At the screen where you select to start the race, select Options (available next to the Quick-tune icon) and then Race. There you can set the laps. Set it to 1 for this race. :)

I thought the option for the number of laps was under "Arcade" in the Options menu...

No way. I've abandoned soooo many hot laps because I nudge the back of the AI!

I vote for sticking with No Contact.
Don't get me wrong here, I'm not suggesting that rear-enders(where 'we' have braked too early, or too late), side-swipes (where 'we' have tried to force a way past going into a corner, and failed), and basic AI getting stupid and insisting that 'he' should have the racing line instead (where 'we' have tried to draft-pass and not got enough speed from the slipstream) kind of contact.

That kind of contact can and should be avoided at all costs.

But for the AI to screw-up, get all squirrely, and then plain and simple get in the way, or give 'us' a tap, and 'we' couldn't avoid it.
That kind of contact can completely ruin an otherwise good run, and with no blame attatched to 'us'.

Just getting sick of restarting a lap after 3/4's of it has been completed cleanly.
It's not like it's normal track we are driving this week, where all that is wasted is a minute or so, and we can either carry on and do another lap in less than a minute's time, or just re-start.

Not having a rant, or wanting to start an argument.:)

Just raising a valid point, IMO

You are right.
It is there, and in the options menu off the main menu.

Ok I never said it should be illegal - or that the skill involved was trivial, just to make that clear:tup:

OK... That's clear... :)

I appreciate your point on the slipstreaming missions, however..... what are they trying to teach you exactly?
Are they,
A) Trying to teach you how to lower you whole lap time by drafting a faster car all the time?
Or....
B) Trying to teach you how to draft to add another layer of skill to your overtaking abilities??
Or maybe a bit of both??

A bit of both, it seems -- you cannot win the mission if you stay behind the other cars the whole time. In order to win, you have to pass them, then let them catch up, then draft them again, and pass them again, etc...

The issue for me is that there is an element of the unknown in this weeks race and everyone is searching for anything to make them faster, most weeks with AI present the aim of the game is to get past cleanly and as soon as possible, this week its the opposite!! Funny that......

True enough -- most times you'd WANT to pass the AI in the first turn, so it'd be behind you and you wouldn't have to worry about it... (Although I've had a couple laps where I passed the AI, and then he tapped me on the back bumper... Stupid jerk. :grumpy: )

I just feel that drafting is great when used to strategically pass cars at certain points on a given track, this seems different to me somehow, Flat-out was the first to ask what we thought about it and Im just voicing my opinion of the matter. I would rather we all raced with the only mystery being what cars people are in, not how much of a tow they might have picked up into Schwedenkreuz.....
Good luck to those who use it though:tup:

I can see your point, I suppose... I personally will not be using the AI to draft -- I just can't seem to keep myself from popping him in the back end at least once... :banghead:

well had a stab at it again this time with different car and managed

2'06.495
x'26.785
6'38.485

lost about 1 second overall when combining my best splits in 1 lap, great combo flat-out, btw, in any car u use, always completly max out each gear and shift at the very last possible moment, particularly on the uphill section, sometimes i even over reved it and lost .1, but its worth it

Nice splits Dan 👍

But what's with the 'x' in the second one?

Either you blew away everyone by a minute, stopped, got out, walked around the car for a bit and had a smoke, read the paper, got back in again, and finished the lap in-front of everyone anyway!

Or

You're just trying to screw with our heads!:sly:

Neil

Blegh. Ok. My current split times are:

T3: 2.11.985
T6: 4.37.887
T9: 6.57.087

Using a DFP. I'll be putting in a load more laps tomorrow.

those opposing digits that he has from so much use of the DS2 has made his typing a little funky... :P

Damn Holl, time to go back and beat those times! I havent raced since I tapped first place. If I can hold the course after my 2.05 T3 I could prolly run a time like that but we will see.

Yay, I did it! Still can trim off about 1-2 seconds because of two screw ups, one right after T6, and the other right before straightaway.

T3- 2'05.680

T6- 4'25.823

T9- 6'38.393

StrokerAce since you're so worried about trusting someone with your mem card, how about one of us sending you one to put your replay on, then sending it back (FEDEX, UPS or registered post with a tracking number so it doesn't get lost!) so we could convert it to a .max replay file for everyone to see. What have you got to lose? If you nicked my mem card and don't return it, then everyone on here would get to know you as cheat and a thief. (I'm quite sure you're not, but you're not running away with my spare card either! :sly:  ) So, what do you think?
I'll pay for the card & shipping if you're willing, I figure it'll be worth it just to see how to drive the 'ring so damned quickly!!! If there's someone closer to Florida, or in Florida, that would be willing to do it instead, please come forward, since it'll cost a bit more to ship to and from California.
Also where's the cheapest place to get a new mem card from these days?
It doesn't have to be anything special, just a basic 8MB PS2 card since it'll only get used for a single replay verification - anyone know any good online deals? Post a link, or PM me with it.

