GT Racing - GT1, GT3, Blancpain Endurance Series & National GT SeriesSports Cars

Maybe longer than that...it is GT3 afterall, therefor less expensive. Besides Ratel is smart enough, if he thinks it'll work he'll try and do it, and vise verse.

I don't really see why A1GP wasn't super expensive and most open seaters outside of F1 are about as expensive as most other forms of top tier racing. It's just the A1GP in GT3 form it seems and though I like the idea of World cup like sports to supposedly claim a superior nation when you win, I just don't see it catching tons of fire. Though I hope it does due to as I said like WC types sports.

Lowndes (?) was in a Ferrari for Spa 24 wasn't he?
Yep, with Wyatt in one of the AF Corse cars.
Roger Lago ran his Gallardo with Owen, Richards and Russell, Talbot in the Kessel (?) Ferrari and Muscat (Erebus Acadamy) was in a Black Falcon SLS.

Like A1GP which didn't last long...not sure how this would last all that long
Well this isn't a spec series that's going up against Formula 1 during their off season, this is a one off event involving a huge array of different manufacturers that only show up for one event. Admittedly easier to put together.

Since we're speculating, here's my list of what cars and teams each country would run, some of the larger countries will get two teams and cars representing them (I will include speculated cars like the Cadillac and Porsche 991/911 GT3-R):

United States - Viper GT3-R/Riley Tech, Cadillac ATS-V.R/Pratt & Miller OR Ferrari 458 GT3-Audi R8 LMS ultra/DragonSpeed Racing OR McLaren 650S GT3-Audi R8 LMS ultra/United Autosports
Canada - Viper GT3-R/Riley Tech
United Kingdom - Bentley Continental/M-Sport Bentley, Aston Martin Vantage V12 GT3/Aston Martin Racing
Germany - Mercedes SLS AMG GT3/HTP Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3-R/Wochenspiegel Manthey
Scotland (?) - BMW Z4 GT3/Ecurie Ecosse
Belgium - Audi R8 LMS Ultra/Belgian Audi Club WRT, BMW Z4 GT3/Marc VDS
Netherlands - Callaway-Chevrolet Corvette C7/V8 Racing
Denmark - Aston Martin Vantage V12 GT3/Aston Martin Racing
Austria - Lamborghini Huracan GT3/Grasser Racing
Switzerland - Lamborghini Huracan GT3/Blancpain Racing, Maserati GranTurismo GT3/Team Swiss OR Emil Frey Jaguar GT3/Emil Frey Racing
Brazil - BMW Z4 GT3/BMW Sports Team Brazil
Russia - Audi R8 LMS ultra/G-Drive Racing, Ferrari 458 GT3/SMP Racing Russian Bears
Spain - Porsche 911 GT3-R/Drivex School, Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3/Team RJN
Italy - Ferrari 458 GT3/AF Corse, BMW Z4 GT3/ROAL Motorsports
France - McLaren 650S GT3/ART Grand Prix, BMW Z4 GT3/TDS Racing
Australia - Mercedes SLS AMG GT3/Erebus Motorsport, Lamborghini Huracan GT3/Lago Racing
New Zealand - McLaren 650S GT3/Von Ryan Racing
Hong Kong - Aston Martin Vantage V12 GT3/Craft-Bamboo AMR
Japan - Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3/B-MAX Racing Team, Lexus RC-F GT3/------

This is obviously a pretty rough guess. I'm not sure how crazy they would allow foreign teams to represent other countries (ex: Riley Tech running a Canadian Viper or AMR running a Danish Vantage?) I think if they didn't it would limit the field too greatly, though.

These are most of the cars and teams that I've noticed have strong links to their countries and drivers they use tend to be from that country. In the case of the US, obviously Riley Tech and Pratt & Miller would be the shoe-in teams to represent the US... but would they be likely to travel abroad? DragonSpeed, albeit a smaller team, has had eyes on heading to Europe and so could represent the US, and United Autosports is based in the UK and is a pretty well established GT3 team. So there are questions there.

Thanks 👍, if it's all for just one event then I guess I could see how it may work but we'll have to see. Also I say the French get together bring back Oreca into the fold and take the viper. The U.S. will do just fine with the Cadillac.

Oreca is much busier this time around, I just don't see them running a Viper program unless Dodge really needs a team running and supporting the cars in Europe. But unless that happens, I can only see the Viper remaining a primarily North American based car. The teams I've picked above for France are already based in France and use a good deal of French Drivers (TDS' lineup currently consists of only French Drivers, at that).

