Thanks StrokerAce! Apology accepted! 👍

Sorry if I've seemed a little intimidating regarding this, :guilty: but I'm glad you've had the bottle to admit a simple mistake, which anyone among us could have made, and I wish you luck with the rest of your racing during the week.
My offer still stands regardless, if you'd like a chance to verify your lap I'm happy to help out, and make this your first official week. :)
Admitting a simple mistake has done your reputation more good here than sticking to your guns would have done to tarnish your reputation. 👍

Please understand, we know holl01 is an alien! But he's happy to share hints tips and replays with us, to help us all improve!
We're all hungry to become better racers, and if someone quick comes along, we want to learn from you too!

just had a bloody 4'28.5xx at T6 and promptly dropped 1 second to T9:dunce: and another to the finish, ending up being half a seocnd slower than my previous best when i could have been over a second faster... still well behind Dan but at least i know i should be able to crack a 642, maybe even a 6'41 at T9...

Well, finally have some splits to report. Nothing blazing, tons of time left out there, but I'm not sure if I have it in me to try to bring 'em down. It's just too much of a PITA searching for the right draftin' buddy, and though the car is brilliant for the track as set up, it's just too gimmicky especially with such a long track. Not really that tough to keep it on track this week, but I may be done.

Perhaps I'll try the BC6 qualifyers...

T3 2'08.832
T6 4'32.042
T9 6'46.663

BTW, on Sport Medium tires with stock power and weight, my car has a very similar performance potential to when weight minimized and power adjusted...

BTW, I was drafting an NSX on this lap if I'm allowed to say. I lost the draft completely before Dottenger Hohe (or whatever that kink is called).

Thanks Stroker for being honest, plenty of people make minior mistakes like that, better to have it sorted now 👍

I hate looking at the leaderboard at the moment, the next person up from me is 2 seconds quicker...finding 2 seconds is gonna be tough work?!? But...I'm a competitive bastard and I'll keep fighting :sly:

I also want to have a go at the qualifiers for BC but looking at the leaderboard it's gonna be damn tough work, SHig, MinorShunt and hotboi haven't even had a run yet

StrokerAce
OK!!!!!

I found out why im running, supurb laps... and it really confused the hell out of me.. I know I checked, and checked again.... I'm running Sport medium tires....
Don't worry about it. It's easily done. I know i've done it before. Hope you get a chance to run with the correct tyres. Then we can see what a self-confessed "Ring" specialist you really are. 👍

Finally! New splits for me that I'm feeling better about:

T3: 2'09.228
T6: 4'31.545
T9: 6'48.005

Oddly enough the only corner close to being dirty is the very first one, I moved very very very very very....very close to the wall, but I'm extremely confident it's clean 👍 I may send it to Cyril for verification before submission time though 👍

I finally had a chance to run this, and I saved a clean replay. Slow, but clean. There are several brakings where I have one wheel in the grass and almost go spinning, but I manage to always keep 2 or 3 wheels on the track.
Sometimes it's the 2 front wheels on the track and the 2 rear wheels on the grass, but hey, that's clean anyway.
T3 = 2'16.996
T6 = 4'48.448
T9 = 7'12.968

Now I just need to try and catch up the ZZ-II which finished 30 seconds ahead :ouch:

I am going to apoligize to everyone now. I was going to be silent for the remaider of the week and (just got a PM from someone--email notice) let you all just keep talking. But I decided to look back and see if ANYTHING was different from the guidelines. The first couple of races I had done were in N3 tires but I guess I forgot to switch one night and just went with it.

You can all calm down now, and stop yelling at me and mocking me. I dont take insults stuff in offense so if this kept going you wouldnt have gotten an inch off me. But I am truely and deeply sorry, for all of the trouble this may have caused.

~~Jaymes
It takes a real gentleman to apologize when wrong, my hat off to ya. Glad you didn't keep silent it could have really hurt your reputation. Now get some crappy tires on and give it a go, cause even with the crap tires you still gotta be hella fast (quote from Cartman) I once again again say I admire your courage in the face of all us getting in your face!!! Well done mate!!

Managed to shave another .5 off at the line with these:

T3 - 2'09.021
T6 - 4'31.238
T9 - 6'46.370

Well,
I've finally started to really get involved with the "race design" for this week.
By that I mean... :dunce::lol:

AI:
Difficulty 10, SS tires.
Working back down to at lowest 7.
10 gives me cars in the 1400 to 1600 KG range with "high" hp. 7 gives me "lower" hp in the 1200KG range.

