BTW, I purchased the red car. Has anyone else noticed that the number on the hood does not match the number on the roof? I haven't checked the other color cars, but I found this amusing...

Now back to work!!

so does this mean we're racing the #30 AND the #33 S2000?

EDIT: 🤬 just got a 24.xxx T1 and then I just barely slammed my car head first into a wall.

Slight improvements from me!

Fairly stock,brand new purple s2000

Only changes are

Ride height 'on-it's-ass'
Diff inreased all by 5

Oh and dropped rear downforce to minimum!

T1 24.995

After failing to submit a time for last week's race, I'm back again. Didn't spend much time on the race last week anyway but I am now at about 88% completion. STILL haven't beaten Mission 34, but maybe after gaining a new skill set...

Back to this week... I've finally decided to change things up and learn to drive stick after driving auto since GT1. I'm getting pretty comfortable on the DFP and halfway so on the DS2. I can see how choosing your own gear can be faster than auto. The extra involvement is also enjoyable, but it'll be hard to do with the kids fighting in the background and the music on. I've so far only run with the BGM very low and headphones off to help hear the engine. No better car for that than the LM S2000 though. I've gotta say, though, that learning manual on a tight and twisty street course does not make completing a clean lap easy!

So far my best T2 is 1'08.599.

BTW, I purchased the red car. Has anyone else noticed that the number on the hood does not match the number on the roof? I haven't checked the other color cars, but I found this amusing...

đź‘Ť for the effort!

Personally I play with the BGM off so I can hear the engine and tires better and usually shift by sound and feel. But the LM S2000 is the perfect car, though Monaco is a challenge for shifting. I recommend using a wide gear set up and use only 5 gears. Otherwise you'll just shift too much and your tires will spin and you'll basically lose several seconds off your time.

I played around a few (three or four) laps yesterday but don't have my times off hand. Something like 27 and 1;08 though if I remember correctly.

Just wanted to drop in and mention a few things.

First off.
Thanks CFM.
This is a great race through and through. đź‘Ť

Next,
Everyone, please take the time to play around with your settings in a way that you feel comfy with.
Try not to just copy down the settings of another racer.
Each of us would have different settings if the cars were set up for our individual driving styles.

To emphasize that ...
I've had the luxury of checking out a few great set ups but I still haven't used any of them.

Why you ask?
Because I am already running as fast as I can and it's with my own settings.
Settings that are so odd I can't really even describe them without giving up my best tricks. ;)

They are certainly different from everything I've seen so far, that much is for sure.

However, are the times I get with them any good?
No, but they are better than what I expected.
Hell, on a dirty run I saw 24.4 @ T1.

That's only a dirty lap, but my clean lap isn't far behind it. :mischievous:

I'm not going to put any pressure on racers like hotboi and ice, but I will surely be able to do the best I have done in the GT4 WRS. :D

My point:
Play around with your set ups.
Don't be scared to try something new and don't be scared to try using a set up that seems un-orthodox.

Maybe later in the week I will post my settings for the sake of helping the slowest of the slow, but even then I doubt they will help anyone other than me. :sly:

Kent, if I may just add to your post ... what you said there is very, very valid and something I was telling Ex and TimBrad only yesterday: Someone else's settings may actually be WORSE for you then beneficial, and one should approach these with that in min d(it happened to me in the Skylines and I ended up running my own settings purely because of that).

That being said, there are a lot of people in the WRS that really don't know what the HELL to do with the settings ... it can be easy to forget how overwhelming the entire subject is ... I'm talking about even wondering whether to tweak the springs one way or the other, and what does "toe" do again, and "should I play with the brake balance"?

A lot of time the posted settings may not be the perfect soution, but they give the absolute n00b (myself included) a starter for ten ... a point from which we can then tweak or *AT LEAST* see the direction people are latering their settings in, so we can emulate that but find our own levels.

I like it when people post their settings ... it can be a huge time saver and answer a billion questions all in one post ... but then, yes, one should appraoch them cautiously, because they may not suit [your] driving style.

I also think that there is a tendency for some newbies (I've done this) to jump straight into a car, alter it's settings and jump onto a new track ... I would preach time and time again to FORGET the settings for the first day or so ... get as fast as you can CONSISTENTLY before altering a thing ... then alter just one thing at a time, that way you can go back out for 5 laps and see if it honestly helped or hindered you.

such good advice you said it three times eh honey??!!

was it just to catch those people out who only skip read the threads....???

hang on a sec.... is it just my eyes or have they gone again??

:dunce:

all the setting stuff aside, my biggest problem is the racing line and the correct gearing.
i know vexd will be here later to give me some pointers, but does anyone have any advice that will help me try and master it a little before he gets here so i can look really cool and show off???

its the only chance i'll ever have! :(

Well...

First off, let's get this straight everyone...

The "Edit" button is at the bottom of every post you make so that double post are not necessary.

Now, with that out of the way.

Racing line huh?

Go back to the fundamentals.
I know the track is complex, but the fundamentals will still carry you much further than you think.

Look at the top of the hill and the left hand turn there.
It leads directly into a sharp right that goes down hill to T1.

Many people take that first left by coming off the hill, going wide, then cutting back to the left so it is a long wide turn that leads directly into the open space before the next turn.

However, if you stick to the fundamentals and work on the throttle usage...

Take that left like every other long turn.
Stay to the inside and use the throttle to balance out your turning (since inputs with this car are always sharp).

Staying to the inside can cut off some major time, especially if your current best lap has the typical skidding over-shoot from the top of the hill.

Now, see...
I want to say more about all sorts of things and I really am looking forward to posting my setup.
However, I'm worried that my advice or setup may make the difference for someone I'm in direct competition with. :mischievous:

Man oh man what a jam. :ouch:

get on MSN ... I need to be working really, but I'll pass on what I can.

Best run after 2 more laps (1.5 seconds closer to goal laptime):
T1: 0'25.176
T2: 1'07.920

I still have some tuning issues to hammer out, and there are quite a few places I can see to make gains. I like this car; it's very much in line with my driving style.

update,

T1-25.367
T2-1'06.863

Kent,glad you're back.

this is big y-front skiddy pants!

i'm struggling so hard to master this course!

thanks for your help Nat.

lets see if i have any skill to put them to use. any time i manage this week will be down to you!

Thank for the tip guys on how to take Massenet, I will try them out latter tonight when I race.

I am still using the stock settings, I might start to tinker with them as well tonight.

Has anyone else got stuck on the rumble strip (curb) on the tight hiarpin? Its quite funny somtimes!

Not a good week for me so far. One of the guys at work decided that brakes are for beginners, so he used a traffic sign instead. Not a bad effort though - engine through firewall, steering wheel hitting roof, windscreen wiper smashed through top of dash then back out the windscreen again. Being his supervisor I was stuck with looking after the whole affair.

So, between that and the 4 break-ins I had to look after last night I've had no time relax and start driving decent laps. A short 3 lap sprint was all I've managed so far giving me...

T1 - 25.608
T2 - 1'08.749

...although I might have touched the exit to turn 1. Now to bed before my last 2 days of work for the week. See you all on Saturday for some proper hotlaps.

Edit: I saw that some people liked the F1 track map - another good site for track maps is www.racingcircuits.net

"Security Officer Somebody - over and out"

something I found out with the S2000 thanks to Amuse is that this car works extremely well with equal front and rear negative camber. about 3-4 degrees. I could get on the throttle much sooner than normal and it makes the car handle more like a formula car.

this works wonders for my driving style. who knows if it will help you out. :dopey:

@EXelero......Racing lines vary (slightly) on your driving style. Since everybody's driving style is different, racing lines tend to be a little different. But remember this, you want to make the track as straight as possible. Cross the lane divider. Go into the opposing lane (as long as no-one is coming  ). Take the "S" curve and make it an "I" curve.

On second note. I completely agree with Kent. Don't use someone elses settings. Again, everybody's driving style is different so settings will need to be adjusted in YOUR favor.

I had completely forgotten about the teams aspect of it. I'm intrigued, and shall now set to work on tuning this thing.

As good of a lap as I'll get...for now:
T1: 0'24.804
T2: 1'06.800
Gonna do some more tuning tomorrow and see if I can't shave a little more time off that...

I take offense to that(the newbies part)... Except for the one make races, I've NEVER run a car with stock settings. Granted I've got a lot of experience tuning cars in GT *points to 8 second viper* so I know what works for me.

I agree with Kent and Koly about using your own setup. I've tested a few peoples setups and found that they lack the loose feeling of driving I prefer.

The only advice I can really give for this week is that this weeks race is all about acceleration and handling. For the acceleration, go with a low auto gear, high final gear, and a high initial torque on the LSD(if anyone wants to prove me wrong on the acceleration part go ahead, but my tests show I have better acceleration with a high initial*) That sums up everything I can tell you. I hate this track. I swear walls jump out of nowhere.

*Tests include running 0-400m with a high setting that shaves off between .1 to .6 seconds off 400m times and prectice during the Skyline race and this weeks race.

Darkwind,

Kolyana was giving advice to "some newbies". You shouldn't "take offense" to her statement because I don't believe that she was directly refering to you.
