but what bothers me more is the damn wheels and tires! the wheels are still wayyyyyy too small in diameter, and the tires are way too fat. looks bizarre on a car that has low profile rubber.

funny, the GT3 looked fantastic in PGR2.

It's possible to choose between different rims and tires according to previews.
Maybe they have not implemented the final rims/tires in that build.

A new Forza preview with some new info

Microsoft also claims to have gotten high marks for the surface modeling of Laguna Seca from course regulars -- all the right bumps and dips are there.

To help developing racers deal with all those bumps, Forza will eventually include some detailed interface options for watching telemetry data during a replay. Among them will be a display to show the amount of power being put down by each wheel, the friction coming back, and the amount of power required to get optimum traction at any given time, so players can adjust how they attack different corners and spots on the track for the best possible results.

I realise that they've mentioned this, but being able to choose wheel size doesnt affect the size of the O.E. wheels and tires. They are out of proportion, which is puzzling.

For example, that Porsche GT3 comes with 19 inch wheels. They look like 15s or 16s in the vids.

But it could be temporary wheels until the final wheels are finished.
We will have to wait for the final build to see if the wheels are fixed.

for a game that is supposedly 85% finished, they need to show something more impressive than Laguna Seca with the same handful of cars.

I'll wait. And keep on hoping.

If you checked the latest IGN videos, the title of videos says they
are from a demo disc.
Demos are tested and faults (not all faults) are corrected before
other people can get it. It can take over 2 months to do that
(this is according to what I read about development of some games).
So the demo could be a few months old.

There is also a another indication that the demo used for the videos is not 85 % completed.
The remaining part to do is some polishing when a game is that close to be finished.
But the videos has only four cars on the track while the final game will have
8 cars according to info. It seems there is more to do in that demo than just some polishing.

lmao...dood I've really been pulling for some of your arguements, but you are making huge assumptions about the game industry. Do not presume you know when indeed you do not. It does not take that long for preview builds to get released. I cannot imagine the amount of faulty builds we have. Our new Enthusia build is utter crap, it freezes every time we load it, Konami just apologizes and say's wait. Point is, Preview builds are released on DVD-R format, which are used on Debug consoles, if you need proof I can show you both the Debug PS2 (which says test) and the Debug Xbox, but do NOT make these BS statements anymore because you've proven that you are simply sticking up for this game, when there is no reason to do so with out any solid proof that their claims will be met.

Not bashing forza, but drop this 40% crap, IGN is the CENTER of the gaming media industry, they have the largest user base period. No company that has any brains sends the same build over and over again, especially if they are trying to gain publicity. Hell we got like 3 builds of MK: Deception a month before it released, all three had errors.

The game is nearly finished, and it will be finished by december. Those are just limited demos as to not give away all of the cars etc, and to avoid problems from being revealed prematurely that might cause negative PR, but that demo is NOT 40%.

who is we? Do you work for IGN? are you an intern or something?

and for god's sakes stop being so rude to people.

My apologies, lemme clarify.

We is myself and my roommate. My roommate is employed by a website, I can PM you the info but I cannot publicly reveal the info, but he is the Senior Editor, and being that he is the only one with Debug consoles, we have to preview/review all games that come in on builds etc, on DVD-R. Since this is the case, I often have to play many of the games prior to release (joy!) so he can preview/review them (goes quicker if I play he writes).

As for it "not going to be finished till feb". Check this out :)

It takes an average of one month for a game to receive it's ESRB rating, the game has to be complete in order to get a final rating. And it take approx. 2 weeks to stamp the necessary copies of the game needed to sell the title at release date. Then it takes another 2 weeks to package ship and distribute these games to all the necessary vendors. Usually vendors recieve these titles around 1 to 2 weeks in advance. So, with that said, it takes approximately two months after a game is completed to release it. Therefore, Forza will be finished in December, unless they do not finish and they will have to push it back more.

As for my being rude, I'm not TRYING to come across like a jackass, however it's very frustrating to see many people follow someone who is ill-informed, and take on these assumptions as truths, even when I tried to explain previously a few times before, this just gets noticed a little bit better.

