Edit: Could still access the event in game from my 2nd account which wasn't registered so I guess it doesn't really matter unless you're one of the top top drivers

Thank you for posting both of these! Wouldn't have even known to register for it without check here! Is the Tab now showing In Game yet?

Registered & Going to test the Car this evening and prep for tomorrow Manufacturer Races.

Hmm... Look where my arrow is pointing.:mischievous::cool:

I suggested the Multipliers be lowered to 1x, for full speed racing, like the real Toyota 86 races around the world.

I was going to ask why this car has 8 gears, but then realised the actual car only comes in Automatic.

Off topic but is that really what people want in a sports car?

The long high gears are overdrive for meeting fuel/emissions targets, and the lower gears can be shorter to have better acceleration. As for manual, well we enthusiasts like to say we prefer stickshift, but fact is the sales of manual cars have been declining for years. At the end of the day, if there's no demand to make it economically feasible to develop 2 gearboxes, car manufacturers just won't do it. Also, I bet borrowing the powertrain from BMW also has an effect. When was the last time we see a stickshift modern BMW?

The new question is: Are we using N300 or N400 BOP? That can make a difference in which Supra will be better suited...

Under N300 BOP:
2019 Supra - 294hp (88%), 3148 lbs (94%), 324.7 ft-lb torque
2020 Supra - 294hp (77%), 3036 lbs (90%), 284.1 ft-lb torque

Under N400 BOP:
2019 Supra - 368hp (110%), 3351 lbs (100%), 405.9 ft-lb torque
2020 Supra - 394hp (103%), 3373 lbs (100%), 380.0 ft-lb torque

The power & torque figures alone don't tell the whole story. The 2019 car has wider powerband but narrower torque band, the 2020 car opposite. I did a short test with both at Fuji, under N300/400 specs. Straightline performance is fairly similar. The 2020 car is more stable overall but I can see a more skilled driver being faster with the 2019 on twisty tracks. I think it just comes down to driver preference at the end of the day.

There's the high tire wear multipliers again. Ugh. That is NOT what this series should be about. 👎

Going to miss the first round anyway, I'll be getting professional photos taken of my car and won't be home...

Sports Hards don't wear as much as Racing tyres. Last year we were in the high 20s  These look much more reasonable.

---------

Comparing my notes from last year, all of the races are about 25% longer and tyre wear about half. Fuel shouldn't be an issue. The exception is Sarthe and N24, where the races are 1 lap shorter but tyre wear is higher. Also a lot more grid starts from what I remember. And slipstream is set to Real this time so field spread is gonna be a lot bigger.

The first race was packed last year then gradually died off. Would be interesting to see if more people participate this year. I have a feeling the average GTS player doesn't care as much about road cars than previous GT games' demographics...

Hey the manual BMW isn’t dead yet. The M2 still has one and the next M3/M4 is rumoured to still offer one as well, as well as the low-end RWD models in Europe. The Mini platform they’re using for their FWD models can support one as well since the actual Minis still offer one, they could add one there if there was demand. Wouldn’t be surprised if the 2.0T Supra offers one at some point since the 4-cylinder Z4 does.

But I agree with the lack of demand, production efficiency and fuel economy being the reasons. Modern performance car buyers care mostly about the numbers on paper and manuals can’t produce the same way as an automatic or dual clutch. It may affect future collectibility though.

I strongly feel that only that 1% in the US and EU is keeping the manual performance car alive.

I think that if you're spending usd$50k+ on a quasi performance car you're probably going with a flappy paddle especially if your median age is 40-50 yrs old.

Unless you're a diehard muscle car fan and want a manual Mustang Camaro Challenger then you're not bothered.

At the super high end unless you're into 911 GT3/GT2s then you dont have a choice.

Got disconnected when attempting to join the race. Quite aggravating when I scrambled to actually join it because PD forced the survey on me when trying to enter.

Let's hope they dont use the survey to jump to the same idiotic conclusions like they always do because the survey was implemented to effectively encourage dummy answers.

Qualified around the back (P16), ultimately ended up in P8 because of mutliple T1 shenanigans.

I'm too stubborn to get the 2020 car because I can't be bothered spending the 100k to get what's essentially a dupe with more power and a different torque curve. Maybe when the Daily Workout starts cursing me with like, 10 of these godforsaken things.

Not that I'll use it, but is automatic transmission quicker for this car? Just seen a couple of A+ drivers use it in a lobby and they seemed to get through the fuel better, don't want any more weight in the car than is absolutely necessary at the end!!

That's a bug with this new update - for a lot of players it displays as AT when spectating or on replay, but most/all are using manual.

My only question about the Supra Cup is, who the hell takes their nearly 400hp, 100k sports car to a track, with the equivalent of Sports Hard Tires on it?

I like the idea very much. Even though it's been more than 10 years now I remember a particular online race event back in GT5 Prologue where you had to drive a Ford GT on Daytona Road Course - on Road tyres :D (not Sport tyres!) It took some getting used to but once you got the hang of it it was a lot of fun! I know that everybody likes to have grip, but too much of it ruins the fun.

edit: Wow I even found the archived thread in the GTRP forums. It was one of the monthly races of May 2009 (yeah, race events only changed monthly back then).

Had a bit of a break from online racing this week. Going for the race using the 2020 Supra. Not a lot of grip from the tyres should make for an "interesting" race.
Anyone in EMEA, if you get matched with me you can probably pick up a load of DR from my attempt 👍

I had a bunch of fun at Fuji! Qualified 8th (B/S rank), was on course to finish 3rd, then overcooked my braking into the Dunlop chicane on the last lap by a hair, allowing 4th to catch up. Battled through behind him from T11-14. He went wide on T15, I took the chance. Into Panasonic, we were both side by side, but in the heat of the moment, I forgot to drop to 3rd gear and he got me on the exit. I was on his bumper all the way to the finish, taking 4th behind him by 0.2 secs.....but man, that was fun. Even got 1000 DR for the trouble. I don't usually do this well...must be the awesome livery I had that was worth a few extra hp.

Gotta say I do like the stick in my old 4x4 pickup.
If I had the means I’d pickup a stick Mustang GT from a few years back over just about anything.
It’s the street, v8 all the way for a performance vehicle. I’ve never had one, and maybe will never be able to, but that’s what I’d get, either that or a vette.
Gotta have the stick too! Way more engaging!
I’m gonna try some laps in the SOOP RAW but not sure if I’m up to par to race just yet.

My best lap time is 1.56.008, can't get consistency in my lap times though, T1 and T2 I'm happy with and brake point for the last section chicane sorted, rest of the track I'm not so good. Going for it and see what happens.
Anyone pit for tyres or do they last the race ok?
