Ohh...I'm so close to this time with almost the same setup...was running on super soft racing tires though!

I am running with SuperSoft Racing Tires (RSS). I guess people state them as R5, but on the page before you start it shows them as RSS.

I know that it is possible to get another 3-4 seconds minimum. I just need to push it a little harder on some of the turns. Also, this is without modifying the top speed of the vehicle at all. I didn't modify the top speed for two reasons, one it is not in the spirit of Arcade Mode, and 2 the car doesn't seem to reach top speed anyway.

Am I right in stating that Arcade Mode with SuperSoft Tires is the same as Gran Turismo Mode with SuperSoft Tires.

Let me know if you beat this time as I will have to try again if you do :)

You know guys....you are free to post your times in this thread, but if you want them on the leaderboard you need to PM them to me. I don't read this thread often so I don't see them.

Everything is updated from what PMs I had. Also please read the message posted by me about laptime verification, I received a few PMs this week about that issue and wanted to clear it up.

I was able to run in 4"58 - 5"02 many times in my R89C, witouth the need of NOS.

I recorded the replay of a lap in 5"01.616 but it´s not what i want. I can turn into 4"59 or 58, shall do it later.

I have the replay video here tho, for who wants it. The lap was good overall, and can be down by about 3 seconds.

BTW, i got the minolta today, and, for some 3 or 4 times, as i tested few, almost geting a lap of 4"55 or even further...that car is insane....and pretty good at driving and cornering. :D

BTW, i am gonna do a lap with it and record a replay video. I hope to get into 4"54. :D

It´s also fun because after some hours playing with such super cars, everything seems just a mere ****, all the other cars seems like turtles. AS u take too much attention and concern to do a lap in 5"00 or under, after doind that, not just in the game, but in real life, for some few minutes right later u stop playing it, everything seems just slower, as u were very very fast through a virtual circuit.

Dunno if those who step into 4"´s or 5"s feel the same feeling as me, but, i feel that. :)

it's not unrealistic. if you gave a car a billion HP and put an invicible driver who wakes up and laughs at death every day, I'm sure you could make these times come true. in a game there is no risk to dying at all, unless someone walks into the room and shoots you for some reason. these people wouldn't try these times even if they were paid 8 times the money that Bil Gates, Oprah and Martha Stewart had all combined. I wouldn't either, it would suck to hit a wall at 190+ mph you know. also remember, that with GT4 we have basically unlimited seat time. so we can practice all we want and push even harder lap after lap. if we mess up, that just means you lap times are going to be a little slower. in real life, there is only so much you can do before you die. so yea, it's not unrealistic, just unlikely.

rock.

It is very unrealistic. I've talked about people achieveing 5 minute times with the 'Ring Viper driver, and he said, the day that happens, the day Sabine becomes invincible.
He said times like that are extremely unreal and would not be capable of being achieved any time soon.

There are so many turns on the 'Ring that are only able to take so much speed.
And these turns can make it so that racing the 'Ring and achieveing these times impossible.

I find it interesting that according to that list, about 95% of people are using MT in Arcade mode, while it seems to be about 50/50 between AT and MT in the GT Mode list... imo AT should not be allowed. :) Why are you people in GT Mode using AT????

The Lap Record for a high powered race specific car, tuned for the Nordscleife in the 1983 version of the track (the one in GT4) is 6'25.900 Stefan Bellof and Derek Bell in a Porsche 956. You can point me to other times that might be faster but those two are the ones everyone agrees on and are documented.

So ya the times people are running in most cars on this board are VERY unrealistic, not all, but most of the ones on the top. But does it matter? No. GT4 is a video game. I doubt any of us could get near our times given the same car/setup in real life on the Nordschliefe. It's the nature of OLR hotlapping. People will run the softest tires, most downforce and sometimes TC to get those fast times. Race tires in GT4 are VERY unrealistic as far as grip, as are downforce levels. Not to mention how you always have perfect weather conditions, a clear dirty/debris free track infront of you and perfect race conditions...always in GT4. That would rarely happen in real life. Not only that but in Arcade of GT Mode/free run your tires never wear and your fuel never changes so lap after lap after lap after lap you can run with the same car. In real life, that would never happen.

If you are concerned with running real life laptimes you are limited to N1 tires on all normal cars and S1 tires on all race cars, aids off....you'll run what the same car runs in real life, maybe slightly faster or slower depending on your skill.

GT4 does a good job of giving us hacks a driving experience on many circuits we would never otherwise race on...but it is still jsut a video game. Take it with a grain of salt and enjoy.

I have no doubt that a car could be designed and built to lap the Nordscleife under 5 minutes, definately udner 6 minutes. However it would be a purpose built car, little to do with a production car or most race cars (beyond F1). Will it ever happen. Doubtful....

Does it matter, not really....

Well, I will admit, I have 'upped' the HP on my most recent lap times...keeping it stock...your time would 'own me!' :)

I think the best time I've managed keeping things 'stock' is around 6'28 or something like that...don't know exactly...

I can understand the comment about 'arade mode' though...though on the flip side, don't you think if there's the opportunity to mod a car in any way, then it's really not 'true' arcade mode...per say?
(Always understood Arcade mode being the inability to make any modifications to a car?) Just a thought is all...nothing more!

OTQ: (Off Topic Question)
Have you left both the cars HP & weight in 'as is' condition or have you reduced the cars weight but left the HP alone?

Thx-

As far as i know, the world record run was got in 1983 in a lap of 6"11.130 by Stefan Bellof, in the qualify session.

6'11...6'25...big deal, you missed my point.

BTW, the 6'25 was from Stefan's 1983 qualifying session, documented at least 4 times in a simple google search....

Sim,

For the 5'55.xx time I modifed the HP +20% and weight -10%. I have a lap time with stock settings for the M3 GTR Race Car of 6'17.550. I know there is probably another 3 or so seconds there as well.

I agree to an extent that Arcade mode shouldn't allow any changes, but the minimal changes is does allow in no way compare to the GT Mode settings. If the downforce, suspension settings were modified I could see getting another 7-10 seconds.

Not only that, but GT4's arcade mode uses a "simplifed" physics engine which makes driving arcade cars easier.....

Don't believe me. Try a Ruf CTR with N2 tires, stock in Arcade then in Gt Mode...or a Falken Skyline (set the downforce levels in the middle front/rear) with R1 tires, stock in both Arcade and GT Mode...or the MG roadster with N1 tires in arcade and GT Mode....all driving aids off of course...

Arcade cars are much more forgiving than their GT mode counterparts....

I will take your word for it, although my BMW M3 GTR Race car time is faster in GT Mode than in Arcade Mode.

If I take default settings for the car in both modes my current times are as follows:

Arcade: 6'17.550
GT Mode: 6'14.786

By default race cars in GT Mode have max downforce on them. I don't think the same is true for arcade.....try setting the downforce levels to 50% front and back for the M3 GTR and compare times....

Also the suspension settings by default in GT Mode are much better...

If you want realistic times slap a set of N1 tires on a completely stock GT Mode RUF CTR yellowbird. I guarentee that you will be very close to the time Stefan Rolser did in the Fanzanation video. Kensei, correct me if i'm wrong but didn't RUF tell you when you emailed them that the best lap a stock CTR has done was a very very low 8'00?
Race cars should be on S tires. The R tires are unrealistic and therefore the times set by drivers on R tires will be completely unrealitic. I still don't know why PD put's these dammed tires in GT, I guess they do it for the pick up and play factor where almost anyone with little to tons of skill can drive with ease. Course the more skilled will still lay down the best times but the lesser skilled one's will not have much trouble's staying on track and keeping the car under them.

Show your ring friend this video, www.3rdgenracerX.net/87yellowbird.wmv He's most likely seen Stefans run "8'17.xxx in lots of traffic" One thing you will notice is that lots of our brake zones are about the same, the main difference is that i'm doing it in a game not in real life so I know I can charge a little further into some of the more scary sections. Thats the biggest factor in EVERYsimulation game. You know you will not die if you bend your ride so giving 100% at all times is no problem. Thats completely different in real life and it makes some people slow down when they dont feel safe.

Just go to the official website and see yourself.

6"11.130, it´s the official world record lap dude.

Copied from the site

Still "dude", you missed my point.

I did pull my times from that site BTW....

Yes, "...around 8 minutes." Is the quote. But you, like me, have timed against the fasczination video...so around 8mins, maybe 10 secs better on a fully clear track.

Ruf has never officially tested a CTR around the 'Ring....just laps on open days with everyone else.

hey Kensei (spp??) how bout putting my time up? I sent u a private message with my times.

I'll update the leaderboard tonight...a little busy right now. I just checked this site to see the silly'ness going on here now.

Div is back
....admission for comique school isn't here.

hahaha... I will have a video of this run soon, as soon as I get my capture board installed and configured again - and you can see for yourself. this is not a joke.

btw - I think low 5:50's are possible out of the Supra. the Z06 can break 6 but the Supra is quicker.

Nice time if you stayed on the track the entire time. 👍
I look forward to watching the video.

In general (not trying to pick on you personally delobbo, I just chose this moment to be an arse out of the blue) I think it's easy to run whatever lap time you want. In other words, a picture of your time doesn't mean squat. You could have cut corners, banged gaurdrails and whatever else for all we know. PS is easy too.

Heck, I just ran a 4'57 in the Supra RZ!

< Edit: Pic removed at thread starters request. You can view pic here: http://www.tuff240.com/images/gt4/timepic.jpg >

Can we please get rid of the giant images guys....attach them to your post if you need to show them, don't link to full size pictures...

Go back to your chest pounding now....

I went in the grass about 3 times: overshot Flugplatz a bit, overshot the first tight turn at Kesselchen (lost a good few seconds of time), and then had some stability issues on the final straight causing me to go in the grass for a bit there as well.

I have no reason to make up any times here. You will see soon enough after I post the video.

also - I'm not trying to do any "chest pounding" here - this is a thread for the best laptimes @ Nurburgring, is it not? I mentioned mine, and someone doubted me. I offered proof, that is all.

I will add pictures as attachments in the future. The only reason I posted them is because someone called me out.

regards,

srika aka delobbo
