Well I had a ball with Kolyana today, driving GT4 and Burnout Revenge, killer! And just before I left we had a little discussion I would just like to throw out there, as to maybe describe why I'm having trouble with these little 2 lap deals. Here's whats going on IMO: In order to get the ball rolling on a combo like these family cup races, I like to spend some time in the practice mode getting settings down and what not ( I learned a great deal about settings last week, as I tried everyone's settings eventually, but in the end I started from scratch and just did them on my own :)) for the combo and try to get into some sort of rhythm with it. One problem is that the difference between practice mode and the race is black and white, sure my settings still apply, but the car handles SO different with the tire wear and all, that I honestly cant drive the same way for both, the braking points are different and everything. So I would like to say that I wish there was an option to CHANGE how many laps I would like to do in the family cup to anywhere from 2 to 20, that way I could actually have an applicable practice session with my F1 car and learn how it WILL react come race time. U know, set the race to like 10 laps for practice then change it to 2 laps for time submission. Now this is in no way CFM's fault obviously, but I am most likely (but NOT ALWAYS)gonna opt out of these 2 lap deals as I feel I am just getting my rhythm come the second lap and then the race is over, then I start another race and it may take me a few times to get the start right, then I lose my rhythm and have to start all over again. I'm really sorry for the long post, but this combo this week I was truly looking forward to racing my fav car, but really has turned out a little sour, again IMO; my 2 cents. But I'll still give it my best ๐Ÿ‘

I know how you feel. First of all there is a noticeable difference between practice mode and family cup. I find the turn-in isn't quite as good during the race, but the handling is fairly similar. On top of that difference, you also have cold tires on the first lap, and heated up tires on the second lap. I found it hard to adapt my braking points on the second lap, and braked slightly earlier like if it was the first lap. It's hard to get a good rythm going cuz like you said, in free practice you can do a number of consecutive laps and get a feel for the track and car. But in family cup you don't get that chance. And I find that everytime I need to restart the race I kill my rythm a little more. It's really frustrating, and I share your pain. I've got two clean races in all, submitted the best of the two. I'm done for this week. I think it is indeed Tuesday for me...

Hey thx T13R, I didnt want to just sound like I was b!tching for no reason, I just felt it had to be said. But I do have something else to add to the leaderboard:

I'm using a DS2....

I wish i could get clean laps, i see loads of people submitting new splits, and ive had one clean race all well  and it was rubbish compared to the splits ive seen...o well, cant win em all

That game is awesome! Total blast, especially with the DFP on 180 mode! Always fun to play when you get so wound up trying to be tidy with no wall or AI contact. Here you're TRYING to get AI contact with bonus points for carnage and mayhem!

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

No, no time updates this time. No wheel time today, and I still have to watch the F1GP from last night. NO SPOILERS! :^)

Looks like I'm going to need at LEAST 1.2 seconds to have a shot this week and a podium seems a long shot at best...

Kolyana
Gotcha covered. Now get off my tail!

Not to worry, I think I'm done for this week, no more time. Otherwize I would love to get off your tail and get you into my rearview, does that make any sense at all?

Hey Kolyana, much thanks for all your work on the leaderboard...good work!

Well, I'd really like to take the day off and not drive at all ... but with you breathing down my neck and my slow ending, I may not have that luxury :(

sonds like i'm skipping this week too... only 11 hours into my 24hr ring-run
doing it with the altezza touring car, don't think i'll ever get over how easy that car is to go fast in.
and even after > 1000 miles of beating the tar out of it, the car will still turn out 6'56 laps on R1's... pretty impressive car, even with dirty oil, a tweaked chassis, and super hard tires.

With all your hard work Kolyana I think you really deserve to take the next day or two off......... please!

ahahhahaha

Well, I played World Rally Championship (PS2) instead, so you can rest easy tonight ... but I will be driving again before I submit :P

Grrr this 2 lapper is hurting me, i canยดt go soft or safe to keep a clean race! But i will try to do a clean time still today.

Im running my t1 of first lap in 16.4ยดs sometimes 16.5ยดs, the T2 always 44.0 or 43.8 or .9.
Second lap, is always on 10.4 or .5 and 37.2 or sometimes in 36.9. but canยดt do a clean time lol.

I would rather go hotlaping, but thatยดs ok, i will do a clean time today. :)

Well Koly, had to have another go at it. I definitly believe that the differential settings are by far the most critical. Try a 15-20-15 for a lap, it gave me so much more responsive steering out of the corners.

16.832
45.926

11.178
40.015

Total T2 time: 1.25.941

Got my first clean time, i ran very few in family cup yet as i havenยดt been having much free time to spend, both laps were average, i can still down 0.2 from first lap and 0.4 from second. I will play more tomorrow.

Lap1

T1 - 0'16.577
T2 - 0'44.087 - messed some here, could be 43.8 or .7.

Lap2

T1 - 0'10.541
T2 - 0'37.416 - also could be a 37.0

my records are 16.28x for T1 in lap 1 and 43.6 for T2. For lap 2, iยดve been a 10.399 once and 36.9. But its very very hard to put all of these togheter and clean.

hotlaping is alot better!!! :sly:

and there it goes my lead... :( :( :(

and besides my splits are a bit better than curtis, iยดm pretty sure i lost time in the final section... maybe monday magic for me...

looking foward for the results of this round...

Yeah, I did try using the wheel for that game, just to get used to the wheel itself. However we did find that for Burnout, its much better to use the DS2 because of the quicker reaction time. Using the wheel was TONS more fun tho, especially for me since it was the most I've spent on the wheel to date.

really, thereยดs way to much wheelspin compared to the real F1 car
I beg to differ... I doubt they really hit floor it and pop the clutch to launch. The key in real life, and here, is to slip the clutch and not be flooring it.

