GT Racing - GT1, GT3, Blancpain Endurance Series & National GT SeriesSports Cars

I was thinking about that when I first heard about it...what's with the SCCA? Wouldn't it make their lives simpler to just use the Blancpain BoP?

I don't know what happened, but Morgan Haber in the Erebus Merc was closing in behind him prior to Weeks' crash.
I really hope Morgan had nothing to do with but, the speed difference between the 'Pro' drivers and the 'Am' drivers, and with it being the last lap, he might have run the Ford wide on the exit and so on...
They just showed on-board footage of the incident. Morgan Haber was not involved, however, the other Erebus Merc of Max Twigg was.

Twigg went down the outside into of turn 8.
He held position around the corner and maintained overlap on the exit of the corner.
Weeks didn't appear to see that Twigg was still (just) alongside, and moved across with the racing line. A little bit of contact spat the Ford GT into the concrete wall, doing the damage.

As I type this, Tony Quinn spins on the exit of turn 3 and into the concrete barrier and is out of race 2. The other two McLaren's of Klark Quinn and Tony Wallis spun in the exact spot on lap 1, however both just did a 360' on the black stuff and continued .

SMP is a bit wet today. @05XR8 @Cap'n Jack

Edit/Update: Tony Walls has just spun into the concrete barrier on the exit on turn 3. Two McLarens taken out by the same piece of concrete.

No BoP is perfect, but doing one yourself just adds unnecessary complication.

I'm not going to say either party is in the wrong until we hear some more facts.

... and the Ginetta is gone with Denyer 17 seconds ahead.

For the British contingent:

I'm running a contest over on Downforce Radio right now. The prize is a pair of tickets to the British GT season finale as well as a family pass to the Donington Grand Prix Collection!

To enter you need to answer the following two questions...

1 – How many times has British GT visited Donington Park since the championship began?

2 – Who won the first ever British GT race, and what was he or she driving?

Deliver your answers via E-Mail only (win@downforce-radio.co.uk). The closing date is 10PM this Friday, September 4th. Everyone who answers correctly will be entered into a random draw for the tickets, with the winner announced on our Downforce Debrief show this coming Monday.

Also, a brief hint - www.racingsportscars.com is an endurance fan's heaven, and the answers are easy to find there!

Now confirmed as the new Porsche GT3

The M6 is my favourite modern GT3. It's not spindly or fussy. It's almost as if Tonka designed a GT car.

We have the Bentley for that.

And my time as a BMW fan is almost up. Back to just Aston Martin and GM (Camaro, Caddy, Corvette). :P

Finally found a video with the BMW M6 GT3 as well as the New Porsche 911 GT3R:

Just to be clear, the BMW is not running fully in anger as its basically just having a rollout (in less then favorable conditions) while the Porsche has supposedly had far more miles put on it and thus they are running at full bore in the rain.

Even so, the benefits I already hear alittle of from having a Turbo V8 is the classic Deep Roar WITH the classic wastegate AND that distinct Snarl that we hear with the Turbo V6s. All good if you ask me 👍

I watched this a few weeks ago and I think it sounds so plain compared to the snarling S65 in the Z4.

Well after hearing The Z4 in full song for the last Four (or five?) years, of course hearing this not at full pace sounds pedestrian in comparison. I'd wait until this thing is driven in anger (and on a Dry track preferably) before fully judging it.

At the end he does put the throttle down enough though...and...it's the Mclaren 650S (engine) all over again. Yuck....

However...that Porsche sounds amazing! They've got that flat 6 screaming!

I agree, compared to the rest of the Germans, I feel like the Z4 was the least accomplished (but by no means uncompetitive) car of the group, especially if you neglect this years successes.
