GT4 License Tests: I Give Up

Getting gold in the coffee breaks doesn't affect the number of golds that show up in your game status, and doesn't affect getting all gold tests for a license (the coffee breaks are not tests), and doesn't affect getting the all gold prize car.

As for 100%, it gives you a black F1 car. A little disappointing seeing as the F1 car can also be won elsewhere (Nurburgring 24 hours). If you can't get all gold licenses you could aim for 100% completion, but frankly if you have the time to get 100% completion, you have more than enough time to practise and easily gold the licenses. 100% completion is easier than getting gold licenses in driving terms, but it takes a lot longer!

You seem to have forgotten that Mission 34 is required for 100% completion, so for NTSC players I'd say 100% is harder in terms of driving (although not THAT much harder, since we'd all finish the missions a lot faster if it weren't for the wait on the Magics).

O.K. you all must be doing something wrong. I didn't think I was a particularly good GT driver until I started reading this post. you only have to roll around and finish to get bronze, and gold really aren't that hard. I had all gold after having the game for 2 days, and thats not playing constantly, just when I had time. I have to say that the coffee break number 4 (IA) is the hardest god damn thing in this game and it doesn't count towards anything and I still got it eventually. The last coffee break was also tough, but I eventually got gold by 13 seconds, yes 13 not 1.3. I was 0.5 off consistently for about a dozen attempts and all of a sudden... bam. then we move onto the missions. these are so damn easy its a joke. apparently the NTSC version has 8 seconds additional penalty on 34 but I can win by more than that so I don't feel too bad.

I firmly believe that these licence tests make you a much better driver in the game. every time your in a race and you come up to that section in the track that you spent forever trying to perfect, you know it like the back of your hand and destroy the AI.

just keep practising, adjust your style. maybe go back to the national a & b and do the licences with the guide line on (push R3). it will give you a good idea of how the cars need to be driven to get gold, and because you can use it as you race its better than watching demos. keep at it and remember, the only one you're cheating is yourself. its like cheating at solitair.

I'm finding the S-Licences impossible, on the demo of the Amalfi course the car clings to the road, it never jumps or skids when I try it the car is all over the place and I have to slow right down to control it, I was 8 seconds outside of a bronze.

I get right the way through the course then the car suddenly decides it wants to spin out or I skim against a cone, they made this far too hard.

I couldn't believe how easy they were. Did anybody else find these test easier than the GT3 ones? I did most of them first time through, although i have had a couple of weeks of practice. Just try to get used to the game a bit, then do the S licence, its easier than you think.

What neilX said but with clarifications:

1) You can import B License, A License, and up to 100,000 credits all from a GT3 save. It does not have to be Prologue.
2) You can ONLY do so at the very start of your GT4 game.

I don't think that it is possible to import the licenses in the PAL version, you can import the credits, but would you want too? I think this feature could ruin the whole point of the game, You are supposed to start with very little, its all part of the fun.

I'm glad they made some of the stuff as 'difficult' as they did. I went back last night to get rid of alot of those ugly bronze medal and trade them in for golds! I did all of B and A and am 2 away from doing Ib and 3 away from finishing Ia. Even got a couple of golds on some of the S license tests! After playing through the game for so long I've gotten a mich better "feel" for the game and my patience has grown alot more!

Awesome work Deondre, I really admrie your patience and skill. I'm gonna try my best to tackle these liscense tests and be patient at it, too.
Only problem is I'm in the final weeks of my Uni. semester, so I'm flooded with papers and exams, so I'll try them as soon as I'm free!!!!! In'Sh'allah.

I am stuck with IA15. The E190 chasing the Skyline GTR pace / guide car...

I several times chased the sucker for 8 minutes and then mistakenly overtook the jacka$$ being disqualified !!

I am just too much into racing and cannot stop the urge to overtake when I am so deeply concentrated into catching up with the sucker... Moreover, the Skyline holds such a ridiculous line that when you follow its tracks you are sure to end up in the greens or the barriers !! :ill:

And worst of all I could not manage importing my licenses from the GT3 save...

HEEELLLLPPPPPP !! :nervous:

Sorry I forgot; could anyone guide me thru to import my licenses from my GT3 save ? It is said everywhere that you can import 100K Credits and licenses. I got the 100 K alright but not the licenses...

Please help... thanks !

Hey my bad for giving bad info regarding PAL versus NTSC. i only know what's in my American disc, sorry all. :)

People you must do what works for you. Life is too short to tussle unduly; plus, Forza will be out next month.

Some people simply cannot get the licenses. For whatever reason. To them, I say one thing: cHeAtDeViCeS = relief.

