Loeb won a gravel rally… then Loeb just obliterated everyone, every year, by miles on every surface.

If any of you guys who have reached the finals this year have 10% of thier abilities you'll probably be able to have quite a nice career in Motorsport

Why has the GT Academy thread wandered into a discussion about who is the best F1 driver and why? There's a thread for that.

Back on topic....

Congratz to all of you who met your goals this year. 👍 I've raced a lot of you on track in the WRS and it'll be fun to watch the results. I'll be cheering for you!

Unfortunately, I didn't hit any of my goals and was very frustrated. I got a late start, being away until July 19th, but still with the time remaining I expected more of myself. Drivers who I consider "in my ballpark" beat me by 1.5 seconds... Ouch. The aliens crushed me, no surprise, but by almost 3 seconds? :scared:

Ended up with a 2'19.2 and I know I left about 0.4-0.5 on track from my best splits, but no way I was finding the remaining 1+ second needed to make the cut. I guess getting older has it's disadvantages... I have more time to drive, but less ability to learn and adapt quickly. I never once got the slide and exit at The Loop right and was always down 0.6 by T1 versus even a mid 17 ghost which made it hard to learn from the ghosts later in the lap. The only corner complex I was fairly happy with was Brooklands and Luffield where I went from complete garbage to being able to keep up with the fastest. Maybe I'm good for one new corner (that doesn't involve a slide) every two weeks.

What's up everyone!? Glad to have made it to the finals this year! Fell out of place in the last hour in 2011, and was off pace by less than half a tenth of a second in 12. I'm new on here so I thought I'd introduce myself. Look forward to seeing the other finalists in NYC! Anyone gotten any emails yet btw?

No email here yet. Patiently waiting :sly: congrats on making the cut this year. I missed the last 2 years as well.

Already done and sent back ;)! Looks like we may be first up territory wise!

Yeah, I wonder if we will be on GT6 with the new physics. Now that would mess everyone up with the changing of tyres and cars, a true test of feel and adaptability. With that said, I would take GT5 in the nationals everyday haha! Purely because it's a known quantity!

I haven't sent mine back yet, I've almost finished filling the forms out, then have to scan them!

Do you know if we get to keep the t-shirts afterwards?

Of course you do :)! I have 4 :P! I'm making a GT Academy/GT Wall actually at the moment, well in planning phase :P!

I thought this was funny.

UK guys. You all got my best wishes for the territory finals. Especially you Bandit. You went from just driving the GT5 karts not too long ago to being near the top of the world. 👍👍 I hope to see lots of GTP members reach Silverstone, and maybe even have one win the whole competition!! :D

I know I didn't finish inside the top 16, but what email address did they send the emails to? Is it the one you use to sign in with on the PS?

Any clues as to where/what will be happening? :)

It is the one you used for your PSN. I also think RPM that you are probably in as well :), so that last minute lap may have done you wonders :)! But it may take a few days before they contact you for others to reply back with an answer etc.

When do the finals start? And is that through your ps3 or at a venue? The finals that is :)

Probably in the middle of August some time and we will probably be going up to Silverstone but I'm not sure, I don't think any details are out yet. :)
