I kept getting problems with my PS2 with NFSU2 and other blue coloured discs..

I bought a laser guide arm and fitted it.

No more horrible noises & "Disc Read Error" messages! GT4 works sweet as a nut!

Well last night my PS2 blew up, the disc drive seized and ate a DVD movie. Oh well gave me an excuse to buy a Slim PS2 today.

:(

Rough. Sorry to hear it BlazinX. *be sure you buy an extended warrany for your new unit*

Aryian, plz get back & let us know what Sony said. I'll be curious to hear m'self.

i aint got a problem.

SCPH 35000. got it withe the GT3 Bundle. so maybe that is why GT4 wont work for some of ya, You didnt get your PS2 with a gT3 in it.

Lucky bastard. :D

I got mine in that GT3 bundle. Orange box. It had Gran Turismo racing pack or something like that written on it.

That's the one I had to replace.

My PS2 is from GT3 bundle too, it runs the GT4 but sometimes it stuck at the loading screen, all I have to do is give it a little shake.

Hi...

I have PS2 from the first day when it came to Europe (arround January 2001). The model is SCPH-30004 V3. I played allmost everythin on it. Three months ago, after 15 service shops rejected me, I finaly found one that agrred to modded it. He said its the oldest model and the motherboard is completly different, but PS2 is in good shape and after all he put a chip Parhelia. After googling around, I found 0 results about this chip, but hey, now I can even watch DivX :)
I am big fan of GT series (i won 1 prize in my country at National GT3 competition in class A and B, and third in rally class). I was preparing myself for GT4 (bought GT Driving Force Pro, nice comfy chair, 16:9 screen...), but then i heard about reading problems with old PS2. Offcourse I bought it, put it in my PS2 and.... voila. 13 hours of continuous playing and nothin happened (knocking in wood :) The game is... do I need to coment :).
Anyway, I am sorry for people the game is not working.
Oh, I have one question. I noticed you are saying the game is loading too long. What do u mean by long? It only takes 3-4 sec to load stage.

Thats all folks... thx for reading this long post :)

Cya...

I picked up a copy of GT4 today and when i stuck it in my playstation it just sits at the browser/system configuration screen. i took it back and exchanged it and sure enough it happened again.

Model No. is SCPH-39001/N

anyone else having this problem / know how to fix it? i shouldnt have to spend money to fix this because they didnt do it right.

*EDIT* I fixed my problem. i had to follow this link http://www.classicplastic.net/dvgi/eventsfeaturesIMPORTPS2cleaning.htm

and clean my lense. works fine now 👍

Nah, I bought mine the first day it came out in Canada (October 21st,2000) and it still runs like a charm. GT4 Runs perfectly.

I've been skimming through this thread trying to find some answers to my problem too. I have an older ps2, and I have problems with random freezing when enter a race. The rotating clock hand just stops and thats it. This can happen after 3 minutes, 3 hours or it might not happen. It doesn't lock up in races or anything, just in the process of loading the data for the race I'm going to. I don't have this problem with gt3 or any other game I play...so I discount overheating, dust, or scratches (its new and I have no scratches on it).

I seem to have the Red Clock to often. I have an old PS2 (SCPH-35004), 2moroow i will exchange GT4 before i will try the laser leveling (allready cleaned it.)
When this happens it will certainly won't improve my mood..... :grumpy:

i just found out, that when it the red clock appears, and you hold the PS2 in youre hands, then gently rotate, it picks the game back up again...

I got a new GT4 copy, but still a red clock. Now am experimenting with the laser hight, we'll see what happens.

UPDATE:
In the mean time i adjusted the laser hight, and it now only shows a red clock once a evening (just in the beginning after a few races). This becomes more comfortable and more fun

I had the 'red clock' after adjusting teh laser height, rectified it by re-adjusting it

it also stopped and went back to grey if I tilted the ps2....adjusting the laser height will help i would think!

My copy of GT4 wroks well in the firts steps( creating profile in the memory card) then all I see is a black screen, no sound no thing. I try defferent memory card nothing, also I remove all the cards and nothing.

I have the PSTWO version SCPH-39001 not moded.

I dont know what to do :guilty:

well *pulls out list of ps2 combos and secrets*

insert the game like normal and start on the screen where it says browser and system configuration press triangle on that screen go onto playstation driver and press triangle change disc speed to fast and texture mapping to smooth than go back to the menu with playstation driver(by pressing circle) and go onto console and turn diagnosis on than go back to the browser screen and press x on browser it should read the disc ofcourse another way is to restart alot but that is time consuming but it may work if not you may have to take your ps2 apart

Whew. Terrifying reading all this.
Reminds me of my first months owning a brand-new PS2 four years ago.
Had to try and try and try again for it read discs.

Ecck.

1-800-345-SONY, people.
Supposedly they now have to fix 'em for free. It is all I can tell you to do. :(

I have the first ps2 model im not sure what the midle # is but if you have an old playstation. get a can of air and blow it out make sure not to hold the can up side down and spray. spraying it out made my playstation play blue and old playstation games

Oy guys... i have kinda unusual GT4 loading probem O_o

i have normal fat PAL PS2 SCPH-50004 so its not too old (bought it around 9/2004), its modded with SNIPER 2 and plays all games pretty good...

When i try to run GT4... it loads - shows Playstation2 logo, shows first screen with disclaimer about car manufacturers etc., Dualshock2 red LED lightens up and then it freezes like that....... im supposing there should be a screen with language selection but it just stays black.....

anyone have an idea? :indiff:

Yeah plenty but I don't help people who MOD their PS2's and pirate games. Unless you import games which is still lame.

code_kev
How is modding a console "lame". How is importing games "lame". Meh, modding consoles makes em better.

Most people mod them to play pirated games, which is Ilegal, I do not have one pirated PS2 game, and have a unmodded PS2.

The thing that really annoys me is when some people get games and they suck they go off their tits about it and complain. WTF they got it for free, why complain?

Hey! When you put the GT4 disc in...click on BROWSER...It should show a picture of a memory card(if you have one) and it will also show a disc...click on the disc...should work...This same problem happens to me...I just either have the Disc in b4 pressing the power button or I go to Browser... :)

I'm sorry to read about your bad news. My friend has the same problem with GTA:VC. The early PS2s have trouble with new games sometimes. The only solution that I have is getting a new PS2.

Sometimes it's just the disk. I went out and got a new PS2 (slim line) saturday because it wouldn't load to the races (but it would load everywhere else). Upon cleaning the disk, and PS2, I was still unable to play. Just a Red Loading wheel. So I figured my old PS2 was finally wore out and merrited a new purchase. Same problem. The only fix was to get a new game. Problem solved.

thanks for help guys, i actually did read this entire thread so i've tried all those tricks with browser and stuff....

the solution was, once again, laser... it seems my laser was thirsty so i've cleaned it with Absolut Vodka and it works :dopey:

eastley: heh, thanks "buddy"... at least i know now who am i talking to ;)

anyway, yes i use modchip for playing imports (and GT4 can't be "pirated" obviously)
.... and, though i know its just "my" problem, i'd like to see you buying original games (which is what i do) being so super-overpriced like in here :) ...which is about 1/4 of your average monthly earnings. yeh, fun :)
