There's an awful lot of people giving Bruno-MAY advice which is fine but unless any of us are better than him at racing or time-trailing I don't think we're in a position to know any better. Perhaps if Bruno defended the inside strongly he would've had to compromise his exit and entry for the next turn and someone might've been looking to dive up the inside of 4...who knows ? One thing I do know is Bruno knows...and better than the vast majority of people giving him advice. I think what happened happened and mainly due to pure circumstances and the simple point that you can't win them all when up against very unfavourable and unpredicatable circumstances. The form book has a big challenger for influencing results in this format even moreso than the usual variances in GT5p races.
I personally hope to see him back in these style competitions one day if that's the right thing to do but only he knows that...he certainly knows far better than I do.
I don't think it's fair to state that those who arn't as fast as MAY at Gran Turismo are not qualified to give him advice, or point out the errors he has/hasn't made. There are an awful lot of people out there, who's job exist solely to comment on other peoples work, when most of the time they can't perform the acts any better themselves...Can Simon Cowell sing? Can Martin Brundle still go as fast as the current F1 drivers?

There are endless examples...the best thing about a forum, is that qualified or not people can express their opinions.

It's not as black and white as people are making out, that's my only gripe. It's not a case of MAY was right or wrong, or that the black 370z driver was right or wrong. Some have said (myself included) that the black 370z did go in too deep for a first corner, but MAY as the better driver, could and should of compensated for this. If he left 1-2 car width's inside of him, I believe all the drivers would have made it through the first corners without any trouble.

I perceive myself as an above average road user and for this, I take it as my responsibility to look out for those who arn't as aware or obedient. If another road user switches lanes on a roundabout without indicating, I am not going to let him just turn into me and be part of an accident. If I enter a roundabout and the guy coming in from the first left turn, is going much too fast and although I have the right of way, I won't keep my speed up and crash into him. If someone is coming from straight ahead and not indicating right, I won't carry onto the roundabout, because I expect people to do stupid things.

You also need to appreciate, this competition has already ruled out that it doesn't want racing drivers to compete at the national finals. Essentially, everyone at the finals should be treated like any other moron on the British roads and if you perceive yourself as the best, you should not only have a plan b to any complications, you should have plan c that you can react to as quickly as any.

In the online racing league I race in, originally started by Villeneuve, we had someone complaining of difficulty when lapping backmarkers. He told the moaner, that as the faster, better driver it was his responsibility to make his way safely past the backmarker as generally, they are the slower, less experienced ones.

I will conceed, some situations on the road, GT or any form of racing accidents do happen and are unavoidable. But to me, this incident was as are the majority.

When the full GT5 comes out, no doubt we'll see all the familier faces back and get back to enjoying the game, rather than taking it all too seriously. 👍

...just got the minor complication of our final in a few days now :scared:

Tomorrow Im going to pick it up from Nissan headquaters, I can have it for 5 days, not sure about petrol costs, pretty excited about it!

I wouldn't worry about the petrol costs you will probely get a tankcard 👍.

Btw the Dutch finales have finished with the following results:
1 IRT_SolarSystem
2 Oenta
3 GTHQ-ralph
4 Bosjesman EB

To bad Spyrrari couldn't join the event.

Its OK Ian its just makes me laugh the people giving him advice who could barely stay within 20 seconds of him in a race. Too many people who think they know better not just giving advice that's the point.

Yeah just came back from it, what a deception that was...
When I heard that they were gonna only going to run GT5 Prologue Time Trails, I knew I was doomed, haven't touched that game in a year.

(To be honest I did one lap of Daytona road and Fuji yesterday. But I thought I wouldn't do anymore because I dind't want to get accustomed to the different physics) 👎

And to make matters worse.... they we're only running the GTR!? Why have I been practicing with RWD Nissan's for the the last two months :grumpy:

Either way I wasn't fast enough... but I'm just pissed :yuck:

Hmmz, that is indeed a bit odd. But that is my general feel over the whole competion each country has it own rules which i.m.o. should have been the same for all country.

But how was the venue? And judging and all of that kind off stuff??

The weird thing was that yesterday we all received the rules and race format in a nice word document (no mention of type of tracks though). That stated we we're gonna race in the 370Z normal/tuned version on three tracks in a sort of group system in a 4 player LAN game.

Apparently they decided to completely change that last night or this morning to Prologue with the GTR and Time trails only....!?! 👎:grumpy:👎

Venue was not great, everybody had to stand the whole day (no seating arrangements).

Judging wasn't much of an issue, seeing that that the competition only consisted of time trails.... in other words lame :grumpy:

Oh and another thing was that unfortunately headphones weren't allowed.
(There was a lot of distraction with an announcers giving real time commentary just behind you)

That's crazy. I can't believe how different each final is being run. I'm off to the Irish one of Saturday and I hope there are no surprises like what happened above.

