Today SCE annonced combined sales results for Gran Turismo franchise.

GT series has sold in 43,670,000 copies since 1997.

UPDATED: sales per game

Gran Turismo • 10 840 000
Gran Turismo 2 • 9 340 000
Gran Turismo 3 • 14 360 000
Gran Turismo Concept • 1 540 000
Gran Turismo Prologue • 1 340 000
Gran Turismo 4 • 6 250 000

So, so far GT4 alone has sold in 6,250,000 copies since its release on all three territiories (Japanese, US, EU).

Nice to know, yes?

Pretty damn amazing, isn't it, my Croatian friend? The numbers for the game sales are only half the story. Just imagine now that this series has endorsed its own award show, a special edition Nissan 350Z/Fairlady Z, simply put, the game series has come a very long way. I'm sure with Gran Turismo 5 in the works, I'd like to see what PD has planned for the series' 10th Anniversary. Great job to PD, Sony Computer Entertainment, and the loving fans who made this series what it is.

Perhaps this is matched by the GTA (grand theft auto) series, as GTA III sold about 13,000,000 copies, GTA Vice City sold about 17,000,000 and by the latest figures I can find for San Andreas there are at LEAST 6,000,000 million copies sold and those figures are months old - plus you need to take into account GTA I, GTA II and the GTA London one, and I would think that GTA would have to be the winner!!!

Could you please post a link to the site where you got this info?
That is pretty sweet though. :) 👍

It is excluded part of the SCE info towards various assets in Computer Entertainment Division, and you can find it all across the web right know in different forms, since major of the sites has published it today.

Have no particular links, since my info haven't come for site. However, minor browsing should do the job.

Guess that sweet 43,6 millions makes it the best selling game series of all times.

how about The Sims? some search for information would be good before making such statement...

To be 100% exact, the best selling video-game of all time is Pokemon-based various games, topping no less then almost 100 millions in various itterations, blah.

The Sims would be 2nd, FF series 3rd and the fight for 4th place should be held beetween GT and GTA series. But...

I was missing the word "home-console" while reffering.

Pokemon franchise made it's best sales trough various Nintendo's handhelds, The Sims made it's zillions trough the PC market, while only FF series made almost all of its 50 millions trough various home-console since 1987., which makes FF series the best selling game, so please, excuse me for being wrong on this particular subject.

I ahve also deleted the line from the fiirst thread, while originnal line can be seen roug quoting in pervious threads.

number of sales X price per unit = BAH!!! Thats alot of money...

Those numbers don't even come close to the number of people who actually play the games either. If you add in the number of people playing hacked/copied versions of all those games, or even just at a friends, than ya finally start to realize how big of an industry this really is, and how many people it affects.

I'd like to know how many copies were sold in the US during the first 24 hrs of the release.

BTW, thanks for the sales stats.

Thanks for that , my friend from Hrvatska! :)

It's a reminder that while we all enjoy these games, its alsoa mega business !

Multiply the 45 Mio copies with an average price of US$50 (i know some copies were sold for less, but there are some countries where the games are way more expensive than 45-50 US$), and you end up with a staggering turnover of 2.25 Bio USD.....(in Europe 2.25 MRD. USD) 💡

OR, with other words, we have a voice (namely our purchasing power) when it comes what we want/expect from GT5. And GTP is a great platform to raise our voices....keep on the good works, my racing friends! 👍

Well, keep in mind that greatest hits sell for only about $20, and that the earlier games (GT1 and GT2) cost less because they were PS1 titles that didn't cost as much as most PS2 games cost these days. However, assuming the average cost was only half that, that's still over $1 B USD. Major cashola, people!

I'd bet on Mario fo that one. He's been around since Donkey Kong after all.

Wow, it's been selling really well. Already over 6 million sold.

Mario is probably the best seller of all time. Or maybe FF, it's been around for a while and has a big fanbase, although I think they suck.