So far the fastest trick is to let them rule the race entirely and hope I can catch a draft. :ouch:
However, I'm working on that magic setup for my car (which I am sure some of you must be using).

Until I've got more news on my progress... 👍

Oh and btw, T9: #'49.4??
And strocker...
Honest mistakes happen.:dopey:
Next time- try to properly check your race specs before "defending" the time. 👍
Usually the WRS crowd is right-on about identifying odd laps.

Argh... I tried doing the drafting thing, and not very hard, but decided I'd rather spend my time perfecting my line. I just don't want to deal with the hassle right now of doing that. So, anyway, I can see myself getting a 2'09 flat, or, if I'm really lucky, lower, at T3. So far, I've managed a 2'09.2xx, and a 2'09.009 while chasing an NSX that promptly was gone afterwards. At T6, I'm hoping for a 4'32.xxx, not sure if I've seen it yet, but maybe once. At T9, I just saw a 6'48.7xx, but it was dirty. If I do everything to the best of my ability, I can probably see a 6'46 with this car. Now, time to go get some fast, CLEAN splits!

I'll be trying hard this week, I love this combo, love this track, and love this car! Not to mention, it all works together!!! Thanks Cyril!!! 👍 👍 👍!

Not sure my car choice is the quickest, but then again... neither am I

Sorry :sly: though we could use a little levity in here:D

Me and the "ring" :nervous: I can't tell you how long it took to get gold :grumpy:

My splits are finaly coming down as I adjust my style to the car choice. I wanted to improve with a specific type this week. What it likes and what throws me off the track. Wish I knew how to use the anylizer. Another of the long "wish list" :)

Stroker, I've been following the threads this past week. I had a simular problem, in what ?, my second or third race. It also was a wrong tire choice. I chalked it up to being a newbie and my lack of attention to details.

Overall, you will not find a better group of people 👍 Over the coming weeks you'll get a chance to see where you really are in the overall scheme of things. We are all chasing Hol0   I'f I'm 2 seconds or so behind him, I'm doing alright 👍

I'm new here myself  I'm sure your times with the right tires are still going to eat my lunch :nervous: as I'm in Div 2 and struggle with the ring. For me it's not where I place each week, it's finding the differnece between pushing hard and overdriving right now. Putting in a clean lap this week is almost as tough as last weeks run :(

One day, when you do get a way to post, I'd like to see your line around this place. I'm always digging for ways to get quicker :D and someday I may have to race here again :indiff: I love the track, as it has just about everything in it 👍 that's part of my problem :dunce: it has everything in it :scared:

Speaking of which.... 👍 Cyril 👍 thanks for not only the guide  but the chance to explore different rides. Despite my struggles, great combo this week 👍

No new splits today, but I did win "Best of Show" with my Chevelle in todays car show, but it was hot out there and I was parked under an oak tree which kept me really busy keeping the car clean until the Judges came by. Got 175 out of 200 points and a sunburn. Sorry for off topic but you guys are the car lovers in my life.

Nowt new from me today, too much else going on.

Back to it tomorrow.

And Congrat's Andy.👍 👍 👍

You must be stoked!
Neil

New fastest lap from me. Problem is, the car I was racing against veered over behind me and clipped my back end without me knowing anything about it. I only knew about it when I viewed the replay. Split times were:

T3: 2.11.069
T6: 4.36.111
T9: 6.55.730

I'll leave it for Flat-Out to decide if my split-times and overall lap would qualify as clean. I'm quite happy to dismiss this lap if he says so. :)

Question?

Do we have to beat the AI. You obviously didn't.

I much prefer putting them on plus 10 with soft sports tires and drafting them for most of the track until the end where they just pull away.

I can go 3 to 4 seconds faster this way.

Thanks Luke

Well Cyril,
You've done it. 👍

Not only did you create a race that changed my initial opinion, but you also created a race that kept me attached to GT4 for a full day of fun.
(I needed that, hadn't done it since I got a job a while back  )

Today was all experimentation with the AI and whatnot. :banghead:
Found a few good competitors and even recorded a clean race.
However, I'm still looking for 2 seconds to come off the time and maybe more depending on the AI setup (which I am still working on).

In any case, I just wanted to stop in and say Thanks Flat-Out, You Made An Awesome Race!

It'd be great to take the helmet off and have the wind blow through my hair. New splits got me 3 seconds faster overall.

T3: 2:10.262
T6: 4:35.425
T9: 6:54.828

I'm trying to find the right setting for the AI so I can use him more.

nope you don't have to beat them... and what car were you racing against on +10 i have had 2 NSX's, an STi, r34 gtr etc and i can't catch them...

so i have been using AI -10...

