GT4, Too Hard?

To a degree motoring is their hobby, all some of them are really looking for is a little attention by following a fad.

It looks like some people are arguing that B-spec is making everything easy...

Well, I admit that is true, but not for ALL races...

If you speed up the game 3x for Le Mans Enduros, so the time will be

24 / 3 = 8 hours without pitting in...

For some of you guys it might be real short, but for some it may be a little bit or even too long...

Still, I appreciate everyone's arguments, depending on how fanatic and enthusiastic in a game =)

Yeah, even the Bspec is too long sometimes. I think I have better things to do with my time then play countless hours against a stupid AI in a race claiming to be an endurance race without break downs or night and day shift. Definatly adds to the realism.. Riiiight. Not to mention the PS2 stays on for days or even weeks.

You don't have to do it all in one sitting, mate. I've had my PS2 on continuosly for up to 10 days and never once had a problem with it, just break an Enduro up into little pieces and it shouldn't be a problem.

I realize that, but the fact remains that even broken into little chunks, I don't have the time for it, period. 24 hours of straight racing without being able to do any tuning... I don't have the time for it. :P

I've done one 24h. Don't plan to do another for a good long while.

But does everyone have the TIME for A-specing a 24 hour?

Errr... Whu?

I was responding to the claim that B-Spec doesn't necessarily make things easier, because it still takes at least 8 hours to do a 24hr race. Which it clearly does, because it's 8 hours (well... probably 22 hours) when you don't have to give any input to the game whatsoever to get the money and prize car. This = easier than 24 hours of racing.

I appreciate some might choose this option because they don't have the time to do it themselves. It's still easier.

Realistic tuning rules out any NFS game,
I meant (namely) the performance tuning of NFS: Underground 2, which is far and away above anything the GT series has given us since the original game (and even then it isn't nearly as complex). I have spent hours taking cars in Underground 2 and tuning them to have certain attributes (lets say I want a perfect recreation of a MazdaSpeed Miata. I would sit down and force the torque curve to match up), only to throw away the car and go on to another one without even racing it.
Compared to that, GT4's "slap parts on it and live with it" approach doesn't come close.

Those 24 hr races are not meant to Aspec-ed...

Really. I wish someone had told me before I A-specced the whole game.

Oh, wait, no.

Bspec is there for a reason people!

Call me odd and all, but if I spend £35 on a game, I quite like to experience everything it has to offer first-hand. Setting it running and coming back to find it has given me free progress... not fun.

Obviously you never learnt the joy of tuning those parts in GT series, which unlike NFS, actually make a difference :sly:

NFSU2's tuning system is MUCH nicer than GT's most of the time..

At least... It has features that make getting a car to handle right much easier. Steering rack ratios are adjustable, and the tire grip levels are adjustable (IE pressure differences, max grip is optimum pressure, less is off-pressure)...

However, I can't remember it having camber adjustment, nor LSD. But the gear ratios are tweakable, the engine mapping is tweakable... It works out awesome for an arcade-game, and in fact makes it toe the line between arcade and sim much better than Pro Street.

I dream to have as much time on my hands.

No of course it's not odd to sit in front of the TV for countless hours redoing the same lap with no challenge what so ever against a cutting edge AI with no weather or daylight differences and no break downs. Not odd at all. Your really getting your moneys worth.

I did an hour or so a night (and a bit more at a weekend) over the course of several days.

Heh, good call, but who said there was no challenge?

Sure, you can enter a Lamborarri Fasterossa into each race and be done with or, knowing what the automaton cars will do in the race, carefully select a car which you're not wholly sure can do the job unless you make no mistakes whatsoever.

Besides 250 laps really isn't that much. A good hotlapper will run that many for an OLR. I know back in the days of GTD I'd run at least that (albeit on smaller tracks).

don't know.. ur ps2 isnt feelin that great either, being on all those days. doesnt really cut it for me sitting there and playin that boring crap. i rather spend my time tuning nd setting hot laps and progressing through the game before GT5 comes out. and what the hell is a lamborarri fasterossa lol.. a bootlegged lamborghini and testerossa in one?