My launch technique(I shouldn't be telling you this :nervous: ) has been to hold the throttle at about 75%, let the rpm drop to around 12,000, then GRADUALLY floor it. Not all of a sudden floor it, but gradually. Experiment and find out how fast you can floor it, and at what rpm you can start increasing throttle. This is with MY gearing, and starting in third gear. I used TCS the first day, but stopped the next day, haven't looked back.

And, I'll post my settings for those of you who are struggling and want to try something different out. I see T2 on the second lap of under 38.5 possible with these settings without too much of a sweat. Hope someone makes use of them!

Brake balance: 2/1

Suspension:
Springs: 14/14
Bound: 5/5
Rebound: 7/7
Camber: 2.8/1.5
Toe: 2/2(played around with this a LOT, ended up with 2/2 over 3/3, and gained 1 second at the end. I might try turning it down even more when I get to run again tonight, car was more stable when I turned it down, so...)

Gearing: (my version of the tranny trick that I've used since GT2)
Move final drive to 4.3, move auto to 1, move final to 2.5, extend 7th a tad...

Differential: 5/32/5 (might try lowering the accel. more later, was trying to control wheelspin)

Downforce: Full

Oh, and NO AIDS.

Enjoy!

Nice splits btw! :)

toe out on both ends... sounds like a recipe for massive understeer.

hey i had a suggestion for the next multi lapper CFM

instead of doing a single race, can we try using TIME TRIAL mode next time

and do how many laps is given back to back, and then save the REPLAY instead of the GHOST

just a suggestion~ ๐Ÿ‘

can't you set a max ammount of laps / time limit for timetrial in the options?

๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ Dont get me wrong here, I think true racers are the ones who can put many laps together consistently. Not my forte, but its great practice for hotlapping, imo. And I know many of u would think the opposite; hotlapping is great practice for races. But remember I AM lefthanded...lol.

:D

I did a T2 of 39.939 nothin special, but im so pleased to get under 40!

And with that, i'm done :)

But do you have six fingers on your right hand?

As for this weeks format, I like it. Nyah nyah! Sure, it's taken more time to get the laps that I did, but oh well. At least is wasn't another trip around the 'Ring or la Sarthe with tire wear where it'd be that much harder to keep it together for a clean submission. The problem I see with Curtis' idea of consecutive hotlaps is that you're going to be doing a lot of math in your head while driving or watching replays to determine if you've just bested your current two lap record or not. I can just see the submitted replays: It's lap 34 and 35 out of 70. Do the math, the laps are there, I swear! :^) I think that multiple hotlaps do nothing but make the fastest even faster. Even the not so fast sometimes have a fast fluke lap, but it's very rare that you have two consecutive fluke laps. OTOH, the robots/aliens/gods are more likely to string 5 laps within 0.02" of each other that are 1.5" faster than my BEST!

These two lapper races test your skills with varying levels of grip, AI, launching, all out speed, AND consistency.

Unfortunately while the mutant league gets their time on 1-3 hours of driving, mere mortals like myself have lost sleep, failing marriages, and dysfunctional kids due to the 10+ hours they've spent on the challenge... ;^)

Also, great practice for hotlapping? What's that mean? No offense, but hotlapping IS practice! :)

Know what I'd LOVE to see? Max time limits. I know that it's impossible to police, but I can dream. Say 5 hours max. That way, the time travelling cybernetic organisms still stay on top of the charts, but the occasionally fast drivers that get hot laps on the "million monkeys driving a million cars for a million years" school of WRS are weeded out, and guys like me that have fair to middlin' skills but need someone to step in and say "enough!" aren't allowed to drag down the country's GDP by skipping work and not getting further into credit card debt because of their driving and competitive addiction.

Gotta admit though that to some extent I'm driving the million monkeys strategy this week. My saving grace is that I'm still lowering my time instead of doing my home gym exercises via Logitech and hoping for my consecutive fluke laps.

How's this for a supplemental WRS? Maybe call it SWRS, for Sprint Weekly Race Series. I may have pitched this before, but here goes: I know that there won't be as much helpful discussions of T times and setups, but it'd be fun anyway. Announce the car used at the beginning of the week so you have a chance to buy/win it as necessary. Then, have an automated email server bounce the track, limitations, etc. when a registered racer requests it. From that point, you have 24 hours to submit a time. I guess the real hardcore guys can still drive 23.5 hours to get a time, but more realistically most would only have at most 3-4 hours time. I'd probably even do this above and beyond normal WRS if anyone wanted to take this on as a challenge to set up! I know that it'd reduce the amount of time agonized over the race since you know that once your day is done, it's out of your hands. Sure, a dishonest driver could work the system with two accounts, but it's all for fun, right? As of now, I drive some laps, see T times come down, drive more, discuss setup and strategy, waste time at work thinking about WRS, drive some more, eat, drive some more, take a nap, drive some more, pick the kids up from school, nap, bank on Magic Monday, and run to the computer on Tuesday like it was Christmas morning only to find coal in my stocking when I see that I'm at the bottom of my class AGAIN! :^)

Whew!!

I'll leave you all with this bit of advice: Never go in with a Sicilian when DEATH is on the line!

Also lefthanded, but I would love to have a 5 or 10 lap race every now and again, something where pitting is possibly thrown into the mix.In hotlapping ,looking for that clean lap a tenth of a second faster gets pretty frustrating at times. I spend way too many hours behind the wheel each week, only to end up in the middle of the middle division. Oh well, it's the cheapest and safest addiction I've had in my life, and I've had quite a few, so I'll keep on keepin.Good luck to all my fellow average (among the best) drivers.