I'm usually at +7 to +9 with Sport hards, but the array of cars they throw at you is like they used some sort of random generator, great for the Lottery, but sucks for GT4. You set at +8 and get a car that you pass before the first sector, so you go back and set at +9 and you get a rocket that is long gone before you can read it's emblem. I had a '68 Camaro, an old Vette, a few concept cars, the RX7 several times, and dozens of others, even had a Silverado Pick-up. Spending way too much time looking for the right combo, but at least I'm learning the course better. Although I still can't do Mission 34, I'm like 5 seconds short. Having fun Cyril!!

yeah i was passing the other car by T3 when i had it on +9 but couldn't catch the other car on +10 so i gave up with the slipstreaming

here are my splits from the lap i am going to submit...

T3: 2'07.527
T6: 4'29.435
T9: 6'43.041

TIME SUBMITTED, time to put some effort into the BC6 qualifiers :mischievous:

no you can select sport tyres initially, so that the AI you race against will have those tyres as well, but once in the race menu you have to change you own tyres back to Normal tyres, whilst the AI retains the Sports tyres... not the clearest explanation but i hope it helps...

Thirdeye
Wait, we can run Sports tires? I thought it was only Normal tires?

No, but you can in your initial selection take sports tyres, forcing the AI to run on them, meaning that they should run way ahead of you, or far enough ahead for you to gain a slipstream advantage. However, before you start the race, and you go into the options screen to manipulate your weight setting to -10% and power setting so as not to go under the 6.000 WPR ratio, you must then set your own tyres back to N3. (well, actually any Normal tyre, but quite why you'd chose to run N1s is anyone's guess!!!!! :P )
There. Clear as mud, is it not? :boggled:!!!

Well this is about as perfect as I can get:

T3: 2'09.394
T6: 4'32.423
T9: 6'47.149

I made one mistake a few corners before T9 but it may not have even cost me any speed/time...I can't see myself beating this, it also doesn't use any slip streaming.

I was supposed to go to a car show today, but my '68 Galaxie Convertible developed fuel trouble AND a bad starter solenoid at the same time! Kept stalling out because of the fuel problem, and wouldn't re-start without me opening the hood and jumping the solenoid terminals with a screwdriver! I finally gave up, and went home -- took me over an hour to go about 10 miles away from home and 10 miles back... Oh well... She's still a work in progress, so I wasn't expecting to win anything, but it was the first "all Ford" show of the season, and I really wanted to be there...

Back on topic, I have new splits to post:
T3: 2'11.346
T6: 4'38.892
T9: 7'01.148

I just hope I'm driving the right car -- I set the AI to level 7, with sport medium tires (EDIT -- that's SM tires on the AI -- I was using Normal Road tires), and I couldn't keep up. Never got close enough to draft off him, and he won the race by over 20 seconds... (Honda S2000, so I wasn't surprised that I couldn't keep up...) I don't know if its the car or my crappy driving...

Just for kicks, I did a test with the 6 qualifying convertibles that I know of, on the Test Track (to remove driver error, since there are no hard turns), and the car I'm driving on the Ring this week got the fastest 1/4 mile time, 1/2 mile time, and overall time in my tests. So I'm pretty sure I'm driving the fastest car available that qualifies for this race...

Ahh, but Lawrence, fastest drag times does not always equate to fastest top speed, and has almost nothing to do with being able to go through the corners... On the other hand, there are a good few straights on the 'Ring, so maybe your theory is a good one...

Anywho, couldn't manage a clean, fast lap this morning. The last hour of my 2 and a half stint, I mainly just was trying to get around the AI cleanly, with the exact same settings that I had been having NO problems with earlier, same car and everything. Then, when I did get ONE clean, fast around him in that hour or so, the rest of my lap sucked everywhere pretty much. So I decided I just couldn't play on the ring anymore. Until now. Time for my before bed stint, hopefully it'll be better than my after bed stint... :)

Well, you're right -- handling means a lot on the Ring, of course. But all these cars can pretty much take the corners at about the same speed -- they're all similar weights and handle similarly. So accelerating quickly back to high-speed after a corner is most important, in my opinion, in this particular race. Thus the fastest car in straight-line acceleration should also be the fastest overall car in the race this week... (I could be wrong, of course...)

Same question asked by ballstothewall earlier this week, and any contact makes the lap dirty. Slipstreaming must have a drawback somewhere :mischievous:
