Wow. I can't believe this. I have a 25.030 T1 but a T2 of 1'10.0XX.... yet I took off over 3 seconds at the line from what I had last night. I must be really FUBAR'ing T2. :odd:

Darkwind,

Kolyana was giving advice to "some newbies". You shouldn't "take offense" to her statement because I don't believe that she was directly refering to you.

I don't believe she was refering to me either, considering she said herself she'd done it. Koly believes in one paradigm of racing, while I believe in another. I believe in tuning the car to how it suits you, then go on from there. Koly believes in running the car stock, then modify it.

Each has it's advantages. With Koly's, you learn how to be fast without touching the cars specs. My way allows you to make the car comfortable for you to drive, and then modify from there.

However, the disadvantages are that with koly's, you'll be fast with the stock car, but once you touch the suspension, tranny, etc, then you change the entire mood of the car(sometimes not for the better) and with mine, you could be running a setup that's slow from the start and never really get much faster. It's like running with your own setup, run with your own idea on how to learn the car and track.

I think its best to go with a mix of the two. If you doing any sort of tuning you'll know what usually works for a certain drivetrain. I usually start by making adjustments in these areas such as lowering ride height, taking off asm tcs, and gears. Once you find flaws in these basic settings is when you really can dive in and see the most improvement in the settings you change 👍

We could start a whole thread on these two paradigms alone. Generally, I tend to run with Kolyana's more than anything. I'll get the car, tune it with the HP and weight specified, and run it. Once I feel I'm getting good with that time, I'll start tuning it to make my life easier. Generally the Tranny Trick has never hurt me, nor has adjusting the LSD or suspension after I've been racing. If anything, it actually is as advantageous if not moreso than your method because you get to understand what happens in the car without your comfort-zone tuning. While the comfort zone is nice to have, it's important to get to know your car for what it really is, and not what you've made it (I'm seeing an analogy to relationships here, but let's not get off topic). Then, as you continue driving with it, parts of your driving rub off on it as its driving idioms rub off onto your technique, making it slightly better. Either way, with Kolyana's method, you win. With your method, you're just stuck to essentially driving one car all the time. Don't take offense, I'm just speaking my own mind here.

Whew - 👍 👍 good times on a great track :scared:

t1 - 24.735 saw a 23.xx once :dunce: crashed at the end of the tunnel straight
t2 - have to figure it out high 1:05.xx i think

first good "fast" "clean" lap

prob. will be my best time - can't beat the ghost anymore :) :sly:
a couple of tenths are all thats out there that i can see (need a magnifiing glass to find them) :banghead:

Darkwind,

Sorry if I misinterpreted your post. I appreciate everyone's opinions and/or advice :)

What the heck did I do now?

There must be something about the way I write ... but I try and generalize, I typically include myself in on the fold, and yet I still manage to offend someone with the most unoffensive of remarks.

I speak mainly for the "newbies" who know NOTHING of setups (and there are a few), who can't "set up the car to what suits them and then run with it" because they - and here's the kicker - DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SETTING UP A CAR.

I speak also for the people who don't know the track, or they don't know the car, and - typically - they don't know BOTH. To setup a car - when you don't know squat about setting up anything - and then run on a track you've never seen before, doesn't tell anyone anything aboutt he setup changes you are making.

My advice was simply to get used to the car and track first ... wait until you're running as fast as you can ... because only then can you possibly know if something you're altering in your car's setup is having a good or negative affect.

Is this the best way? HELL NO ... but not all of us know our camber angles from our spring rates, not all of us can jump onto a strange track and run our best lap within 6 circuits and then know instinctively what to alter.

I felt that my advice - to the outright newbie - was accurate and fair. I don't feel like I singled anyone out or even said anything to be taken poorly.

I am sorry on so many levels that my advice was taken so personally and offensively.

Frankly ... I got on here to post some splits and read some good posts, instead I see that my advice is pi$$ing people off.

Screw this.

A 100km stint for me today, lots of progress :)
New splits:

T1: 0'24.736
T2: 1'05.439

I think i did T2-finish as well as i can possibly do in that lap. There's definitely room for improvement up until T2. Saw a 1'05.2 but then got too antsy way too tentative for the right-left combo after T2. Even saw a 1'04.9 but that was dirty in a couple of places... but it's good to know what i can achieve. Just gotta manage to redo a clean version.

Not sure how others are doing their setups, but i'm finding a softer suspension working very well for me on this track. Normally i increase the spring rates when i increase horsepower but this track seems very bumpy.