Hope that clears it up and my apologies for anything rude...ahead of time :)

Maybe you should read what I wrote again. I used the words usually, indication and probably to show I'm not sure. I'm just just using my experience
as a programmer/tester of other types of products and what I have read
about development on some other games.
Maybe I did a mistake to use the words usually and probably since I read
about the development of just a few games.

I didn't say they are fixing all faults in the demo.

I replied to one of your previous posts in this thread and said the new demo
is a newer build than the previous 40 % done build used at games events.
I just said there are indications that the demo could be less than 85 % complete.

And according to a developer interview in a Gamespot video last week
the game is 90 % complete. So even if the demo is based on the latest build there will be improvements compared to the videos (there is a lot of polishing, tuning and balancing to do according to the video).

Edit:
Why would they reduce number of cars on the track to 4 if they already have 8 cars and the demo is only released to gaming sites ?

Are you sure about this.
It seems as they finished the work on Halo 2 october 4 and the release is november 9. Maybe I missunderstood something in the article below.

He's generalising, but it is common for those processes to take a lot of time.

Different publishers take different amounts of time, but as you pointed out, Microsoft takes roughly one month to do certification and manufacturing.

The shipping can vary, but with a behemoth like Mocrosoft, they make sure it gets distributed RFN (right ****ing now).

I thought ESRB ratings are finalised in a matter of days.

Tripleplay, you laugh and all, but do you play RainbowSix3 on Xbox?

There's a display in the game, where there's a dummy internet address, well even after we told them (QA) about it not being registered, they still didn't... now, the link goes to a porn site that makes a guy rich... Amazingly stupid turn of event... should've though about it... damnit ;)

Yeah looks good but those damn skidmaks are way OTT. Makes the game look kinda stupid. And why can't no-one at IGN race?

Yeah the skidmarks do look over the top, but when you go round the track there not as harsh as they were coming out of your back wheel's which is weird it's just a visual element they went too far with.

The thing that bother's me the most if the Sparks. When two car's touch each other it looks very very unrealistic, and very silly in my opinion. GTR has similar sparks but I can forgive a small up and coming development studio, but won't forgive Microsoft a multi billion pound corporation.

But everything else is looking class :)

Coming out of the back wheels? Are these the wheels that are locked up/skidding?

The marks should be "coming out" of whatever wheel is locked/skidding?

Yeah Sparks when cars touch sounds a bit OTT...

the funny thing is that he apologises before he starts his post.

"Im sorry, but I'm going to type up some gibberish not worth reading."

What part of "that forza video looks so funny" "like a toy racer" did you not understand? that's the truth it looks like crap, now just shut your mouth and stop trying to act like you are SO intelligent and eloquent that everyone else's opinions and statements are not good enough for you.

code_kev
Adramire, what part of "gibberish" did you not understand?
 I think it must be the "ish" part, as usually when someone says "fast-ish" or "large-ish" they mean not quite there but getting close...and I believe Adramire was talking pure "gibber" :)

When a car skids in a straight line, the skid marks are lined up, in the Forza vid, when the car starts to turn in the skid, you can see the skid marks separate, so they seem to have done the front/rear skids correctly.
The only thing is, they seem to be drawn on the track like "paint", and "flow" out too readily. (like those trucks that paint the white lines on the road :) ) A bit of roughness and irregularity would make them much more realistic.

My friend just showed me some pics of Forza made by IGN, and the cars are REALLY wrecked. I didn´t see these pics here, but I won´t post them because someone may have done it already a few pages back and I missed it.

But if they haven´t been posted yet, you should check on IGN, the pics are really good.

I can finally access this forum again. Damn web filter at work starting blocking everything GT4 :scared: Fixed it though...got to see the other Forza vids. Engine sounds are on point and I like how the cars kick up dirt 👍 The bodykits, damage, skid-marks and those dreadful sparks are getting old real quick...but maybe that's just me. Also, 30 fps starts to get annoying after a while. Everything looks great standing still but when the cars are moving it doesn't look right...makes the replays come out crappy. I guess it's a trade off for all the fancy visuals. And what ever happened to the cockpit view? All that interior work for nothing?