^ Bugger, forgot to post the point I wandered in here to make in the first place, after that post!

T3 2'13.079
T6 4'39.357
T9 6'58.459

As I mentioned earlier, I'm not expecting to be anywhere near fastest with this car, since it was chosen purely on personal preference, not performance.
It's running exactly 6.000 PWR though, and I lost some time before T1 passing the AI, but since it's supposed to be a race week, I made something of a race of it, and have aimed for the highest number of A-spec points won!
Using AI set at +10 and on N3 tyres, I raced a Mazda Mazdaspeed 6 '05 and won 152 A-spec points, with a winning margin of 9.598s!

It's the only lap I've managed to keep clean, in my limited running time and it'll be my final submission since I won't have any more time to run. :(
Even saying that, the sectors after T6 are a little over cautious, and there's a moment between Wippermann and Eschbach where it nearly goes hideously wrong! :scared: I'm also deeply unhappy with my line through Galgenkopf, but in the end I'm overjoyed :D that I managed to get a clean submittable lap in at all this week, with RL issues being as they are! :indiff:

All of you have fun until submission time now!:)

💡
Any chance of relaxing the no contact rule to allow AI screw-ups Cyril?
(You never know?:odd:)

Neil

I would say no way since I find that the higher risk of contact balances pretty well the time saved by slipstreaming.
I agree it's exceptionally frustrating to be hit by AI while you are running cleanly and have no way to avoid it. Don't slipstream and you won't have the problem ;)

i finally broke into the 6´40´s.... a very high that is... hard to tell where i´m losing time, but its all about late braking i guess... goal for this week is 6´45, just to not be embaressed...

2´09´7xx
4´33´5xx
6´49´977

tried to slipstream, but the damn NSX run away from me after T3... using only 3 cars... i did found an old car that was a lovely ride, but no gears to run in the nurb. stupid arcade mode:tdown: no way to change that:tdown:
back with more tomorrow

Slightly better splits using DFP with AI set at +8 and on sport soft (S3) tyres, I raced a Nissan Skyline Sedan 350GT-B '02 and won 157 A-spec points, with a winning margin of 1.393 secs.

T3 - 2'09.721
T6 - 4'31.805
T9 - 6'46.646

Thinking of submitting this because i can't see myself going much quicker. Not in the car i'm in anyway.

Board Updated

I have to agree with Smallhorses, I need to see your replay verified Stroker. Anyone who can make a post, then beat holl01's splits and post them half an hour later needs to prove it. I understand there are Nurburgring specialists and I'm sure you are one of them but to beat holl01 is such an incredible feat I need to have it verified...absolutely nothing against you though buddy, it's just for my own sanity 👍

am not having any fun with the AI at the moment have them on +9 and S3's and i pass them before T3, put them on +10 and S3's and i can't keep up with them... :(

anywayz, i am just trying to chase them for now...

some new splits

T3: 2'07.917
T6: 4'29.735
T9: 6'43.730

absolutely ringing the neck out of this thing i can't see myself going much quicker than a 6'42 at T9 this week, in either of the "quicker cars" i have tried...

This is the reasone I left the Forza Motorsport boards and came back here. I remembered how nice you guys all were. Yes there are still a couple Hard***s out there but you cant do much with them. Call BS all you want, but I know that I'm legit, If I'm cheating it wouldnt matter because, I'm already going unoffcial.

I've already made it known to Flat_out that im taking a DQ this week, Ill just be unofficial, I wont even count it as a podium or a week. Nurburgring is just about the only track I race all the time, on any game. Practice makes perfect. Like right now im about to mess around on this track and just run a Viper SRT-10, because I want a little speed going around the ring.

Thanks smallhorses, I talked to drew in St. Petersburg, and I just decided to go Unofficial, saves everyone a bunch of work. If this happens again, ill be sure to hit one of you up.

You're offered a free chance to prove yourself, (it's not really much work for me to send a mem card to you, just put a label on an envelope, and enclose a pre-paid one for you to return it to me, since you're not prepared to trust anyone with your own precious mem card.) and yet you're turning it down, citing that by going unofficial your not obligated to prove anything.
To me this reeks of manure, to put it politely. ;)
What exactly are you afraid of? :boggled: You have an opportunity to leave a lot of sceptics with a lot of egg on face!

I'd just like to submit my 6'27.000 T9 time as unofficial this week too!

I live in the metro Atlanta area, much closer to Florida, and I'd be VERY willing to do what Smallhorses is proposing. NOT because I think you're lying about your times, Stroker, but just because I've GOT to see this incredible run!! I'm totally DYING of curiosity!!

So I'm offering to do what Smallhorses is proposing -- I'll send you my spare mem-card (it only cost me $8 used at EB Games anyway) with a pre-paid envelope to get it back to me after you've copied your replay onto it... Not a problem at all! I just REALLY want to see your replay -- plus it would be a way for you to be official, and actually BEAT Holl01!! That just NEVER happens, and I REALLY want to see it! (No offense meant to Holl01, of course.) I'm sure just about EVERYONE wants to see this replay!

