GT4 WRS Week 49 : "Swiss swinging"

Back to racing this week:

Current splits are okay, but still 4 seconds plus slower than Dan.

As for my lap, there were a couple of places (exiting the tight left hairpin near the start and into the wide sweeping left about mid-lap) where I come super close to hitting the cobblestone wall and the fluorescent orange plastic fencing but I can't tell for sure if it's a hit. Replay / photo shows maybe a mudflap hitting or something like that, but NO SPEED LOSS on the analyzer.

I've gone back and purposefully hit the wall and the plastic fence and noticed obvious speed losses, but I'm wondering with really light glancing blows on rally that they don't show up? Or were my two near misses THAT close!? Sure look questionable on replay. I know that silly little non-existant wall drags on street courses usually end up with at least 1 mph loss in one frame of the max resolution analyzer... I know I can go faster so the legality of that particular lap isn't in question per se, but just in case later in the week I have another close call...

Can we say that for this week that the absoulute proof for wall touches is the same as other weeks? Analyzer over photo?

Thanks,

-Scott

The car is just a beast

My T3 is around 1'13 or 1'12...I guess I just can't remember on how to throttle control properly on these beasts on rally racing...it's been several months that I have played this game for more than an hour.

I'll try my best, it's a big challenge for me :)

Well I keep knocking time off my lap and can still see more:

T1: 0'26.137
T2: 0'47.707
T3: 1'07.530

I still think there's another 0.5 - 1.0 to get so we'll see...I really like this combo 👍

Are we alowed to add weight to the car because it isnt on the first page and i've seen it said through the posts even by flat-out

It's much easier with more weight

Whilist it doesn't say you can in the first post. I would make the assumption that you are allowed to add weight. The weight is set at -10 usually because there is no way of telling what weight the person is actually running, so everyone is allowed to use the lowest.

As adding weight will not make you any time advantage (That I know of), I would think it would be safe to say that you are allowed to change the weight. But maybe wait for Flat-O's ruling if you are still unsure.

Yeah, it's ok to adjust the weight to whatever you like for this week. I've just updated post #1. I started myself with -20%power and 0% weight yesterday, and I don't know if I'll manage faster times at +20% power and -10% weight.

This combo rocks Cyril...having the car perpindicular to the corner is just so much fun, even when I crash it's fun :sly:

The toughest corner in my opinion is the corner straight after T1, there's a series of jumps that so easily throw the car around so that you're looking back at the T1 checkpoint...nevertheless fun all the same 👍

It's an interesting corner indeed. I put the car sideways before the final jump, drop down to 3rd gear and wait until the wheels are back on track then feather the throttle.
I had a lap where the car span on 360° after having touched the ground, and yet without touching the track border. Unfortunately I wasted the lap in the turn after T2.

i have decided to stop sulking about this combo and gave it a crack, but +20% power an -10% weight was too much for mew so i ran 0% power and 0% weight which is what i reckon should have happened this week - would have made the racing much closer than it is)

and what do you know i find this far more enjoyable on the stock settings than with the high power low weight settings usually applied in Arcade Mode, unusual coz i normally like it with the most power...

and came up with some reasonable splits after about 15 laps or so

T1: 27.535
T2: 49.118
T3: 1'09.475

probably another 1-2 seconds in it for me, and seeing as i enjoy the settings as standard, i might go and chase those seconds over the weekend...

Hee hee!!! Yes! If the game didn't prevent the car from flipping over, I'd be on my roof half the time at that point in the track! And at the big jump just before T3, too...

I wonder if that's going to change in GT5? You'll be able to damage the car, I hear... It would seem that flipping the car would be a logical step to take... That's really the only unrealistic thing about GT4 -- no damage, and the car always stays shiny-side-up.

my first time, and all i can say is that i am a real road driver, rally is something for FREAKS^^ haha

...no that isnt my final time, or a spelling mistake, its T3. I was bored of crashing so reversed instead , lol. Much safer IMO, and its great fun to try and drift in reverse.

Had a lot of fun racing with this combo. I surprised people are afraid of this one, though...

T1 28.112
T2 50.455
T3 1'11.554

Not the fastest of times, but I'm happy with them. I know I lost a good bit of time on the sweeper after the uphill and the turn on to the final straight, but hey, you do what you can. Now on to the JGTC pre-season races...

It's REAL hard to stop hitting the walls... In fact, I've had exactly ONE totally, completely, undoubtedly clean lap (which I posted a couple days ago... And it was SLOW!) All the rest were either grossly unclean or at the very least a bit questionable...

But this combo is still fun -- I think the folks who aren't posting are just embarrassed by their slow times... Wish they'd do it anyway, and just have fun with it.

My first clean spilts, T1 & T2 I'm happy with, but from T2 to the end of the lap sucks as I was being a bit of a pansy trying to keep at least one bloody lap clean!!!!

T1 27.098 (26.8xx)
T2 49.428 (48.6xx)
T3 1'10.249 (1'09.2xx)

Times I have seen are in brackets, if only I could get them all together in 1 clean lap! 💡 :grumpy:

Good combo, Cyril 👍 Definitely a challenge, but that's a very good thing :)

0'27.4 (saw 26.3)
0'48.8 (saw 47.4)
1'08.2 (saw 1'07.2)

Knocked off almost two seconds at the line. Based on my splits, I'd say there's another second and a half in it for me (if I can keep it clean).

For the whoops and the right-hander after T1, the most consistent way to do it seems to be to approach along the inside (left side) of the track, running parallel to the edge of the grass. Brake lightly before the first bump, and go over it straight. This will move you toward the middle of the track moving in a straight line. Dab the breaks again before the second bump and turn in before you get to the crest.

From T3 to the finish should be flat out. If you lift or break, you're throwing away time. You can make the last S-Bend with your foot on the floor, but you have to start the drift gently, and stay committed. Stick close to the low stone wall on the left, then turn in gently. If done right, you end up in the middle of the track, not way over to the left. If you're hitting the outside wall, you're either missing the turn in, or turning in too rough.

I hear you on that one. I was freaked to post my first time so I didn't. Posted my second time though, cause, why not?? I lost interest in the race but I thought my replay looked cool enough so it was worth the effort.. 👍

Ok, back again clean and de-pansy-fied! :P

T1 26.711
T2 48.487
T3 1'08.841

Still losing tons of time T2-T3, compared to the Div1 aliens, but overall this lap was 1.5s quicker than my previously posted splits.
Think I'm done with this one.....:ill:

I managed to shave 2.5 seconds off of my final time (although it took over 3 hours of practice!)
New splits:
T1: 27.146 (saw 26.xxx a few times)
T2: 48.835
T3: 1'08.346

I'm gonna keep at it, and hopefully manage to get another .5 or more seconds off of my final time. I know it's possible, since i've ran better laps but botched the final turn :(

had another go at this with +10% power and -10% weight and pulled another 3 seconds off my time, fairly good splits but i have seen faster...

T1: 26.815 (seen 26.5)
T2: 47.953 (seen 47.8)
T3: 1'07.905 (fastest time i saw)

hope to find another half a second by Tuesday, but i have some busy days coming up so i may not be able to get anymore laps in...:indiff:

why the hell would u be using =10 percent power, u will never beat my times with that setting. dumbo

You would get less wheel spin with less power. Thus, more power actually transferred into forward momentum, rather then wasted spinning dust into the air.

Dumbo.