Mine has been left on for weeks and hasn't had any problems.

A Simpsons reference (albeit a botched one) or a sarcastic remark. Or both.

Exactly. Mine's been absolutely hammered since I bought it - 24 hour races over weeks, five full weekend LANs - and not so much as coughed.

A bit of both. Point being that you don't have to just enter walkover cars. The race lasts 24 hours anyway, regardless of how fast you drive.

cant believe i should have posted to this thread earlier..,

Well I quite like the idea of NFS Pro Street, but the physics suck so bad that the game needs to be buried and never spoken of again. Good choice on never playing it.;)

yeah, like them changing their theme of "arcade racer" to "racing simulation".., but the thing is, they suck at it.., i mean, NFS becoming a simulator isn't just like them, they should stick to arcade-style physics.., they should leave the racing simulation work to the guys at PD, and their one-and-only game, that is, Gran Turismo.:sly::):D:tup:

Quick development times with large casual fan base for quick turnover of $$$$$

Why do you think a new NFS game comes every year or so........ It's just for the dollars.

i agree, i think they "hurried" ProStreet just so their fans could buy from them again.., so that they could gain profit.., (did i just re-phrase what he said? sorry :D)

Have you played Pro Street, the car doesn't turn at all under acceleration or brakes- you have to coast around corners to do anything.

i have, and i just finished it last Christmas.., it did not take me more than 3 weeks to finish.., when you hit 250mph while stepping on the gas, you can't turn the car.., then suddenly, a concrete barrier or something hard is coming at you very very very fast, you know you are going to crash so you start to scream "SH*****!!! NOOOOO!!!" haha lol

and if you really want to drive like a pro, you don't use automatic but manual, which means that R2 and L2 act as shift up/down buttons.

now that is what i am talking about.., that is US pros, :sly:

I'm one of those who suck and your normal every day video games. I've never been able to grasp the button smashing and stick twirling of Jak and Daxter,. Mario BGros and the like. But give me a good racing game and a steering wheel controller and I'll play all night!!

me too, i am such a addict when it comes to racing games.., :)👍

i too, had a hard time when i first played GT4.., i kept saying "wow, the physics are very different from GT2 & 3.., now THIS is a racing simulator!!"

to all the people here, hi-five.., :D

Pfft.. I use stick and paddles myself, after all, I have G25.. :sly:

and I loved GT4 as soon as I turned all the aids off. after all, my first car after transferring the credits was 400bhp+ R32 GT-R.

I still use the TCS... I am a noob and have only been playing for a month or so... my Father-in-law got me into the game... It was hard as crap at first... but, I loved it anyway! :)

TCS isnt bad, in a 1000bhp Zonda you need it more than anything. But its that damn STM/ASM/No sliding for you! control that I turn off in every game I can ;)

Yeah, the Cerebra Speed 12 is one car that I am easy on the throttle, and using the TCS, and it is still almost impossible to keep the tires from spinning like crazy... I can't wait to get my driving force, I don't have the money to fork out for a DFP, plus the wife... :scared: anyways. The DS2 just isn't easy to get throttle control on. So I find myself spinning the tires and ending up sideways becuase of it. :grumpy:

Yes, the Cerbera Speed Twelve is quite a handful.

Still, if you take care and feather the X button, you can get relatively clean laps. Albeit 6s slower than anything else in its class...

I can get some decent lap times, I'm just not very consistent since I struggle with throttle control on the DS2. But, then again, compared to many of you on this forum I suck :ouch: really bad.

you are not the only one who uses TCS, although try to keep it to a minimum.., having a high setting on both ASM and TCS will slow your car down..,

yes, love GT4 as much as you like!! 👍

Pfft.. I use stick and paddles myself, after all, I have G25.. :sly:

yes, i can imagine where you are now, between chair and G25.., lol  man, i am so envious right now.., i wish i had me a steering wheel, but my dad would not let me have one, he is stingy..,

the only aids that i use is the TCS, because i hate wheelspin at a stop start.., although i only keep it to a minimum, in such a way that, the TCS is there, but you wont feel it like it is there, so as not to sacrifice speed.., :D