Now, if you insist on self-punishment and enjoy the sound of your head smacking against a brick wall, then you know what i'm going to say dont ya? :)

Knock yourself out.

Sorry LOL, i kill me :D

Yeah, I started out "pure." :) I earned all my licenses first, then just jumped to that special conditions special thingy where you could get 256K is it? for the race. lol, So yeah, in a way you could say that I still cheated. :ill:

But see, I don't need to climb this ladder again. The game is a gem; the gameplay is abject tedium, and boring as hell to tell you the truth. I already climbed the ladder with GT1 & GT2. Earning another 3500 credit for an upgraded muffler. Earning another 1500 cred for a carbon driveshaft and going "ooh wow look i'm 3 mph faster in teh straights, oh my freaking GOD!" :)

That was cool like FIVE and SIX YEARS AGO but some of us oldsters find it all very old.

So anyways, back to my story: It wasn't long before I moved on to my trusty Codebreaker 9.0 and used the "Have All Cars Purchasable for $1" cheat. That ROX. 👍

So now, I can enjoy the distraction of a 900HP Jay Leno Tank Car on Le Sarthe [which is Le Mans, btw; now there's your 'Coffee Break' son! whilst still pursuing Mission 11.

Mission 11 is STILL kicking my ass. LOL But I'm only .409 seconds off, so... i'll get it.

modik: Advice on IA15
If you're into GT and have done it before, then bronzing all these licenses is really, really easy, mate. Just slow down and take your time and practice. The Nurburgring can seem intimidating to the newbie because of its length. But the bronzes have such a forgiving cushion built into their times that all you have to do is drive deliberately, watch that flashing red number over your gear, and BRAKE, BRAKE, BRAKE.

Also, do not CHASE your pace car. That's the wrong mindset. lol.. :) Just watch him and copy his line; use the telemetry (route) he is laying out before you to your advantage.

Practice and just take you time on this one and you will win.

Yeah supposedly there is an extra 8 seconds wait in NTSC. I did Mission 34 with an extra 8 second wait to try and make it the same, and I won by 4.075 seconds. I really don't think the requirement for driving fast is any harder than for gold on S16. What makes M34 harder than S16 is the necessity to pass the AI cars, and do so without losing loads of time or getting one of those dumb penalties.

I consider M34 to be equivalent to golding S16 (7:07.700 version), except with overtaking.

:D I wiped my 38% save and started again (made some poor car purchases! i.e A Skyline) and decided to get all gold in the licences, well after some B*****d tests (those REALLY CRAPPY Skyline ones) I got em all, I am now at peace with myself, time to start racing! :)

Nurburgring  I ADORE it!

 Why would they make it 8 seconds harder for NTSC people ?

Super License test CHAMONIX Rally will be the DEATH OF ME!!!!! :scared:
I have it licked...all the way through...until I always let the backend slide out too much on that last corner. ARRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!

neilX
You can't.
If you have a GT3 save, you can go into the Status screen in your Garage and import a limited amount of money from GT3.

If you have GT4 Prologue, you can get passes for just the National A & B licenses, but you don't get the prize cars.
Thanks so much

not to discourage anyone, but i got about 9 of the super liscenses within 5 tries :sly: i got the seattle one with the ford on my very first try :sly: the bently one on my second or third try. and the lapland one with the hyundai on my second try. by far the hardest one was chamonix with the peugeot for me. i spent a couple hours getting my 7:01 on s16 though.

and as for the missions..theyre just too damn easy:odd:. there are only 4 challenging ones. the final mission and the slipstream skyline one are obviously the hardest. only two other missions took me more than half an hour: the beetle one and opera paris with the clio. i expect half the missions to be as hard as the latter, and the other half the former. most are A liscense level:odd:.

oh right, dont give completely, give the tests a rest and keep doing races again. do free runs, race in arcade mode. what makes you think you can do a super liscense test if you cant pass super liscense :odd: play to enjoy primarily. you being prevented form higher order races shouldnt prevent you from enjoying GT4 :sly:

Not to go off-topic, but define "too easy." I know it's "diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks," but what's "too easy" when it comes to a GT game? GT4 is about as challenging as you can get. You can still get away with a few old-school tricks, but don't tell me "too easy." The Chamonix time trial p*ssed off your's truly with that loud and twitchy Peugeot 205 rally machine (1985 version, I believe). The Audi R8 Super License test is just like the Super License Final from GT3, only thing is that instead of Monte Carlo, it's Sears Point/Infineon Raceway. And let me tell you. Hardly ever do I say "too easy" about almost anything in a GT game. It's only too easy if a child can play GT4 and gold EVERY SINGLE TEST.

But other than that, they are still a challenge. If you're not ready to take these challenges head-on for glory, you're in for some trouble down the road. Remember this closing quote as your mantra for success:

"Play hard or go home."

surprisingly
i thought GT4's license test wasn't that hard
although some of them took me a while to pass
generally speaking, they aren't that bad...

i still remember when i used to play GT1
license tests....yeah.... - -

I thought that too, they were suprisingly easy compared to GT3. On GT3 i got no golds at all but on GT4 i got about 10. I also managed to get my S license

too easy means i get them very quickly, im giving my opinion. but then again, it was like walking through back in my gt2 and gt3 days, not to mention my gt1 days when i was like 10 years old. i didnt get s single gold. so this is like my long term glory. to compare the audi trial to the gt one trial from gt3 would be fair. that one was ironically the easiest for me (the pennzoil gave me the most trouble :indiff: )
mission 23 and the final one is the type of challange im after, but theres not enough of it. online play would be my true home.

"Wakeem" can kiss my arse. You disgust me. {<--lol *only kidding* I'm jealous. :)}

MISSION 11
Well I have determined that I'm not putting in enough time every day to really hone my skills. I am still that mythical ".409" seconds away from passing it.

I am, however, starting to run low on my excuses. You know. Excuses. Like, "just use a Codebreaker 9.0 and don't take it so damned seriously," etc.

Well you know what? If you want to get good at something, sometimes you HAVE to get serious. That what I'm realizing, for me. The guy who said "becoming good can conflict with having fun" or something like that, he was right.

Wow, I really like JohnBM01's post. Tells it like it is.

That's going in my sig.

p.s. Oh. i've been working this Mission 11 off n' on now for A MONTH! Yet I passed all my licenses inside one week? Truly an oddity, given all these people who are making the S License sound like it's unattainable. Bronzing these was really no big deal for me. Strange.

I guess it shows to go how much our experiences can vary.

I appreciate that, GuyNamedJohn. Of course, "Play Hard or Go Home" would also be suitable for a signature.

I think I redid that Skyline test in the IA Licenses where you tackled Fuji 90s' "B" corner. Redid it for a bit, and I upgraded from bronze to silver after a few tries. This is why I state that after you do some races and win them, try going back and doing better. There is always room for improvement. You're only as good as you say you are, so try to go for bigger and better things as a GT racer. If you can dig that, I'll be on my way.

wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaargh! i just did the guided lap round the ring in 9:00.064...thats 0.064 seconds to slow for gold....aaaargh i just bit a huge piece out of my wheel.

i would be much quicker if the damn pacecar wasn't in my way all the time...i always have to brake hard to avoid it... 👎

well i am a ring nut anyway, i don't mind an extra lap round the green hell. :D

edit:
second try: 8:53.791.

i do't think the tests are too hard. i got most of the NB, NA and IB tests in gold after 2-5 tries, except for some odds and the rallye ones. IA is a little bit more tough though.

👍 Congratulations on your second try, vlad.

There are ppl who envy you, ya know. :)

Well just for the record, I passed Mission 11 today. The most surprising thing was how definitively anticlimactic it was when I did it. I mean, I felt good and all, but truthfully I am just ready to move on and do other things in the game that are FUN for me. :)

Oh, and is there some date bug in this thing??? (obviously i havent checked the bug thread) It hasn't been a whole "month" like I thought it was.

The dates of replay saves are just all screwy.

Hey, if I could do it, you can too. I even got a gold on S-14! Don't know how, probably through sheer dumb luck (and maybe a little wallriding). Don't give in yet. I passed the S-16 first try. I didn't even get GT3's S license.

Though I DESPISE the missions (the ones after 10 anyway) i quite like the license tests. I'm not one to go for gold, i'm satisfied with bronze, at least on the international and special licenses.

All tests took less than 10 minutes to get a bronze barring S14, which took me two hours. Lousy chamonix.

In a separate missions thread i have been gleaming hints, but 1-10 took less than 15minutes each, and ive done three of the 25-29 series, taking between 10 and 110 minutes. Been trying at infineon for two hours so far, with no win in sight...

heck, the only time i failed any of those lisence tests was because i went of the course or i hit a the pacecar. very few were due to poor time results. and im not an expert driver eaither. just take your time at doing it

I actually feel I-A to be easier than the I-B.

Damn the slalom test in I-B which I cannot drive with my DS2.... :grumpy:

Only problem with I-A is the last test where I can't modulate the throttle properly yet. Once I got it, I'll get the Dome JGTC car!!! :)
