im preety sure gearing doesnt matter this week. All my times are the same whether i run 250 or 300.
im using 250 though because it seems to suit me better than 300
this is my first week using manual too :D

I try not to even look at my splits cause if they're real good I tense up and futch up!I peaked real early on this one, haven't been able to better my time in 4 days.

I got that too. I set my best time last thursday and I can't get within 0.5 of it now. It's so frustrating, I was hoping to get another 0.5 off, looks like it's not going to happen. :grumpy:

On some tracks where the Splits are right before a corner, I started to put a little bit of masking tape over it, because I know that if it's a good one, I'll stuff up the next corner. But it didn't work because I just ended up looking at the position indicator, and there is only so much of my TV I'm willing to tape up.

Now that's funny!

I know what you mean though, someone called it being 'clock-locked', can't remember who.

Inveterate sufferer here too!

Gonna submit also, can't improve, getting madder and madder!

Off topic!
Did anyone else see Topgear tonite?

Brill show as always, with Dame Ellen MacArthur not only being the fastest person to sail around the world, but also the fastest person round the track too! Fantastic lap!

And next week...........only the fastest production car that can carry a passenger, in the world!

1001 Bhp, w-16 engine, AWD, the widest ever produced road tyres.........

Yes it's the..............

I'll be away from home this week too, and I don't know yet if I can get connected to the Internet from the hotel I'll stay in.
I made sure that race #35 will be posted on time, but again I can't promise that the results will be posted soon after deadline. I'll do my best.

OK got some more laps in.. i really dont see it getting much faster without giving myself a migraine.. I saw a 15.620 T1, but crapped my pants and messed up the next corner :irked: :irked: :banghead: (Casio's got a good method with the masking tape there, I might have to try it. ) but overall, it seems pretty good for my first time back in lets see, 32 weeks.

T1 - 15.746
T2 - 35.192
T3 - 1'02.454

I havent seen Top Gear this week, I've yet to download it.. but Ive been dying to see the veyron episode ever since the first in the series.

ok didnt get much time on this as im not living at home atm, did get a half hour or so in tho..

t1:16.169
t2:36.045
t3:1.03.216

didnt cut the chicane altho it didnt seem to make a blind bit of difference :P i used a top speed of 240, not sure why other heads are using a higher ratio.. surely your losing out on accell in places and not getting the max speed you would if the straights were longer :odd:

first time entering wrs, lets see how i done.. most of you lot seem pretty hardcore gt peoples :ill:

Hey Casio, the masking tape bit was brilliant....I used a hammer and chisel. Survival of the fittest ain't workin!

Just wanted to come in and mention...

Time Submitted. :D

Nothing new since a few days ago when I posted a 1'02.6.

Good luck to all of you.
Till next time,

New times from me:

T1: 0'15.809
T2: 0'35.180
T3: 1'02.295

However, I have a concern about the final corner on this lap. I have checked it and I believe it to be legal but I don't want to submit a dirty lap. Would a reputable racer with a PAL system check my replay before I submit?

Sure, I've submitted so I can't learn anything from it anyway :) I'll check it for ya, just email it to mr_cruwys@yahoo.com.au

slight improvement by me at last.

T1: 16.413
T2: 36.360
T3: 1'04.395
ash, you're a second down by T1, and you then carry that extra second around the rest of your lap, judging by your T's.

Try to get a 15 second T1, cos it loox like you're doing everything else well.

You need to take heed: the first few corners over the crest will yield a faster T1 if you dab the brake to set yourself up for each one, rather than trying to get through them all flat-out. Dont take your foot off the gas though! just dab as well.

try to keep the car smooth through the longer left before the first tunnel, and use the whole width of the course, and try 400KPH just once, and see what a difference it makes.

Im not saying that the gearing im using is the right one to use, as other faster drivers are caning my ass with a totally different gear ratio, but try it and see the way the car responds, just maybe it will suit your style.

Either way man, you just need to find a whole second through the first few bends to get a much better time.

GT is almost pre-cognition in some cases, by that i mean doing things before you think you should.

Try turning for the sweepers at speed before you would normally, and let the car drift/understeer into position rather than into the middle of the course.

Good luck everyone.

:irked:👍

T1: 16.345
T2: 36.289
T3: 1'03.975

looks like my first sector time's what let me down. I don't run the WRC cars on tarmac much, getting used to them's quite tricky

Maaan, Vexd, been doing what you advised and im faster in every sector, i saw a 15.9xx at T1, 35.8xx at T2 and 1'03.8 at T3 but my final lap time was 4 tenths slower than my current best lap.

Wtfs up with that? i didnt make any mistakes on the last 2 turns.

Well, as odd as it may seem, chances are... You did mess up in the last sector. :(

Just keep at it. 👍
You will nail that last sector eventually and when you do it will feel great.
I would try to give you some advice but I can't really say anything other than "don't smoke"!

That's not related to cigarettes either.

I'm saying to make sure you have no smoke coming from your tires in those final turns.
Smoke means slow.
Smooth means smoke-less and smoke-less means fast. 👍

Good luck. :D

I took on Vexd's tall gearing, though not to 400. I set it at 350 and it did help. Kudos to you Vexd.

T1: 0:15.976
T2: 0:35.635
T3: 1:03.093

EDIT:
Scratch those previous times. Upon more review of the lap, it was dirty with 3 wheels off. :grumpy:

However, I got better times:

T1: 0:16.218 :yuck:
T2: 0:35.752
T3: 1:03.035

The tall gearing is amazing, although i think the biggest thing is to make sure youre in the powerband as much as possible, probably with the taller gearing putting the engine at lower rpms at critical points on the track a lift or stab at the throttle doesnt upset the car as much, making a bigger difference in handling than anything else. I checked it out at the test track and the taller gearing is slower (edit: in acceleration) by itself.

My best times came with the gearing set at 310, the shift light is just starting to blink in 5th gear at the end of the backstraight.

When I tried the 300 setting, I found the car bogged down too much, missing the powerband. So I went with 260 and coincidentially (sp?) so did Curtis, lucky me :)

Im surprized, I just ended up a gear lower in most corners. It just felt to me like the car turned better and didnt seem to get as upset with the higher settings.

But hey man if it works for ya go for it. Everyone drives a little different, I know I do.

No doubt about that. Its really crazy to see how different the settings can be for different drivers to get fast times.

I guess that proves that setup is more art than science.
