So, this game has outsold GT6? I did not expect that to happen considering that it's lacking features and an extensive car list...
That shouldn’t be a huge surprise. GT6 released on PS3 after PS4 launched.

GT Sport is a little over 1yr old and PS4’s now around the 90m mark. PS4 still has another 12-18 months as the primary focus of Sony. You’re probably looking at a further 2yr’s on top of that with decent hardware sales.

7,499,999 players to be precise, I have it but I don't play it. Amazingly I find myself contemplating deleting it, I just can't get to the point of enjoying it over other racing games I have.

These numbers are not very reliable, the lower they are the closer they are to the real count of players,GT Sport doesn't have 7 million players,my theory is that 7 million could mean the playerbase is big enough for the game to be sucessiful but again it's not a very reliable number,it could be wrong...

GTSport has reached 6 million players in August 2018 ... so it's highly likely that now it has 7.5 million users ..... "your theory" is completely wrong...

If you never played it then you’re not included in the statistics.

And if you did play it I don’t see why you should be removed from the statistics.

By now, a lot of active players probably made one or several other accounts, be it for racing on other servers, changing team, changing country, having a dedicated FIA account... to be honest, game sales are probably a more reliable metric.

Around 6.73 million profiles have loaded the game up far enough for the trophies to be installed within the profile.

Interestingly, we can also use that number to show that 2.51 million profiles have watched the Racing Etiquette videos that unlock Sport Mode (Master of Manners trophy for this has 37.4% completion).

Well....it's nice to be wrong some times, those are some damn good numbers for GT Sport holy moly

Both have their innacuracies. A lot of people have traded or sold GTS and the second hand copy doesn't count as a sale. There are unknown variables for both methods of estimating total players.

The problem is that we have no reliable games sales data for GTS (or the majority of games for that matter), so while this is not perfect, it does at the very least give us some hard numbers (the number of players is direct from Sony and as such about as accurate a data set as we are likely to get for this).

Yes, I'm from a country that couldn't be included in this year's video, but why should they make it available in more languages?

It generated video for my Czech account without any problems and in English, so it isn't about language, maybe other criteria?

btw. my rarest trophy have earned only 98 players and it's from Assetto Corsa :D.

Thanks.

Just checking that's one of the 0.1% trophys so might not be 100% accurate, but would work out as 98,000 players for AC.

I will add it to the list as a provisional one.

As always. Hopefully we get sales info from PD at some point. GTS should end at 7-8 million sold. Probably the best selling racer of the generation bar Mario Kart.

Second hand has never counted.

Because it renders as changing hands / ownership, not additional playerbase.

It does count as additional playerbase for the "total players" figure, which is what gets boasted about. Really it's just another way that one sold copy can end up creating multiple profiles.

How many more? We don't really know, although back in April when it was indirectly revealed to have sold around 3.3 million we could see that the Kudos figure for players of full game was roughly 30% higher than that sales figure. If that proportion is still vaguely correct, then sales would now be between 4.5 and 5 million (as a very rough estimate).

And NFS2015, Forza Horizon 3

Yeah, it's just a couple million short of Forza Horizon's stats from 5 months ago. Interesting to see such different racing games reaching such high numbers in this day and age. The real shocker is NFS2015, though. Putting to shame anything offered on Xbox or PS4.

I don't think GT can be the behemoth it once was, open world is all everyone likes nowadays and open world racing games have a massive advantage compared to circuit racers.

Yeah, but keep in mind that FH3 has been around for 2 years, and NFS2015 for 3 years(although NFS2015 is likely much, much higher considering that's only PS4.) GTS is looking like it's on the way to be right up there with them. I think this is just a good time for racers, more so than before.

Someone who sold his copy is not a GTS player anymore.

Interesting moment: GTSport could be the only GT this gen and in the eyes of many (including me) GTsport is not a proper GT. Poly probably wants to release another game this gen (more than 86 million PS4 sold ) but there is no point for GT7 on PS4 without major features like rain, night or proper tuning. And a year later, still no weather conditions which make me think Poly can't implement them on PS4.

There is no point in putting another GT this gen,PD is all in on GT Sport till the gen ends and they might continue support for next gen.GT7 will come just not right now.

FTFY.

The article title is written in the present tense, I've played it in the past, but don't now. We're all just statistics at the end of the day.

A player is defined as anyone who has loaded the game to the point where trophy data has been registered. It’s present tense because it’s the current estimate. It doesn’t say anything about how active the players are.

And being on par with other games like Driveclub or Forza Horizon. The constant framerate issue was implicit. They can't simply bring back the weather conditions of GT6, the raindrops and the lack of reflections were bad even for the PS3.
