GT Racing - GT1, GT3, Blancpain Endurance Series & National GT SeriesSports Cars

These guys are really lax on leaving cars on the track and avoiding full course cautions.
No different than last season's opener when that Mustang was stopped basically in the racing line at one of the fastest parts of the track and no yellow

So I was asking myself yesterday, "Why move GTS to it's own races only to then add GT Cup to the GT races?"

It then occurred to me that all of those GT-America teams racing in IMSA have cars that can be converted to GT3 Cup specifications and will likely look for a place to go come 2016 and wont want to downgrade to Cup-only racing.

Still, it's such a shame to see the class added, since it will only stunt the potential growth for the GT and GT-A classes.

I think this is the first time I've ever seen wet racing at COTA, so that alone is interesting. Opening laps were definitely better compared to yesterday!

I agree they could be a bit less lax on yellows and SCs, but at the same time I much prefer this to the ridiculous yellows/SCs of other series (*cough* USCR/IMSA *cough*).

The Acura really moved up the ranks. Good for them. Too bad Mr. Cunningham wasn't able to run as well. Great win for the McLaren. Such dominance.
On another note, that half-hour run time felt incredibly weak to me.

Looks like Bryan struggled in the rain. That McLaren must be really good in the wet, had a massive lead at the end.
I think it has more to do with Estre being competent and knowing what lines to take.

A certain Brazilian once proved that even the worst cars can be dominant if you know what you're doing in the wet.

So awesome to see big name players like Estre racing in the states. He had a great drive today. I can't wait to see them in St. Petersburg later this month.

We stayed on the feed and watched the Touring Car classes race, pretty good racing there too. Certainly looked like fun with all of the sliding about.

I dont suppose it has anything to do with a month of testing the Flying Lizard team has done at Sebring and the wet testing at COTA last week? The Nissan's had the whole 15 min warm-up session Sunday morning to engineer the cars wet settings and practice.:boggled:

I'm sorry, my reply wasn't including or comparing the McLaren to the Nissan in any way. I was only talking about Estre's performance overall, since Turbo cited the McLaren as being good in the wet.

You do make a good point, Estre's familiarity with McLaren machinery and the development of the team gave him a good advantage over the others who might be less familiar with wet conditions or the specific car or tires, etc.

And Heitkotter has little experience with the GT-R GT3 in addition to the team, but overall the AE/AIM operation and their drivers did rather well given the circumstances. They had a better showing than the Bentley's if I'm not mistaken.

When is it being put on Youtube :(

If it shows up before it airs on CBS-Sports this Saturday I would imagine that a take down order will be issued pretty quick. The lower classes don't air until the following Wednesday either. So if you see it you better watch it fast.

My guess is the PWC Youtube airing will be the CBS broadcast so it should be up next Monday.

Going forward PWC needs to address the stream/broadcast concept. The CBS post race produced broadcast might be worthy of a Emmy but if the live stream is so bad that the feedback is 90% negative then the damage is done.

Op-ed piece. http://sportscar365.com/features/commentary/dagys-room-for-growth-in-pwc/

this little nugget of passive aggressive BS.

Still, local promotion of the event appeared to be non-existent, and even IMSA’s Vice President of Marketing, David Pettit, who visited the paddock on Saturday, said he only stumbled upon the race after stopping by a barbecue restaurant adjacent to the circuit.

He just happened to stumble and noticed several of the ex-GTD teams racing, sure that is totally believable.:odd:

PWC always posts up the live stream version of the race before the TV one aires.

PWC has leagues of ground to make up with not much time to really do it. I'm really surprised the standing starts haven't been crucified yet for safety reasons which they didn't do during the second race. I know that it'll be a paddock space nightmare when they go to race with IndyCar. Seems as they still have the same faults that IMSA does regarding series management just it has been ignored up to now because no big names have complained about it before and there's been no expectation of it being worth paying attention to more than it being the race accompanying IndyCar. The only draw to it is that it's cheaper than IMSA, and now that the "IMSA iz NASCAR and all bad boo!!!" horse has been beaten into a pulp, everyone is beginning to realize that the alternatives are no better and in the case of that article, some former IMSA competitors say that it's worse in PWC

Kevin Estre is a world class GT driver – and his performance in the wet on Sunday further underlines that – BUT was there another factor at play?

Hans Reiter certainly thought so when the DSC Ed bumped into him at Austin Airport on Sunday evening.

“I think he drove brilliantly, but I think the KPAX team can read a little better than the rest of us too: The regulations say that rain tyres are free – That means you can use any Pirelli wets you like – the rest of us bought the Pirellis on offer at the circuit. I am guessing the McLaren team didn’t!”

Happily the moment arose to press the point as the next man along to the gate was – Kevin Estre!

“All I can tell you is that they had Pirelli written on the sidewall” said a happy Sunday race winner – but a twinkle in the eye seemed to indicate that Herr Reiter wasn’t a million kilometres from the truth!”

Well that certainly explains that, althogh Estre still did a good job of keeping his car off the racing line and making the most of those wet tires.

That's what I commend him for. Whincup seems to be wasting any talent he has. Bright, Courtney, Jim Richards, Dick Johnson, Lowndes, Craig Baird, they've all tried something else. At least once. More power to him.

Arrived today :D