So PLEASE don't choose to go unofficial with this run -- let me help you verify it, so you can be official! Plus it will benefit everyone who gets to view the replay -- there's GOT to be plenty to learn from watching it.

StrokerAce,
Before your post (#168) I was going to post to remind others that it doesn’t matter how fast you think someone is, because there will always be someone faster. I suppose it would’ve been my attempt to give you some slack because I didn’t like some comments that were made in your direction. However, your last post destroyed that opportunity after turning down such a generous offer.

You say how nice these guys were, and yet you treat them with contempt by disrespecting the WRS with your ”I’m taking a DQ this week” and your refusal to be accommodating to the offer given to you.

I’ve already used one saying from the OLR community, here’s another for ya:

Put up or shut up.

Hey StrokerAce, I already PM'd you and offered to make a replay from your mem card since you're only across the state, but if you're worried about your mem card, I'll offer the same as a few others have; PM me your address and I'll send you one of my mem cards with a self addressed, postage paid env for you to send back to me. This way you risk nothing and get a golden chance to prove your ability and quiet the non-believers, cause it seems the list is growing...you need to back up your times or you'll never get any respect or acknowledement here at the WRS. Come on, prove the doubters wrong and put and end to this nonsense.

On a side note to Cyril, I don't think unofficial times should even be allowed or posted. I'll start submitting unofficial times every week that will make the Div1 gods look like they're on bicycles. It just goes against the spirit of the WRS, you're either in or out, no game playing. Just my 2 cents again.

I must admit that I don't quite see a reason to refuse the offer that was made twice. :odd:

As for submitting an unofficial time, I'd like to remind you that no time has been submitted so far. The only thing that has happened is that people have posted T-times.
We can't decently disqualify someone only based on the T-times he posts, can we ? We can be suspicious, disbelieving or admiring, or whatever you may think about it, but this is the WRS, not Minority report, we can't penalize someone who hasn't yet broken the rules :D
I'll stick to what the rules say, and to what I said and confirmed to StrokerAce. I'll ask a replay, and if he can't provide one his submitted time will be disqualified. That's what has been happening a few times to some of us, and expecting it long before the deadline doesn't change anything to the way it works.
It just provides us with some reasons to gossip :D

Ooooh, good analogy! :sly: I like that! 👍

Smallhorses:- Holder of the unofficial world record for Mens 100m Sprint in 8.000s. What? Just 'cos none of you saw me do it and I didn't get it on video doesn't mean it didn't happen, right? :sly: :P

No man, I saw it, then I went and became an F1 driver with Dan Wheldon as my backup.

No Cyril, I understand what you say, but if someone posts splits with no intention of submitting a confirmable (is that a word?) replay , then it's just make believe clutter that could eventually make the leaderboard a joke...literally. We could have any number of new drivers posting Space Shuttle times just for grins....it's that slippery slope dealy thingy.
Bottom line , if you're not a Replay Supported Driver, and have no intention of becoming one, then put up or shut up and keep your splits to yourself.
On a side note, I want to believe he ran that time, and he very well could have, but when you beat the best of the best, nobody is going to believe it until someone known here sees it. But that ain't gonna happen, he obviously doesn't have any intention of letting anyone see it, which by itself makes him and his time suspicious. He could make life a lot easier by proving everone wrong (boy, I'd do it in a New York second just for the personal gratification) Oh well, not my problem, I'm going back to worrying about myself some more. Have a car show this weekend and I think there's a piece of dust on the intake manifold that I must get rid of before they judge my car.

:embarrassed: Shhhhh! No-one's supposed to know it was downhill, on ice and with a 100mph tailwind!!!!! :dopey:

I'm struggling to figure out why, StrokerAce, for someone whose favourite quote is listed as "Prove you're a man on the track, not off it" by Dale Earnhardt, and has possibly the biggest chance ever of proving a huge "on-track" manhood here, isn't going to take it!
Oh, apart from the obvious reason....:sly:

OK!!!!!

I found out why im running, supurb laps... and it really confused the hell out of me.. I know I checked, and checked again.... I'm running Sport medium tires....

I am going to apoligize to everyone now. I was going to be silent for the remaider of the week and (just got a PM from someone--email notice) let you all just keep talking. But I decided to look back and see if ANYTHING was different from the guidelines. The first couple of races I had done were in N3 tires but I guess I forgot to switch one night and just went with it.

You can all calm down now, and stop yelling at me and mocking me. I dont take insults stuff in offense so if this kept going you wouldnt have gotten an inch off me. But I am truely and deeply sorry, for all of the trouble this may have caused.

yeah, don´t worry. we are cool:) but just hurry up and get a max drive. it will be worth it. i had to import one, but it was really necessary. i´ve been there, on that unofficial side. its better to be clean and replay proved, things only get better:tup:
