I had a session today. It's very hard to run fast and clean. The car's terrible and the circuit's bumps don't help, but that makes the race interesting. My splits are:
0'27.304
1'06.291

but if I linked my best corners I'd have a 27.1/1'05.8

👍

Here's my splits so far. All these curbs make a lot of room for improvement. Sometime you clip them just right and gain more speed through the corner, and sometimes they launch you into the wall. Generally I try to avoid them, but if I could figure out how to hit each one right, I'd improve my laptime greatly.

T1: 27.653
T2: 1'07.083

This car really really sucks for a race car. The brakes suck, the suspension sucks.

This thing is a handful to drive fast.

I'm guessing the car on the game handles a little better than the real thing did. Imagine being one of the guys that raced those for a living back in the day! If you're at all a fan of American Muscle Cars and raw HP, this combo fits the bill.

I am in here running on weeks with the Toyota Vitz or some silly other little car and have run tracks that I am not particularlay fond of in the beginning or the end.

It's all a learning experience here and I think you will find driving cars that you might not like or you might not be good at driving will make you a better driver, if that is your goal.

In my opinion only - If that is not your goal, you might still be best served letting those who enjoy this sort of combo enjoy it and take the week off until the next one.

I was thinking about staying out, but so far my splits are decent, so I'll see what happens.

EDIT: I think I hate the track more than the car. The car could be fun, especially on a smooth high speed course, it'd be a blast, it just doesn't suit this bumpy track IMO.

Fastest T1 I've seen but I tanked it pretty much after downhill/RR tracks just before T2. Lap previous saw a 1'07.661 but forgot to brake going into final right-hander under Route 5.

28.228
1'07.378

Still about .5 - 1 secs to be had...

Some more laps and my best has ... 27.327 / 1'05.857

There's so much to collect with better lines! .. its crazy but cool :sly:👍

edit: 27.109 / 1'05.615 (I should be able to get around 1'05.4 at T2 with some luck 👍)

hey, ran 2 sessions and heres my best using 300 top speed

26.685
1'04.233

i used 2nd gear at the first corner, braking just before the last of the 3 lined street poles on the left, 4/5th throttle as u exit is it can wheel spin extremely easily, the left i do a quick 3rd, avoiding the inside rumble, around 135km/h initially, switch to 5th gear just as u jump over the first of the bumps, an when u land after the second bump brake immediately to stabailse the car, take the right at at 100km/h in 3rd. then the right also at 100km/h, then 135-140 depending on how lucky you get for the right kink, then the left also depending on ur line 135-140 in 3rd, switch to 4th quickly if ur carrying extra speed, the hairpin 3rd gear at 78-79 ideally.

At the first sign u need to brake into the double right, deepily, down to 97-99 accelerate breifly, tap the brakes again, then accelerate through the right, brake quickly for the left at 110, then switch to 4th gear as u take the left right at 150 initially, then the right at 165-175, easing off the gass momentarily as u jump over the bump to avoi unwanted wheel spin, brake as the left rumble strip commences for the right, take it at 79-83 km/h, then the dreaded chickane that makes or breaks all laps at seattle, tap the brakes and take it initially at 165-168, as u jump over the right should be low 180km/h, avoid cutting too much of the rumble as its hard to land smoothly, change to 5th at 220's crossing the line at 235+km/h.

its quite an addictive combo;) be back later on in the week with a refined lap time, cheers!

That's an unrefined lap time?!?! Your time is plenty good as it is, holl01. A better lap will just embarrass the rest of us more.

New t's:

T1 - 27.480 (seen .217)
T2 - 1:05.976
Beat a dirty ghost at the line by .018. Phew!

I'm catching up to you, Mr P!

haha I just edited my new splits in and thats just embarrassing lmao  ... get back into retirement you ;) too damn fast! .. for someone I hoped would be rustier than the cutlery on the Titanic :P

👍

Hey Jerry! any chance of a D2 slot this week for me? haha .. c'mon mate do your magic ;)

Had an afternoon session so I have some new splits.

I really have to stop these wheelies. And this is at the bottom of the hill section.:scared:
As you can tell by the picture I'm having fun with this one.

lmao.. ditto..

Just ran a few laps.. you really have to treat this with kids hands otherwise it cops rapid understeer (maybe it might be 1960's Yankee suspension + my style :scared: ) ...

