I maybe hugely biased as I have been to the real race many, many times but I would proposed that the GTS implemention of Le Mans is the best looking real track that I have seen in a sim. I find it truly beautiful and some of the replay footage is so evocative of what I have seen when actually there it is so impressive. I honestly cannot think of another sim implementation of a track that has been done better.

I have sneaked a little video of my driving a GT40 round the track - going under the Dunlop bridge, down Indianapolis and that flying camera after the first Mulsanne are something special. This was the evening version of the track.

Thoughts? Very intesrested to hear if anyone thinks there is a better implementation.

Just watching the cars in the demo before the start of an Arcade race. I heard sirens in the background. Seeing the Marshalls interact with each other down the main straight. Flags waving in the podium.
The track and cars look so cool at NOON 12:00 Cloudy.

I'm not familiar with all of the iterations of the course but I was surprised at how badly they cloned trees for Le Mans on the iRacing version of the course. They didn't even take the time to rotate the trees to at least try to fake that they weren't cloned.

GTS Le Mans is the best in any racing game, and its mainly due to PD's realistic lighting system and great trackside modelling.

As much as many people joke about trees, foliage is one of the biggest reasons sims still look like games. GTS uses many 3D models of trees but whats more important is how the light bounces of these leaves giving it a realistic look even if the tree mesh isn't realistic at all.

Those replay angles help alot,PD's cinematographer did a great job.

" this looks way too gorgeous even by GTSport standards". Many hours shall be spent there.

PD future proofed the track,i bet the high quality assets are ready for the PS5.

It's a beautifully rendered track for sure my only gripe are the smaller nit-picky things. The video that was posted in the OP shows just how rigid everything is. I do wish there was a slight movement of the trees to make the track seem more alive and less static in replays. The movement of the people and the flag wavers helps immensely but I just wish the trees moved a bit. My other issue isn't a problem with PD but more with the PS4, those big huge blocky shadows (as you can see on the GANT sign in the video) are just never going to go away with console games I guess... I hate how these beautiful tracks and cars have these massive blocky shadows smeared over them. It's so hard to look past that... :irked: but I digress, it's a beautiful track for sure.

PD gets a lot of grief for some of the stuff they do but they really need to be applauded for their supreme modeling and attention to detail. It's really one of the big things that makes GT games so special and sets them apart from any other racing game out there.

Great username - one of the best, can't think why

I tried it for the first time today and was stunned how different it felt from the GT5 version I last raced on. The sense of speed I got with this version was just breathtaking.

Sections of the track I use to think were straight, were now a long, constant bend. My breaking points in GT5 were useless now and thanks to me recently upgrading my TV to a LG 43" LCD HDR 4K model and getting a PS4 Pro, it was all running at a much better level than my old, half dead PS4.

For the first time I was able to test my 3 LMP cars ('12 Audi R18 , Toyota TS050 and the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP) and was shocked to find the newer LMP cars were slower on the straights next to the 908. I'm actually grinding in the game again due to this update, as there are now cars and tracks I want to race on. I hope we get many more LMP cars, so we can get a really diverse field online.

Keeping my fingers crossed that we get the Toyota GT1 TS020 , Mercedes CLK-LM, Porsche GT1 and most importantly the Mazda 787B.

What you said on the extra cars - I have the Le Mans 1998 annual right next to me so the GT1 cars are top of a very short list for me!! I was there to watch the Toyota get pole, the Porsche to win and Mark Webber flip the Mercedes into the trees on the straight to Indianapolis - never been in a position before where a 100,000 plus crowd fell completely silent as they watched the screen, thank goodness he was fine and went on to drive F1 and then Porsche. The other Mercs went straight to the pits never to be seen again. All stunning cars.

There is wind movement from flags on the poles and dust.

The things you ask for are taxing for the CPU. Having all the trees move (there's a lot, and you would also need to consider parts of each tree in the animation) with respect to some kind of simple physics model will bring a performance hit.

The lighting is a consequence of PD using a real time system.

Quoto absolutely and in an old interview of kaz on GT5 it seems to me that he had said that he wanted the trees to move with the wind or to flit leaves for the track as well as wanting animals around the track.
For the last 2 points something they did in autumnring on gt6 and birds and kangaroos and dust on GTS.
With the next generation I think they will have enough power to add and fix other details of this kind.

The circuit unarguably looks the part. It is beautiful and there are many terrific touches.

I love the way you can hear regular traffic as you approach Tetre Rouge, coming from the dual carriageway to the left which is still open during the real event.
The Tricolore fly-by at the beginning of the Endurance event looks fantastic. Also, I really like the dust being kicked up when you run too far off line.

One area where I think the GT6 build was superior is the road surface itself. It is now too smooth and I miss not having the cars rattle around as you hammer it down toward Mulsanne.

There's no escaping the lack of night driving either.

The smooth is discussed in the main update thread - highly likely realistic then and now due to new tarmac between versions.

I think the GT cars from '97 to '00 were some of the best looking cars done for Le Mans. It was because of the Merc flipping, that they now have the open square on the wheel arches now.

I will be honest, the Toyota TS020 has been a favourite of mine since GT2 back in the early 2000's. It would be between the Toyota , Porsche GT1 and the Mazda 787B that I would want as the next. LMP car. It's my favourite class to race online in any of the last few games and it is so promising to see PD pick out some real gems so far!

It looks pretty good but I'm not blown away, and PD did not add the public road signs showing directions to nearby towns. These were in GT6.

This track is glitched, the spectators don't move on ANY of the grandstands. they are just frozen in place, it's quite creepy .
No 3d trees all the buildings on the side are low res 2d textures.
that being said the lighting is amazing

The spectators don't move? Much better! ;)

Just watched the replay, it was jaw-dropping to look at, and...

....THE BIRDS CHRIPING AHHHHHGGH!!!1

I still think that Project CARS 2 is a better version of the track surface. That was scanned before the whole thing got repaved so the bumps are still present because they reused the asset from 1. It makes for a more interesting experience, I suppose. Without a doubt this looks miles better than that version, but it still feels strange almost gliding over certain sections that I know should be giving my suspension a tougher time. Even the earlier GT6 version was bumpier. Just something to get used to I guess.

Meanwhile, feast your eyes on a smaller version of my computer's current screensaver that I took.
