I was there that day in 1981. A bit further up the track at Scheivlak corner from where all we could see of this was a huge plume of dust rising into the air. I was gutted when I realised it was Gilles who went off as he was, and still remains, my number one F1 hero and unfortunately I got to see very little of him throughout the weekend as he had a lot of technical problems with his car which severely restricted his on track time.
