I went in the grass about 3 times: overshot Flugplatz a bit, overshot the first tight turn at Kesselchen (lost a good few seconds of time), and then had some stability issues on the final straight causing me to go in the grass for a bit there as well.

I have no reason to make up any times here. You will see soon enough after I post the video.

also - I'm not trying to do any "chest pounding" here - this is a thread for the best laptimes @ Nurburgring, is it not? I mentioned mine, and someone doubted me. I offered proof, that is all.

I will add pictures as attachments in the future. The only reason I posted them is because someone called me out.

regards,

srika aka delobbo

If you "went into the grass" then your lap is void. It means nothing, other than to you. Anyone can run a fast dirty lap. I wouldn't recommend talking about any laptime you have that has track-offs....nor would I try to submit it to a hotlap database.

Frankly, I'm not trying to be a jerk, if you want to submit any laps to this leaderboard I'll require a replay file or video (camera angle set to follow) since you have openly admited to running a dirty lap and then discussing the time on here where it is assumed by everyone else that it is clean. It won't be just here you get that treatment but any OLR hotlap database/leaderboard on any GT site....

Please remove the large images or scale them down, I don't want to have to ask again.

You are wrong this thread is to discuss the leaderboard posted on the first page. There are other threads in the "GT4" forum to discuss the 'Ring in general....

Not trying to be a jerk here, just trying to keep this thread related to it's purpose....

WTF is a passcode? And what do you do with it?

Oh yeah...that's flippin fast.

passcode is proof of running a time. I don't know how it is used, but at the big GT4 league sites, they will ask for the passcode, it is proof that you ran a certain time. Again I don't know how it works but sites such as http://www.gt4ireland.com/ use it as an official means of verifying laptimes, somehow.

In all my years of OLR I have never ever seen a "passcode" related to GT (Gt2, Gt2, Gt4), that isn't using a cheat device, nor have I ever seen it in game...ever!

How do you display this "passcode" and what does it prove?

Help me, I don't understand.

EDIT: I read the instructions on the site you linked to...I've never ever heard of that or seen anyone anywhere use that....and I've been OLR'ing for years.

fine. I will be back after I've run BETTER than 5:57 in the Supra, without going in the grass. :)

Like I said, if you want to submit it to this leaderboard I will need to see a video of your lap from the follow view. Or preferably a MAX drive or x-port/sharkport reply file (I have the NTSC-J copy, if you have another version of the game I'll need to find someone else to verify your lap)

from the link I posted above, http://www.gt4ireland.com/ -

- To view your fastest lap times go to the Nürburgring circuit and check out the Ranking Screen.

- Press the START button on the lap that corresponds to your fastest time for driving (the Nissan 350Z). Your unique 32 digit PASSCODE will then be displayed. Each PASSCODE is split into four blocks of eight digits, so be sure to note them down carefully.

- Use your 32 digit code to register your time.

it's a done deal. I will post an MPG or AVI file video of the run from follow view.

Yes, I read that...

But it still proves nothing. it works for the purpose of that contest but it doesn't prove, or show, if you ran the lap clean...or does it?

OLR is concerned with speed AND clean laps.

If part of the code was saying the car ran always with at least 2 wheels on the track and didn't hit anything (walls, rails, etc) now THAT would be useful. It would save alot of trouble for OLR'ers.

I doubt it has any way of showing whether you rammed every wall and cut every piece of grass possible or if you had a 100% clean lap (as you would in real life). So in final analysis, I'm not sure WHAT the passcode is for.

I had a question about the "at least 2 wheels on the track" criteria. Is it ok to go completely airborne before Flugplatz, as long as you are still "on" the track?

srika

Two wheels on the track refers to cornering. Places where the car is airborne, like the Flugplatz or Seattle are fine, that is considered on track.

OLR rules require you to have at least two wheels on the circuit at all times, minus jumps and rollers.

Read these rules for a sense of OLR rules related to GT4 and photos of what is allowed and not allowed.

I've been looking around this site and the web in general and found some references to passcodes (did you know they were in since Gt3? No? No one else did either...). No one seems to know what they are good for and what they refer specifically too....

btw - just an afterthought.... do you think you can run a faster "dirty" lap than a clean lap at the Ring? What I mean is, do you think you can run FASTER at the Ring by going in the grass and hitting walls??? I have no reason to believe you can. Going in the grass or hitting walls at the Ring SLOW YOU DOWN. Which is why I am telling you now, when I run a 100% clean lap, it will be faster than 5:57... food for thought.

