GT Sport Le Mans - the best realistion of a sim track ever?

Custom race Arcade keeps giving me the Hyundai and McLaren as rivals. I'm trying to do a 3 car race with the C9 and Jag. Five attempts at set up, just not going to happen in Arcade Mode.

The smooth is discussed in the main update thread - highly likely realistic then and now due to new tarmac between versions.
As rough as the surface may have been before, there is no way it was as bad as it was in the games. The bumps and dips were painfully exaggerated all the way up to GT6. The easiest example that sticks in my mind is the exit of the first chicane on the Mulsanne. There is a dip where the left side of the car drops about half a foot or more. I watch real race footage and the cars don't move at all as they exit.

I'm so happy that the track is actually smooth now. And indeed it is a very beautiful place to be driving.

I'm not familiar with all of the iterations of the course but I was surprised at how badly they cloned trees for Le Mans on the iRacing version of the course. They didn't even take the time to rotate the trees to at least try to fake that they weren't cloned.

I have noticed that PD did the same thing on Brands Hatch. Some areas where the trees weren't even rotated, just cloned in a row. A track like Brands doesn't deserve that. I'm glad that Le Mans has been given such good treatment, but I wish all tracks got that level of attention.

Wow yeah, it looks sooo cool and amazing, the real screenshot simulator at it´s best :)
But how about driving? Is driving important in the "real driving simulator" ?? LOL

I think it's missing something.... the smell of the toilets at Beausejour wafting over the Porsche Curves

I'm not a big fan of the circuit personally but it is a good recreation of it. I like the dust kicked up when off line down the straight.

The movement of the people and the flag wavers helps immensely but I just wish the trees moved a bit.

Speaking of which, did they change something about the flag waivers recently? I've noticed them a lot more easily last night on Tsukuba and I never remembered that sides of the walls bustling with activity like that before.

I still think that Project CARS 2 is a better version of the track surface. That was scanned before the whole thing got repaved so the bumps are still present because they reused the asset from 1.

If PD was every trying to think up a gimmick for a GT7 it would be multiple generational iterations of courses. Exhume the deadliest iterations of these classic courses and give us a historic single player campaign. I'd totally pay full price for that sort of effort.

I maybe hugely biased as I have been to the real race many, many times but I would proposed that the GTS implemention of Le Mans is the best looking real track that I have seen in a sim. I find it truly beautiful and some of the replay footage is so evocative of what I have seen when actually there it is so impressive. I honestly cannot think of another sim implementation of a track that has been done better.

I have sneaked a little video of my driving a GT40 round the track - going under the Dunlop bridge, down Indianapolis and that flying camera after the first Mulsanne are something special. This was the evening version of the track.

Thoughts? Very intesrested to hear if anyone thinks there is a better implementation.

Ha, absolutely not. The surface isn't even realistic, it is good as far as console standards. IRacing and Assetto Corsa are the best of all the Sims.

Anybody know why the Michelin timing tower is not there during Time Trial at Circuit de la Sarthe? Only noticed it last night after about 300km of TT driving.

Probably for the same reason that spectators and spectator big screens aren't visible in time trial mode, but it's odd how the timing tower gets removed. It looks like a permanent structure.

I thought I seen a post on here that said the track surface at LaMans had been repaved. I do not know if this is true or not but if it is that would explain why it's smoother now.

For comparison I grabbed the specs of their current track scanning equipment. Polyphony uses a GLS 1500 while iRacing uses a Leica ScanStation. Specs below

I had to upload a screenshot of the flyer for the ScanStation.

One thing that makes it hard for me to truly appreciate GT Sport graphics is my recent venture into the world of Assetto Corsa. The latter puts graphical detail into asphalt and kerbs textures to an extent where the track surfaces in GT Sport look dull in comparison. No doubt that GT Sport has more photo realism going for it when looking at the environments overall, but the surface textures in GT Sport are off-putting after having experienced the immersion of Assetto Corsa in cockpit view.

I don't normally do wish lists, but I hoping the Bugatti Circuit comes to the game, and a night setting does seem like a pretty big missed opportunity.

Hopefully the Nurburgring GP course has set a precedent of procuring the GP layout from larger endurance courses.

Such a shame that the bumpy road surface has gone, I loved that. Maybe they can include older versions of the track like in GT6; they had 2005, 2009, & 2013 I think.

The asphalt is beautiful. The sidewalks are good. The lighting is perfect.

But the external sector, the environment, the grass, are ridiculously hideous and unfinished.

At the start of Musanne, on the right side, in the Stadium, and on the left side, they are very ugly structures. The grass looks like a billiard game floor. The scenery is taciturn, dead and desert. Does not look organic, realistic! PS3 graphics.

Is the engine old? I do not know. Nordcheleife, for me, is the best graphics circuit.

I have the impression that PD stopped in time in producing circuits. Is weird! Some games feature better graphics in building scenarios, such as Forza.

Maybe the track is redone in real life to make it smooth ? Do you guy ever think about that ?
I have thought about that. It was in the first sentence of my post. Here.
As rough as the surface may have been before...
This indicates that I'm well aware that the real circuit had a different surface in the past.
...there is no way it was as bad as it was in the games.
This continues on that thought, but it shows that I believe the games still had an exaggerated effect when compared to that old surface.

The footage I was refering to was the 1999 race. I know the track was bumpy before, but it wasn't as bad as past Gran Turismo games would emulate. Hope this doesn't come off as snarky.