Springs: 13.6/11.9
Ride Height: 85/85
Bound: 6/6
Rebound: 6/6
Camber: 2.5/1.8
Toe: 0/0
Stabilizers: 5/4
Brakes: 5/4
Initial Torque: 10
Accel: 36
Decel: 12
ASM: 0
TCS: 0
Gear: Auto 9 (Shorten 3rd a little bit, shorten 4-5-6 to the max, tighten the final a bit)
Although i only use 6th gear for a second on this track, i think having a long 1st and 2nd gear help alot on putting the power down on the hairpin exits.

Edit: For anyone looking for tips for T1, for the first right turn, aim away from the entrance of the turn and brake right before or when the gear suggestion light flashes down to 105km/h. By braking in a line directed away from the corner entrance, this will give you the biggest possible radius and the best exit speed for the corner. For the next left-turn, have the car in the middle of the track, brake after the car lands from the jump to 110km/h. By the time you finish braking your car should be on the very outside of the corner along the right. You want as late of a corner apex as possible(almost to the point of missing the corner completely) so you will be along the left wall for the next downhill right corner. Brake early again to 100km/h and you should be able to fully accelerate until the braking point for the start of the hairpins. By doing this, i have been able to consistently achieve a T1 of 0'24.6-8.
I posted this tip earlier but not sure if anyone read it as i haven't noticed any feedback.

23's aren't possible imo. The best I've seen is 24.218 and that was as best as I'll ever get for sure. Maybe you're on the wrong tires?

Edit: I saw that some people liked the F1 track map - another good site for track maps is www.racingcircuits.net

"Security Officer Somebody - over and out"

Thanks for that link,I did like the one you posted before!

Sorry you're having a crappy week...hope it gets better for you.

May be going to indy this week for the F1 race, we'll have to see! (its near me here).

23s ARE possible.... But you'd have to be insanely fast, faster than I dunno... whats something really really really fast?

Newest Splits:
T1: 25.124
T2: 1'08.846

I bombed the last two turns though. They were clean, but really slow.

Good luck to the people who are running MT. I just tried running a lap and got confused. I'm using the standard PS2 controller though. Priced some DFPs and I think my wallet screamed.

Kolyana
The DFP on these tight chicanes is INTENSE ... I think I've dislocated both elbows.

You're not wrapping them around each other again are you?

BTW, I started doing your way of tuning. Starting stock settings, run, tweak, run, tweak somemore, run. It really helps me know the car better. Thanks.

Man I thought I was decent at this track but apparently i flat out suck. So ive decide im gonna pack up all my ps2 stuff and ebay it. Apparently GT isnt my thing so its time to find a game which is more on my level... Maybe something like connect the dots... no no thats too hard as well... maybe people watching. Ill let you know when i figure out

Im jk btw!

Just been a long day

Ole Peyton isnt hanging up his DS2 just yet!!

Canoe
@Kenny... fun reading! How's Kimi doing lately. I couldn't hook up with him last weekend after the show in Montreal, but we're on for a Saturday afternoon round of golf at Indy... hehehe

Thanks. He's doing quite well. That's funny you say that, he mentioned something about 'no mercy' to this bloke he was gonna play golf against in a few days

whoa, hold up *listens as everyone running laps slams on their brakes and crash*.... oops... Anyway, so your bad at one track, imagine the hit my ego took when I was almost dead last in D3 :yuck: . My ego took an even bigger hit since it was the Skyline race, when we use a car I mastered in GT2 and used throughtout GT3 and GT4. I think I cried for three days.

All you boys need to toughen up and... ummm... nevermind.

I am loving this combo. Thanks Chocolate Flavored Man.

^^I know someone will contort that into some sexually questioning statement.

Allright First off let me apologize I made that post with a bit too much haste. with a long+bad day at work I wasnt in the best of moods. I just need to relax and regroup. Im sure i can find my way, I know i can be fast I just need to suck it up and relax.

Latest splits.

T1- 24.984
T2- 1'05.780

Obviously haven't figured out T1 yet. :grumpy: My best dirty so far is 24.770, and haven't been able to repeat that. I think I'll experiment with different lines, cause the classic one ain't cutting the mustard.

T2 is coming around once I found speed in the LRR combo before the tunnel.

No settings to post yet. It's a work in progress, and so far, is looking kinda bizarre from other settings I see posted. Just trying to compensate for the R3's to try and get them to work more like R4's.

Don't see myself getting into the 1'04's, but hey, welcome to D1 huh?

T1: 24.919
T2: 1'07.156

I'm unhappy with this .. I lost at least .2 in the last sector and I really wanted to break into the 1'06 area. Still it was a stronger finish and a decent amount off at the line (also the first time I've broke into the 24's at T1 :P)

You are killing me. I am so going to run a ton tomorrow. My splits were with 10 laps or so. I am gonna put in an hour or so tomorrow. If I have time. DAMNIT Summer! ;)

That or ingest huge qauntities of caffiene and/or sugar. Nevermind... go with the relax.