Did anyone appealed yet? How can they change the rules in the night before, after they had given the instructions?

I have a feeling this will end up in a mess... i mean, that's just a huge sign of disrespect to the drivers that put up a lot of hard work on this "GT5" challenge...

To use Prologue, that just... 👎

Eeek...that does sound bizarre, regarding the Dutch final.

Perhaps they had issues with connecting the PS3's up? Or, maybe they had not received the relevant data to run the extra GT5 demo tracks etc...

Either way, hopefully we get an answer, that would totally mess me up going BACKWARDS to Prologue. Hopefully at the UK finals we just get to play mario kart. That'd be awesome...

This competition seems to lurch from one farce to another, very similar to GT5 as a whole. What the hell is going on at PD?

No headphones :S why not. Really bizar finale overall, only TT's. So nobody was asking questions there why it was so diffrent from the other countries and there own rules that were given the day before?

If that happens, there are two options get the lead and get away as far as possible. Or stay in the back the whole race and pick up the best item and win in the last second.

wtf?! :odd:👎
Hopefully the Belgian final isn't like that, although, from Belgium you can just expect everything:lol:

GT4 lan
I wouldn't be surprised actually :)

edit: Maybe the GT5 equipment didn't get there in time, due to the snow?
Trucks above 3.5 tons weren't allowed to drive on certain highways in Belgium yesterday due to the snow, so maybe the equipment had to come from the French final and was stuck in Belgium?

WHat the hell!!!!!!!! lol damn you Dan damn you.

Are you going to drive it on a race track? Some guy that lives down the road from me has one i might go and ask if i can borrow it :dopey:

They deliberately stated that the choice was made to run with GT5 Prologue because of race incidents and some (not specified) technical difficulties in other countries/finals.

I got the impression that it was a decision made by the dutch organization, not PD or that it was a logistical issue of some sorts.

I later heard a rumor of one of the other contestants that the venue's network infrastructure wasn't able to support the 4 player LAN battle. Apparently there was only crappy WiFi available. So no wired network where the racepods were located.

I off course regret that at the time I wasn't more vocal about the situation, but to be honest I don't think it would have changed the situation much.... It probably would have been a take it or leave it choice for me... there were other (reserve) contestant(s) waiting in line.

To shed some light on the situation : It was held at a Nissan dealership showroom... yeah I know real classy... :ouch:

There was an other rumor but I'm not gonna comment on that yet, because if that's true it would really undermine the dutch final's as a whole.

By the way thanks for the reactions guys, I glad I'm not alone with my opinion about this.

edit : Almost forgot... It was "allowed" (in other words no one stopping the guys) using the ghost of the previous driver who was in the pod, I didn't use it because I find that just really lame (you had 2 or 3 laps practice per track by the way, so a quick ghost was really use full)

Here's a new vid from the french final. Interestingly they had 5 drivers in the group stages. It's all in french but there is some nice footage. Check it out -

Ok, so I don't speak french but the video shows Lacombe as the 2009 GT champion and the Jordan kid as the 2010 champ. I thought lacombe/titech85 won this year too?

Where did learner driver finish? He's one of the fastest online drivers i've ever seen, but not much coverage about him here since the tt.

I think it was just to show he was a winning finalist for the previous gt academy maybe?..

🤬!?!?!! i think organizers always try to do the best events they can but allow players to use others ghosts on the finals is just tooooo lame... and

GT5Prologue + ghosts = ?
can i call them amateurs!?!!?... or is it too much!? 👎

poor finalists..

No, I don't think he won this year. In the article it says he had a time of 7'21 a the ring and the Jordan kid had a time of 7'19. I guess it was a time trial format and Lacombe lost. I'd need it translated cause someone in this thread said Lacombe moved on yet the video seems to show otherwise.

There are 2 people going through from France though. This also applies to Germany, Spain, UK and Italy as far as I know.

I think it's a bit strange how they are letting people who were at Silverstone last year go again. I mean fair play to those guys, they want it and they deserve it, but having done it before is going to be a huge advantage, especially Lacombe, as he made it to the final 6 of the first GT Academy. At the end of the video he is throwing around the 370Z like he's an instructor

Anyway best of luck to everyone. If you get that far you deserve something for your efforts 👍

Regarding letting people back to Silverstone this year who already made it last year, would only be fair IMO,being that they qualify again shows true talent, plus this competition is all about finding the countries best drivers and if they can do it again good on them 👍 Also as long as they didn't obtain a racing license they should still be eligible. :)

There will be videos of the race and the rest of the event. Also plenty of photos.
When I figure out how to evade this retarded firewall here at work, ill post some.
