It's not perfect but I'm really liking it, it needs more content but I happy with the direction to game is going.

For me it's the lack of tracks, that's the most important part when it comes to the longevity of a racing game. I can forgive the lack cars, mostly because a game could have 1000 cars but I would still only use 20-30 of them. Looking back on FM - which I played for nearly the past 10 years - hundreds of cars in the game is good on paper and nice to look at but they all feel relatively the same. All those cars coupled with the upgrading system makes them only feel like shells with no individuality other than looks. I owned and played GT1-6 and FM2-6 and I can honestly that style of game is very cliche and boring to me at this point

I came back to PS for this game, and i'm glad I did. I think if they would have went with another car collecting game I doubt I would be back after a long break from this series.
I think I would be more open to the direction of the series if they had not removed the customization aspect of the game, at least the aesthetic side of things. I much prefer road cars over race cars, and making them mine at that. The removal of that in this game is probably the biggest current gripe I have. I much prefer the direction the series used to have, and the current direction of Forza, than the one GTS and Pcars2 follow.

I'm not sure why'd you have to continuously state that you've played Forza for x amount of years though lol.

There may not be many cars to choose from (for your own personal taste) but to me the Gr 4, Gr 3, etc cars are well done and you still get a sense of ownership from said cars. Also, there is a livery editor you know...

Sounds like FM7 is more your game tbh.

I bring up Forza because I give my perspective as someone who has played these games for a long time. I didn't start on PS3 like many of the other people complaining about GTS. You wonder why GT went in this direction, it's for people like me who are bored of the same old thing that has been done many times before by multiple developers.

I'm not necessarly concerned about the amount of cars in the game, it's fine to be honest, and more will be added. My sense of ownership derived from the deep customization that the game had before, but that's gone. Livery editor is neither here nor there for me, I didn't use it in Forza, and depending on how restricted we are with the importing feature, I likely wont use it here. Like I noted though, it all depends on the restrictions of it.

Most likely, however, that's not to say that I don't like all of GTS.

Pretend Race Cars is literally sponsored by SMS for his short track speedway exploits. And his reviews of anything that isn't PCARS and is a big sim title leans towards PCARS.

Also, he really hates iRacing.

tbf he literally sung high praises for F1 2017.

By "deep customization" I can only assume you mean buying and adding parts, which is fair enough. But theres is only so much depth in adding performance parts. For me the fun is in doing actual setup work, could not care less if I can't buy the good ol' stage 4 turbo upgrade anymore.

No, I mean every aspect of customization that was available to us in the past. It may have not been for every single car, but I very much had a lot more interest in those that did.

For me, my fun comes from both sides of that.

GTS has upgrading, but not by purchasing parts but by changing customizable trans, and upgrading power, changing tires, ect. you can also use the pit crew to change out tires and refuel and ect.

I can't think of better examples of why extremes — at both ends — should be ignored.

The language in both is so obviously one-sided. And at least one of them is literally on the payroll of another developer.
Exactly.

Here's the proof, from May of this year, that PRC.net is on the payroll of SMS:

https://pretendracecars.net/2017/03/21/introducing-the-2-slightly-mad-studios-chevrolet-ss/

As a result, anything the site says should either be straight up ignored, or taken with a massive box of salt.
All reviews should be taken with a pinch of salt, not just the ones that challenge you bias.

what customizations are you missing in particular?

Right now i'm very happy with the game. In fact, firstly i didn't have planned to buy the game, maybe in Christmas, but i really like the demo and i preordered it. My first impressions are this:
The graphics looks very good for a PS4, i still think that Driveclub is better but we can see a good evolution since GT6.
The cars are incredibly detailed, but the list is small imo. I think that they should add more street and older cars and then race cars.
The tracks feels very realistic, as the car list, a little bit short.
With the physics i'm very surprised. It feels awesome for me, i'm really excited to try the game the next week with the T150.
In general, the other aspects of the game are very good, the scapes, the driving academy... It have the Gran Turismo esence.
I will expand my opinion the next week when i will play more.

Exactly.

And I already do that. But PRC is very unabashedly pro-SMS due to prior events. Is that not a massive problem due to conflict of interest?

FWIW, I don't have the same reservations about GTP considering that you can keep the fanboyism with regards to GT seperate. Something PRC does not.

Every site has the potential for bias, allegations of paid for reviews, threats by publishers not to supply review copies of future titles unless they get positive coverage, etc are rife in the industry.

Which is why all should be taken with a pinch of salt, and all are potentially capable of containing valid points regardless of the bias.

From what I've played in the beta and demo -- I'll give this game a 9/10. I think it's the best Gran Turismo game. Maybe not in terms of bang for your buck, but it's the most fun I've had in the series from the get go. If the servers hold up with no mega sized updates alongside a healthy post launch plan then it can be a 9.5 easily.

Isn't this the thread for reviews of the full game?

I agree. I put much more weight into some of the more respected members here, positive and negative, than those reviews from gamesites. One reason being that I feel some here have a better understanding of things than what some of those reviewers do, and know what to look into.

I agree about the reviews from game sites

but not reviews in a forum
All I have been seeing here about reviews is personal gripes.

More trustworthy reviews come from those who tell what stands out in a game for a positive review or tell people about real problems with the game for a negative.

Oh, so what people have been doing here, for the most part. Gotcha.

The "Best Bang For The Buck" doesn't always mean quantity only, you also have to consider quality. although GTS don't have 1200 cars doesn't mean it don't have components to make it a full game. 5 1dollar burgers or 1 big juicy steak? take a pick

The demo has pretty much everything already. I mostly judge racers by the on track action (hence why I liked DC from the start).
So your review is not based on the release version of the game I take it?