It's different with a track like Fuji - the version where you can cut through the chicane and straight through - yeah there you can cut SECONDS off your time. Or, at La Sarthe you can cut the chicanes and run much faster. You can't do this at the Ring. You will lose time.

again, this is just an afterthought. I am not trying to justify anything.

ok that is good info. good link. I fully understand now, what I must do. :) I won't have a chance to race the Ring again until Monday, in case you were wondering. 👍

Yes, you can. You can cut a few chicanes, use the rail on the karousell and a few other places and take a wider (faster) line on a few other corners. On many corners on the Nordschleife putting all 4 wheels off, the inner wheels being just off of the curbing you can take a much faster line...

As much as 5-10 seconds I think....if you do it right.

Not every car will be faster that way. AWDs and cars with high grip will though....

But, regardless if it is faster or not...but now allowing "offs" in OLR it avoids the whole subjective'ness of having to say what is a good off and what is a bad off.

ok, I've never tried doing any of those things (no need to) so I had no idea. :)

Nor have I...but having spent so much time on the 'Ring, I can see the exact areas where one could gain considerable time if one didn't care about a clean lap....not to mention when racing other cars (the AI) and using them as brakes or moving walls to help get around corners (that counts too BTW).

Just getting back here since my picture post. (sorry kensei, I edited it)

delobbo, yes, you can go faster by not racing cleanly.
There are a couple places where if you don't slow at all and run into a wall or over the grass it will substantially improve your time. Not to mention the fact that you are usually more careful when trying to keep it clean and this lowers your lap time, even more so on a long tough track like this. That is what makes a fast clean time so remarkable here. It is difficult to run clean here, let alone fast and clean.

you're "preaching to the choir" - I know exactly what you mean, in regard to the challenge of running a totally clean lap. I've been on a quest for a perfect, hard lap @ the Ring for a while now.

hey kensei, i think you should set up a hot lap database for la sarthe. or if you can't someone should (i would, if doing this sort of thing wasn't a hassle, what ith having tons of lap times coming in every day. i just couldn't handle it!!!!)

Not me, I have no interest in La Sarthe.....

All times are updated, RE: PMs I got over last week. Sorry for the delay.

id like to see the 5'55.xx in the GTR video. Ive done a 6 flat in the C5R and thats much faster than the GTR and it was a pretty clean lap you might be able to squeeze a few seconds out of it but it would be in settings and getting brave. Im pretty damn sure you cant do a 5'55 in the M3 gtr with full tune. 6'09 is fast with 700hp. I need to see that lap to believe it. Especially since your times just appear and your teh fastest in two classes. Prototypes and GT cars. If you posted videos already please give me a link otherwise get one ready.

I have a sarthe db up, but no one submitted any times. im gonna change it up this week to be just like this, because that is a challenging track and you might get an advantage in GT mode over arcade unlike the ring. since in gt mode the car is slightly more realistic

You are on R1's, he is on R5's.

I've taken my fully modified RX-7 Spirit street car under 6 minutes now (one tiny off so I didn't submit it), I don't see why a race car would have any problems running similar times because they have much better grip even though they might be a little short on HP.

I'll go try out the M3 and report back. ;)

2nd lap 6'12.001 and the car is soooo awesome to drive. Has incredible grip. 👍

Clean lap until I went 4 off on the 3rd to the last turn (cost me a second or 2 at least - was still going a touch too fast from the long straight). Also had a couple small errors that cost me a couple seconds to gather the car back up, but I didn't go off, just had to slow more than usual. I bet I could get it down to around a 6'05 clean w/o too much trouble. I'm pretty sure a better driver that knows the track better than me could run a 5'55.

I was going to try the C5R also, but I can't find it in Arcade mode?

Ran a 5:13 with Nissan 89C - full downforce, legal lap (although fairly scary) nitrous set to 48, stock susp setting, manual transmission, GT4 wheel, traction control as stock, changed the gear to longest possible - I think it was 25 on the setting...

well I got it down to 5:58.332 in the Supra RZ, a clean lap. still room for more, but damn it's tough to do a totally clean hot lap.

I would be happy to post a video of the 5'55.xxx lap that I have posted with the BMW M3 GTR Race Car. I just need to figure out how to get the video onto my system through the camcorder. BTW, it is Arcade Mode, Max HP, Min Weight and R5 Tires. When you see the video (may take a couple days for me to figure out) you will see there is room left to spare.

Unfortunatley I don't have the video of the 4'58.001 with the Minolta, but I could always try it again.

If you have any tips on how I can accomplish getting the video off let me know.

Ball325 and everyone.

here you go.

BMW M3 GTR Lap of Nurburgring

Please be sure to save this to disk instead of trying to view it directly from the page. I am not sure how long it will last before .Mac will kill the page.

Video is 320x240, I removed the sound. The quality is not great as I just played the replay on my TV and recorded it with the camera pointed at it.

4'58.985

Toyota Minolta 89'

Tcs on, asm off, max hp, min weight, 430km max speed, manual transmission, ds2.

anyone beat that?
