Kuala Lumpur-based Australian Josh Hunt will race a Mercedes-Benz SLS in this weekend’s inaugural KL GT City Cup.

The 40 minute GT race has been billed as the showpiece of the inaugural KL City GP meeting, which will also feature demonstration races between five V8 Supercars.

Sixteen cars have been entered for the KL GT City Cup, headlined by four GT3 specification machines.

Hunt’s Mercedes will be fielded by Infinity Race Engineering alongside a Ferrari 458 for Malaysian Adrian D’Silva.

Sydney-based Radical Australia race team manager Chris Papadopoulos has been charged with engineering Hunt’s entry at the new street circuit.

Moving to KL earlier this year to head up local operations for the Energy Corse karting empire, Hunt’s most recent GT outing came just last month, where he co-drove a Lamborghini in the Townsville round of the Australian championship.

“I’m really pumped to get behind the wheel for the inaugural KL City Grand Prix this weekend,” said Hunt.

“The SLS is a mega car, and I’m confident we’ve put together the best team for a chance on the podium.

“I’m grateful to have the support of Kurnia AmAssurance. It’s exciting to be backed by such an iconic Malaysian brand, racing in this iconic Malaysian street race, within my first year of operating in Asia.”

An OD Racing Lamborghini Gallardo for former Lotus Racing Formula 1 test driver Fairuz Fauzy and Craft Bamboo Racing Ford GT of Frank Yu completes the GT3 entry.

The remainder of the field is made up of six Lamborghini Super Trofeos, a Porsche Carrera Cup car and GT4 machinery from Lotus and Aston Martin.

BMW will officially uncover its new M6 GT3 challenger at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

Successor to the ageing Z4 GT3, the German manufacturer has announced its latest GT offering will be unveiled on September 15 ahead of a planned first race next year.

Confirmation of the M6 GT3s launch comes just weeks after the Z4 GT3 claimed the iconic Spa 24 Hours endurance, courtesy of the Marc VDS squad.

BMW claims its new twin turbo 4.4 litre V8 powered GT3 challenger is its most economic yet reporting running costs which are 30 percent lower than its predecessor.

The M6 GT3, which is expected to undergo FIA Balance of Performance testing in France next month, is understood to have already attracted interest from Australian GT Championship competitors.

Customers are expected take delivery of the M6 GT3 early next year.

I'm impressed to see that the Ford GT is still a competitive car even after all these years (debuting around 2007!).

Winning it's class in the KL GT City Cup, and of course, the win at VLN Round 5 (yes, I know it was modified, but still) is impressive for a car of it's age, especially considering that few if any of it's competitors from '07 still show up on track let alone be that competitive.

Poor, poor Supaloc Ford GT. :indiff: Huge crash. Won't be seeing it for a while.
Not the first time for that car either. I witnessed it have a big crash through the Senna Chicane in Adelaide a few years back. Gotta feel for that team, such a shame. I wonder what happened, did they end up showing a replay?

I don't know what happened, but Morgan Haber in the Erebus Merc was closing in behind him prior to Weeks' crash.
I really hope Morgan had nothing to do with but, the speed difference between the 'Pro' drivers and the 'Am' drivers, and with it being the last lap, he might have run the Ford wide on the exit and so on...

Sad to see it crash again. I doubt it would be the easiest car to get parts for. It's great to watch and listen to trackside. Hopefully we will see it again.

Speaking of Aus GT, that Ginetta is a beast! Maybe it's Matt Campbell driving so fast and aggressively, and making too many mistakes atm, but is seems to be damn quick at every track.

Klark Quinn doesn't seem to be as quick in the McLaren as he was over the past few seasons in the Porsche. I was a bit surprised to see that Tony Quinn is leading the championship. I didn't think he was doing that well, but I guess he is :P

No footage has surfaced so far but Weeks has been hospitalised due to severe chest pain as a result of the crash.

After 2 days of testing and practice and 2 hrs before qualifying the Flying Lizards/KPAX McLaren team has packed up it's cars and is going home over BOP issues. http://www.lizardms.com/news/releases/2015/august-22.html

They ran 9th and 17th in practice. 4 of the top 8 cars were also turbocharged.

If I was a SCCA official I would block the team's transporters from leaving the track until the end of the day since they want to put on show of embarrassing the series by pulling out during the event.

If they genuinely can't run it, they can't be at fault in any way, shape or form. You can't lambaste someone for something physically impossible.

K-Pax are a good team in a strong position. They would not throw away a weekend out of pure spite. I'll wait for the organisers to respond in full, to see what they have to say, but they've presented a pretty clear cut argument for not taking part.

Everybody else made their cars work with the rules they were given to follow. I guess the Lizards were hoping that the rules would be re-written because they didnt show up prepared to deal with the altitude.

The Blancpain BoP works, hence why it's so widely adopted now. They ran OK-ish in practice, they weren't miles off, so it's hard to believe they had a serious issue with the outright pace of the cars.

The PWC is a bit scrappy at the best of times. I don't think you can comment too much on it at the minute without a proper reply from the organisers, because this sounds like there's more to the story than meets the eye. To me, now, it just sounds like a basic BoP adjustment that wasn't thought through.