28.192
1'07.633

Dan, not that long ago I could run within a second of you. Now your that far ahead it's beyond laughable.. I must be missing something :nervous:

This thing is a handful to drive fast.
For 1963? It's absolutely brilliant! Well, ok, not really. It's definitely still a handful, but the motor's nice! Haha, seriously though, I bet this thing was a handful of unimagined proportions back in the day.
EDIT: I think I hate the track more than the car. The car could be fun, especially on a smooth high speed course, it'd be a blast, it just doesn't suit this bumpy track IMO.
Well, the higher speed track you get, the more downforce you want, and this car has none, so, there's really no suitable place for this car in today's world. Except for having fun! :)

My first thoughts were "dayum", but then...

What was that about retirement!? Jeeeez.

FLYING, Dan! Good to see you stick your head back in here for a race(somewhat).
Hey Jerry! any chance of a D2 slot this week for me? haha .. c'mon mate do your magic ;)
Yeah, and a D3 spot for me please?

We'll see what happens when I actually do some laps. I think I'll get to do some later tonight. :)

Rough but oh what fun it is.

New splits for me.

T1: 27.752
T2: 1'06.870

I want to punch PD in the face right now. This is one of the most frustrating car/track combo's I've ever driven.

Hey Dan! Been long time dude! Great splits per usual mate. I tried this combo for about an hour and couldn't seem to cope with the understeery-ness with it at +20, guess I'm used to the default hp. I may try it without tcs but if memory serves this FR is a handful :scared: My T2 was a 1:06.4something :indiff: Back to COD4 more than likely this week, you guys have fun 👍

Jerome

Put in a few more laps tonight and managed to pick up about 0.5 in each of the 3 sectors.

28.233
1:08.277

Did I already say I like this combo? :dopey: :D

Kevin

I actually quite like the way this car handles so long as you keep it off the rumble strips and brake accordingly on the uphill. It's quite responsive after braking and coming out of tight cornering. And the sound, god I love the engine sound. My gf/wife had a 67 El Camino that sounded somewhat like that. I could hear her coming 2 blocks away.

Look at it this way, we're all Steve McQueen this week...

Had an afternoon session so I have some new splits.

Tap the brakes when you come down just as you need to downshift from 4th to 3rd. That'll hold you on the ground.

Amen! I owned a '72 El Camino back in the '80s, when you could have glass packs, or cherry bombs for an exhaust. If I lose the 'Vette' on the track sometimes I just sit there and let it idle..............and listen............. and remember:drool:

I also remember buying my first new car when I came back from overseas in 1970. A spanking new Mustang, Mach I with a Cleveland 351, forest green (sleeper) Sure wish I still owned it today. :ill: I fear those days are gone forever in this household. 🤬

Esh and badboy - You guys have captured the essence of this combo. Any of us that have experienced these cars know their drawbacks of poor braking and quirky suspension. But IMO, they are worth it for the exhilration of the engine sound and the raw accelration!

The only thing stock on this was the body and chassis. Pretty much all the interior was from a Chevelle minus the bench seat. Engine was a late model Z28 (305 I think) and modded with power brakes and steering, which barely worked under 5 mph. I don't generally like white vehicles but with the off-white flames, don't think it shows up in the picture that well, this thing was pretty hot. At least from this angle. :) The other side was hurting from a couple side swipes while parked on the street. Thing was so wide she had to park it partially on the sidewalk sometimes.

Anyway, back on topic. This combo is growing on me and it will be interesting to see the times once harnessed.

Anyone ever seen that episode of Fawlty Towers where he gets out out and beats his car with a stick. That's me with this race ... I'm ready to pick up the whole thing and toss it out the window. I don't think I've done a lap yet where I haven't hit something, and haven't seen a T2 under 1:10 yet.

Sometimes when I see the times people are posting here I wonder if we're even driving the same car.

:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Anyone like to describe how to go fast up the hill and not smack the wall at the end. So far I can either do that or crawl over the last two sections and then accelerate from the corner.

Sorry, just had to post it.

Oh, you bugger.

I'm too busy to race, I have a musclecar to fix! Gits!

I'm going to play with this tomorrow night, actually, I suppose it's about time I dragged the steering wheel out to get practicing for forthcoming live events.

Hmm...

Sorry, just had to post it.

Glad you did because I've never seen it.

As for today's sessions no real improvements, though it seemed so. I had a lot of better splits that were varied, so there is still time to put together a better lap. I have to admit to using TCS though.

Just put my second session in and I have to say that this combo is growing on me! I'm starting to feel at ease with the car which is not a bad thing at a street track. Managed a 0.8 improvement on overall time.

New splits:
28.286
1'07.772

Still at least half a second in there, I hope I can get it out!
