One more thing, how respectful were the racers when it came to the runoff areas at Fuji, were people getting penalties or were they being abused? Were people weaving on straights to lose draft as well?

All the best

Honestly the run off areas at fuj never crossed my mind once. Winning the race was decided on weather or not you were involved in a crash or not.

I have had alot of races online with the people here and i have never had a race that bad. Nobody was giving me room, i was scared to attempt passing people for fear of them crashing into me.

The only close race i had was the final at indy, and theres no cheating there :D

The judges weren't worried about crashes so i'm sure they wouldnt worry about run off areas. It's all relative to who's organising your event, to win your going to need 50% luck and 50% skill, so people who are half as fast as you have just as much chance of winning :yuck:

Heck, I would be more than guilty of doing that if I was competing  It's perfectly legal in real racing (as long as you don't excessively block)...and it would be senseless to give up a 1 second a lap pace advantage by not ditching the handicap draft, only to get rammed in the rear under braking into turn 1, while potentially watching your dreams get flushed down the toilet...thanks to a bunch of nonsense (ridiculous slip stream and no penalization for contact).

I wouldn't use run off areas of course...unless everyone else was blatantly using them though (like tony1311 ). I think it's a matter of adjusting your game/etiquette when the time calls for it...of course without doing anything that would give you an unfair advantage.

Hi guys, sorry I haven't visited here early, been a bit preoccupied with moving house, and also a few phone interviews yesterday, but all is well now.

First up I'd like to specifically mention that i had an amazing time with GTP_Devie and Vrrm, you guys are great Still dissapointed, really dissapointed, that I knocked Devie off the track in semi final race 2. I can't really accept the fact that because the judges let it go, that it was a fair manouvre, due to Vrrms previous comments about Seeton being on the mobile phone during the incident.

All I can addamatly say is that at no time did I see you on my right at any stage during the exit of the second corner, and that I expected you to be somewhere there, depending on how aggressive you were, you knew I needed the win to progress so you knew I was in full commitment mode, I expected you to yield during that situation as its a really awkard place to overtake, regretfully we made contact causing you to come last, meaning that you just scraped through to the final on race wins, and slotted in 3rd on the grid for the final. Big appologies to devie for that, although I am not saying it was my fault, just the fact that I was the one that knoecked you off means I feel guilty about you not winning the whole thing, be back later.

well done to the winners so far and good luck to all the finalists. i am really enjoying following this competition and reading the write ups. good work .

I'm interested to find out who the betting is on for the UK final.

Thanks Dan, i had an awesome time with you as well and i don't hold any personal grudges against you for that nudge,i am more so dissapointed with the judges for not allowing a fair decision in that case with perhaps allowing us a re-run. I understand your point about being in full commitment mode and know that you probably didn't do it on purpose. There was also a suspicius braking manouvre into turn 1 on the last lap of the final which caused some problems for me and Joshmuggo but i guess under all that pressure and carrying 1 million kilometers an hour from that slipstream of mine you caught  i guess you done extremely well to hold it together even though you left the door wide open for me to overtake. I unfortunatly came off second best and am suffering for it. At the end of the day you won the competition and i am honestly happy for you (and jealous )and i will be cheering for you to represent our country. And hey,i got to meet you and made yet another new friend. Good luck in Silverstone and i wish you the best of luck with your life changing opportunity.

Bad luck Devie.

Shame that you have to loose out because of poor organisaton. Hopefully you'll do better next time with guys with more morals.

Matt

Hey there everyone,

Just joined GTP after attending the AU final on wednesday. Had an awesome time and will definitely be back next year bigger and better and faster. (and with more than 12 days experience on a wheel)

Had an awesome race in the final with Holland and DEVIE. unfortunately got taken out by tepez when in the lead which put me back to 3rd behind those two.

The one thing I do have to say about the day is how disappointed I am that the determining factor was time. When throughout the QF's and Semi's, any incident in a race was given a restart, why then in the most important race of the day was there no restart? There should have been 2 in the final.

When we are talking about a serious competition like this one and when Sony and Nissan are messing with people's dreams of becoming a race driver, to let something like poor organisation and time get in the way of that is extremely disappointing.

I would like to say congrats to Dan, well done and all the best in the UK.

Look forward to meeting some of you online or in these forums,

Joshmuggo

Just to back up what TiZzla is saying about the driving, in my one race at Fuji, from what I saw, the run-off was respected, perhaps more than I would have expected. Brendon (3rd in grand final) and I were battling for the lead throughout the race and more than once I saw him running it wide, but pulling back onto the tarmac, and almost losing TOO much speed by doing so. just to be sure there wasn't a penalty dished out I guess.
Looking back, that particular race was a good one. Closely fought and enjoyable. And no incidents or contact between Brendon and I throughout (bar the last turn), from my recollection.
As far the the major contact that occurred in a lot of the races, you could do a lot worse than to impose the standard GTPlanet online racing etiquette i.e. If you push someone off, you pull over and wait until they recover and pass you again.
If you were involved in a crash in the finals, that was it, you were on your own, wasting a ridiculous amount of time trying to overcome the grass physics, or should i say the lack of accelerator when your on the grass, while the fortunate ones who avoided the incident, race off into the sunset.

Hi again to the other NZ finalists :D. Awesome day with an awesome bunch of guys. I managed to sneak in during the semifinals and I can't believe how intense it was just watching the racing :boggled:

Some more photos of the day just got uploaded - http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y115/blazing_bullet88888/GT%20Academy%202010%20NZ%20Final%20-%20Luis/

I was lucky enough to take some snaps of the SCE NZ office lounge that morning and a quite blurry pic of the race control screen (it was curtained off unlike the AUS one) so hopefully those are interesting.

Feel free to link some of those photos here. Would love to talk more about the day :D

hey seeing that the NZ GT academy was at hampton downs race track do we think we could see this track in GT5?, it would be nice to have a track from NZ in GT5.

Highly unlikely to be honest, initially at least. But I have no idea what might be going on behind the scenes to push the idea forward, your certainly not the first to have thoughts along these lines, we discussed it informally at the finals too.
What could be more possible is that it could be DL content in a couple of years when the rest of the track takes shape. Its only really half done so far. yes there is a complete track there, but its more like the club circuit as opposed to the fully homologated international venue that it will become. Seeing what they have there so far, it will be an epic circuit, and worthy of a place on the world stage. Can only hope for it to have a place in the GT world.

PC Authority do an interview with Dan Holland, winner of the Australian leg of GT Academy.

I'm in :D

Just had a call saying all is good and I'm allowed to compete, so see all you other Brits at Brands :)

Congrats, TwinturboCH. 👍

Just out of interest, where did you finish on the UK leader board?

Well done and congratulations, look forward to meeting you

All the best

Many thanks :) Same here, I'll post up what car I'll be in nearer the time so you can keep an eye out for me :)

Thanks again.
25th :) Doesn't stand me in good stead really LOL but I did the TT in only 13 days, and I've got 12 days until Round 2, so I've got a fair bit of time to practice. :D

Heres a vid I made of the Australian event

One thing I will say to the other countries finalists is that the key to winning is being able to adapt to the situation the quickest, specifically the slip stream make sure you check your speed and break that little bit earlier if you've picked up a tow on the straight, I failed to do this at Indy and ruined a possible race win in my first race...