No I know that, it's more of a dream not something that is actually feasible

Ahh, yeah, sorry I can take things a bit too seriously. Thinking about it, though, ORECA really doesn't run a GT3 program of much note (not sure if they still run Audi's in FFSA), so I think it could be a good fit if Dodge SRT Motorsports wanted to expand and support the Vipers in Europe.

And if this GT3 World Cup thing took off, I could see countries fighting over teams and cars to represent them if they took it seriously.

That would be crazy. Italy's choice is easy. XD

I think a good idea for this series might be to instill the old school country racing colors thing, like British Racing Green for the UK, blue with white stripes for America, French Racing Blue for France...and not flag motif wraps. :P

This speaks volumes about the great health of GT racing around the globe. :D

I would hope teams would run the national colors, but sponsors pay the bills, and that's the lifeblood of all racing these days. The last thing you want is to run what could end up becoming one of your most televised races without a name on the side of your car.

And flag motifs would be acceptable for teams from countries that don't have widely-recognized sporting colors, because alot of the national colors for some countries are horrendous.

And Italy's choice was surprisingly too easy. AF Corse seems to dominate in terms of Italian teams. And despite Lamborghini and Maserati both being present in GT3, I couldn't find a single notable Italian team that ran either of the marques (Although the Maserati is admittedly a one-team wonder).

Switzerland - Lamborghini Huracan GT3/Blancpain Racing, Maserati GranTurismo GT3/Team Swiss OR Emil Frey Jaguar GT3/Emil Frey Racing
"Blancpain Racing" is the Reiter factory team with Swiss title sponsorship in the form of Blancpain. I would go Kessel Racing, I'd say the most competent Swiss team in GT3 racing.
Japan - Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3/B-MAX Racing Team, Lexus RC-F GT3/------
NDDP isn't a bad choice by any means, but as it's name suggests, it's a driver development program. I'd go for GSR and Gainer, clearly the two best GT3 teams in GT300.

I hate this car already. A fat, 4 door V6 GT3? GM you're stupid...GT3 is for Coupes not bloated fat versions of touring cars. May the Viper beat this wreck every time they meet...glad I'm a Aston Martin guy...

Okay I ranted a little. But still, this is a joke. A V6T? What about the V8?! Ugh, I hope they don't do a customer program.
I just looked up the stats of the production car and the 2015 ATS 4dr is damn near identical to the BMW 335i and the new ATS coupe is a clone of the M4. Why its not the all new 2015 ATS coupe, who knows? http://www.roadandtrack.com/go/future-cars/2016-cadillac-atsv-coupe-spy-shots#slide-1

Shame on you all for not reading the article. Seriously. It clearly states that it will be the coupe. CLEARLY. And if I'm not mistaken, isn't the GTR V6TT? This program is yet to be finalized, too, so I see no reason why they couldn't make it a V8.

Shame on Marshall Pruett for not having the facts right, when I read it this morning it said 4 door and the picture was a 4 door.

Yeah that's what I read...last night on Racer they said 4 door ATS....not a coupe. They said they weren't running the coupe...great so now I can't even trust Racer. Come on, I read before saying anything. If it was the coupe that'd be fine, the coupe is a perfect successor to the old CTS-V coupe. But you can't say that sedans fit GT3 well. Coupe versions of sedans sure...just look at the old BMW M3 GT2/E car.

Hey...I love the GTR a lot...but a fat Caddy needs a V8. :P I'll get used to it.

That may be, but I doubt Reiter would get the nod to represent Germany when there are four German brands ahead of it, so being able to field the Swiss car would be acceptable, and the team is listed as a Swiss team and a separate entity (as far as points are concerned) from Reiter. And Kessel does seem like a better choice, but Emil Frey was put up there because they essentially built their Jaguar, run the team, and field a team of only Swiss Drivers. Kessel is essentially an Italian team in every sense aside since they run a Ferrari and field an entire group of Italian drivers.

I finally found out where you got "NDDP" from, since I was curious where you did as I didn't mention it. I was referring the the B-MAX team that runs in GT Asia, and the one that supports NDDP in Super GT.

And while it might seem silly, for countries that have a rich automotive history, I feel it would be a shameful cop-out to run another country's car unless there's a very good reason for it. Ultimately, it's a trivial matter, but I think Japan's teams should run either a Nissan or a Lexus. Although I really wouldn't mind seeing the Goodsmile BMW since it's probably the most internationally recognized Super GT GT300-GT3 car.

My mistake then. I wasn't aware of the GT Asia team that's independent of NDDP.
