Every Friday is the day all us New Foresters in Hamphire, UK, buy the local rag to see what's been going on around the local area. The Lymington Times & New Milton Advertiser is only a small local paper so it came as a huge shock for me as I sat down to read it during my lunch break and came across this:

:crazy::crazy:

What I want to know is, how come I never got my name in the local rag in 2008. ;)

Mark Ridout, are you a member here?

Sorry for the poor quality image.

Good spot, it’s a small world sometimes! Good to see it's been reported in a professional manner without being condescending.

My wife’s from down that way and when we were of holiday there a couple of years ago we stopped at Ferrari Lyndhurst for a bit of a nose about only to find they had an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione! It's such a beautiful looking car, I never thought I'd get to see one, it made the 599 next to it look plain.

Congrats Mark, please step forward ;)

(...) they decided to completely change that last night or this morning to Prologue with the GTR and Time trails only....!?! 👎:grumpy:👎
Venue was not great, everybody had to stand the whole day (no seating arrangements).
Judging wasn't much of an issue, seeing that that the competition only consisted of time trails.... in other words lame :grumpy:

These people don't know what they're doing!!!
Oh my god, what a disapointment this must have been for the dutch finalists.
:indiff:

I have watched a number of videos of finals using Indianapolis Road Course.

First, great driving by all, and best of luck to all the winners.

Unfortunately, it is my belief that all drivers cut over the curb leading onto the straightaway section. To me this invalidates all the drivers as normal racing rules state you MUST stay on the circuit at ALL times. I find it amazing all the GTPlanet members who are used to two tires on the track didn't follow such rules, and I am also amazed the organizers allowed it.

Before everyone goes ranting I know the track doesn't consider it a cut, but it probably should.

By following the GTP OLR rules, and not cutting the corner, our members would be putting themselves at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the world.

Dije from GTHQ just posted the video from the Dutch national final. Thanks 👍

Congratulations to SolarSystem (Eric) ;)

Shame I was knocked out in the half final, but it was a great day. Nice meeting all the guys 👍

I will post in more detail later on.

Driver upper left: Eric Kesselring (SolarSystem)
upper right: Edwin Bos (BosjesmanEB)
lower left: Ralf Verberkt (GTHQ_Raffels87)
lower right: Jeroen Kesselring (Oenta)

It depends on the racing series and their individual ruleset. GTPlanet OLR's mean nothing in this type of competition.

Watch how far outside the white line the DTM guys get at Dijon:

I'm guessing it's Markyboy92? Would be a huge coincidence to have 2 18 year olds named Mark in there.

Last year, they must have figured that Sphinx doing well in GT was old news. :sly:

Thx for the video's.
A shame it's prologue.
Haha that dude is funny:
,,Wil je naar die eerste plek, dan zal je even je ballen in de weegschaal moeten leggen"

.

Jardine International passed my photo to my local media, but I didn't hear anything. Clearly I am far too ugly and not as important as the numerous stabbings, murders and robberies in North London to be worth a mention

All the best

HA! You beat me to it mate! I think you'd have been in the finals, but got extremely *unlucky* with the draw. Next year ... !

Congrats to both Solarsystem and Oenta. Some stunning driving under pressure! 👍 I think I'll change my name to Kesselring next GTA and gain a couple of seconds :) Getting a DFGT will also help I guess :P

It's a good thing I didnt go to the event to win, I'd have been very annoyed otherwise (for reasons mentioned by pixr).

Cheers to everyone I spoke to at the event!

Scandinavian winner is Ocer_FI!

2nd: Midmark
3rd: Forza-Iceman
4th: GTP_Timppaq
.
.
7th: failing_finn

I'm not 100% sure for 2nd and 3rd places, could someone back me up?

What a complete joke this competition is turning into.

Punting, equipment falling to bits, using the wrong game. Absolute disgrace.

Matt.

And the race wasn't restarted?

No. There was conversation between THE judge (yes, only one judge) and race coordinator, but they decided to continue the race. At that point, Timppaq was about 10 secs behind rest of the band. He will tell you more, I guess.

1st: Ocer_FI -------- 15'31.178
2nd: Midmark --------15'32.862
3rd: Forza-Iceman --- 15'37.776
4th: GTP_Timppaq --- didn't finish

I'm absolutely gutted for Timppaq.

We don't see eye to eye, on pretty much everything (lol) but he's the best racer I've ever played with on GT. The only guy ever to impress me...

Really, really gutted!!

Wow...sorry to hear of Timo's misfortunes :( :ouch:

At this point it seems like Sony has little interest in finding the best racers possible (by keeping things fair), after hearing all of these horror stories.

AFAIC, Sony is far more concerned with this competition being a big publicity stunt than anything. 👎 Good way to treat your customers and loyal fans once you have them drawn in :(

+1 👍

joking with people's dreams... 👎 i agree with Ian as many guys also (knowing Timo) should agree too.. He is one of the best guys around GT i 've ever know: hot-lapping.. racing.. clean/fair... great job again sony/nissan :ouch:

Yes, point taken. But at Indianapolis Road Course where only F1 cars drove, they didn't jump it that much.

Considering that GT4 license tests wouldn't let you leave the track, I am surprised they are allowing it here as it provided a huge advantage in lap time.

By following the GTP OLR rules, and not cutting the corner, our members would be putting themselves at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the world.

Good point, but two wrongs don't make it right. I think that the organizers should have made it clear, and of course would have been even better if Polyphony Digital would not allow it.

Considering that I do development I fail to see why they can't get a simple rule in place that disqualifies a lap if outer tires are over the white line.

Brock, it might be best to consider that it's the individual countries organisers who are to blame.

In most cases for negative feedback, there has been a solution. But Sony, Nissan arn't directly in control of how these events are run and each event company is to blame for experiences like this. Still waiting to hear a more thorough description, but you can't really blame Sony or Nissan as they've put their faith in established event oranisers.

The proof of the pudding will be the UK finals. I'll be PM'ing anyone who will be involved, with some bullet points I'd like to read out on the Tuesday night before the event, to clear a lot of this stuff up so that we can all agree. Whether it be equipment failure, the possibility of running Prologue, or lack of care for marshalling it'd be nice to just use everyone elses examples, to set our own.

This isn't a frequent, or common type of international event to organise. Every event will uncover new difficulties that require solutions...even more so than the abundance of established motorsport authorities around the globe.

But equipment failing sounds totally obsure. We need further details, ASAP...

Again, gutted for Timppaq.

Congrats to their final winner though. It's unfair to take anything away from them.

Word.

Imo, one of the main mistakes made is that every country was allowed to decide entirely on their own how the finals were run. There were no rules set whatsoever.
Though I do honestly believe every country tried their best for a fair competition, it didnt work out. Lesson learned for next time I hope.

Markyboy92 living less than 5 miles from me?

That's it, I'm moving! ;)

Pegasusrjf,
We've already done this to death some time ago in another thread. We don't need to go over it again.
