GT Racing - GT1, GT3, Blancpain Endurance Series & National GT SeriesSports Cars

That deal was crap this year, total power move and nothing more,

Let's see if it's a conflict in contracts with V8 drivers being on Foxtel & Ten. Are the drivers allowed to be shown on a competing network? Might be a clause in Foxtel's rights. We'll see

Just heard on MWM about this very issue and GM has said the Corvette GT3 will not race in North America. This comes from the head of Callaway. They dont want it competing against the Cadillac or on the same track as the GTLM Corvette.

I get the Imsa part, but the restriction on PWC makes no sense. Whelen Corvette GT3 to race in ADAC or BES.

In case you were still wondering why the restriction on PWC made no sense, I bolded it for you.

Somebody get them on the phone....NOW!
I'm reasonably sure that, at this point, it's safe to say that GM doesn't want the Corvette racing in North America. If they are willing to go to lengths to ensure the car is not marketed here, they're going to follow up to make sure nobody gets crafty and races it here anyways.

And really, who likes Corvette's so much that they'd sink themselves into a financial hole just to race one here when there's no support or supply partners based here because the company that makes the car is not allowed to market it here.

Rich people don't get rich by recklessly blowing money away completely running someone else's car on their own dime (at that point they might as well go full Glickenhaus and just make their own), and any die-hard GM team isn't going to risk souring their relationship with the company by going against their wishes to run a Corvette that the mothership doesn't want in the US.

And if that means an American sponsor hires American drivers to go and race in Europe, then I'm all for it.

On the other hand, it's not like they need to "sell" the Corvette in North America anymore... It makes sense to market & milk the Caddy, perhaps in an effort to steal sales from BMW/M-B/Audi in the sports sedan segment...

Stealing, or trying to steal European or Asian sales from Porsche, Ferrari or Aston Martin by marketing the 'Vette over there? Go for it!

You talking about the same thing we're talking about?

That is very clever of you thanks for that. Now can you explain the reason behind that decision? The ATS was designed to be a direct rival of the BMW 3 series, the Corvette is a rival every other car on the PWC grid that is not a Acura TLX.

That all makes sense until you start adding "GT3" after the names of those cars.

GM is likely protecting their investment. It would be embarrasing to have your factory backed Cadillac team get beat by privateer Corvettes. Who really knows though.

Not really there is plenty of "privateer" teams out there beating "factory" teams.

My question about GM and their Caddy deal, is; if they're so adamant about marketing the Caddy, why don't they set up shop in Europe and let it compete in the BES?

Because GM, being American is completely oblivious to a world outside of the U.S.A....

I wouldn't imagine there's much of a market for the Caddy in Europe, the previous ones never sold well.
