Thanks to all for setup help. When someone posts some odd values I have to try them out...

new splits:
24.631
55.669

IS ANYONE USING A WING? IS IT LEGAL?

Flat-out
If you can fit a wing on your car, then you're using the wrong car. :)

Ok, Just checking. I didn't try to put one on but figured I'd ask since there was no mention of it...

I like a challenge but I know nothing about car setup and I am completely lost every time we have GT Mode...and I know there's lots of examples and tips in this thread but I have no idea what effect it has on the car when I change it, I don't know if the changes I notice are good or bad? I get the impression I'm persevering with a bastard of a setup but I have no skill to alter my position. GT Mode frustrates me no end, I am handicapped every time :indiff:

MisterWeary,

Have you downloaded the tuning guide? (Link in my signature)

I would recommend spending a couple of hours with it and trying out a tune on this car. I didnt know much about tuning, and im still only scratching the surface, but after 17 weeks of the NRS and some conversations with Scaff im much better off at setting cars up - that might not even make me competitive with some of you guys - its just more rewarding to drive a car thats behaving!

Principle problems with this Lupo is how stiff its set IMO, try using standard suspension and soften it up a bit, from there fine tune to taste:tup:

regards

Dave

I hope you mean 57.8 possible, not 47! :)

You know they're good changes when the car is easier to drive. :D

Here's a tip: Holl01 is the fastest guy here. Copy his settings. (He always posts them eventually -- thanks Holl01!) ;)

And if it's any consolation, you're still running faster than I am. :dopey:

Still have a lot of work (and tuning) to do, but here is what I have for now
27.287
101.155

Horrible splits, but I know I can get faster.

Horrible splits, but I know I can get faster.

That's a bit better than me! :dunce: :D

Anyway, I had a session earlier with different settings (3/4 dampers, lowest ride) and parts (sports suspension, FC LSD at 5/25/5) and was surprised by the smooth ride it gave! Got better splits, by about 1 or 2 seconds better than what I previously had. I didn't got a clean lap, always had a bump somewhere on the track. :indiff:

I went back to the settings page to change the tcs from 2 to 1, since I had left it that way... or did I??? Since I switched from Setup A to Setup B I had left the driving aids at their default, 10/10/7. :odd:

Dunno if that's a good sign or not.

holl01
Hey,

played it for bout 2 hours and managed

24.145
54.779

.... time submitted, cheers:tup:

Now thats confidence you cant buy!!!

Managed a 24.721 & 56.442 then crash at last 3rd gear right-hander :yuck:

Current splits are..
T1; 25.477 (lost 'bout .6)
T2; 56.845 (clean but on edge):D

Regarding setups posted... thx for helping this noob to stay off the walls :P

I have a question: Does a mirror touching the wall count as a wall-touch? I thought someone decided at some point that it didn't count as being a wall touch, since there is no speed reduction in the analyzer, but I can't remember...

Anyway, if a mirror touch doesn't count as a wall-touch, then here are my new splits:
T1: 26.068
T2: 59.943

If a mirror touch does count as a wall-touch, then these splits are from a barely dirty lap, so they should be ignored... Hopefully a mirror touch doesn't matter...

Thanks for the settings, holl01! I've improved my lap with them (that, and adding some tcs :P)

T1: 27.839 (a breeze faster)
T2: 1'00.170 (about 2 seconds faster)

An improvement of 3 and half a second on the lap time. Sweet.:D

Edit : How could I be so daft to not notice the post before mine. :dunce:

Laurence5905, kudos on your under-the-minute T2!

Well I'm using holl01's settings exactly and I've fiddled with them to try and find better/worse changes but I've got nothing. I may spend a couple of hours at some point reading settings guides or something but that's not the part of the game that interests me, I just wanna race :sly:

T1: 0'26.240
T2: 0'58.013

I've seen a 25.7xx and can see a 57.4xx but how you guys are in the 55's and 56's is a mystery?!?

Oh.......and jake......what is with your speed this week?!?!?!? :odd:

Lol, good call on the first part. About the second part, it doesn't always work so nicely... In the past I've started my own tuning, then saw Dan's(Holl) tuning, and then made a mix and match of it to my liking. The key is, everyone drives differently. What works for one person, may not work for another. So going after the fastest person's settings doesn't actually always help you, well, not always as much as it could.

Also, I forgot to go and buy a new car and leave the roll cage option out. Dan, curious, are you using the roll cage on your Lupo?

Try over 500 miles worth of laps! The aliens spend 2 hours I spend 20...:odd:

:embarrassed::scared: Dayum man. You'll be in D1 faster than you think if you keep that up, lol! I'm still only at 110, I wonder where I'd be after 500...

Got a new PS2 today(:bowdown:thanks dad:bowdown:), and I got some new times.

T1-26:714
T2-59:461

One thing I have to say is, you have to be a little:crazy: to get to the first
hairpin at full speed:scared:.

Well another hour or so and I've got much better splits. I've worked a couple of things out:

T1: 0'25.655
T2: 0'56.729

Checked my mileage and I'm at 553.9km so far  Not sure how much more I can find, I know I left 0.1 in the finish but everywhere else is a personal best?!? Combo's growing on me 👍

Awesome splits man! Now I just think you need to try taking the first bit full out until the hairpin, or at least not hit the brakes too much... That's probably where you're losing most of your time, not going through the crazy section fast enough. Did you play with your settings anymore? Or were those on the same ones as the last splits?

I've stuck with holl01's settings, I know it's a cop out of me but GT Mode week's just don't suit me. I know full well Dan's settings are probably better tailored to aliens but now that I've learnt how to use them with moderate success I'll stick with them I think. Just so you know though Kyle, I always read your settings and BTTW's settings and everyone who posts settings but to be honest I'm not that interested at the moment in tinkering with a setup, I just want to dial it in and drive...lazy I know :sly:

Now as for that damn "Start --> T1" section. Here's what I'm doing, if anyone can suggest any changes I'd love to hear them...it seems the rest of the track is okay for me. This breakdown is from observing the data logger on my current best lap:

  • I cross the Start/Finish line at 191km/h (118mph) I brake when I come to a cobble like line across the road. I am in the middle of the road because too far left has a bump, too far right rolls off into the wall. I brake hard down to 132km/h and into 4th gear where I then accelerate through the first left bend (close to the left wall).

  • I brake early to about 87km/h (54mph) for the next tricky right hander and I drop into third to power out of the corner. I try to get close enough to the right wall so the roads camber keeps me on the track. I then power all the way down to the bottom, no brakes, no lifting accelerator at all.

  • I touch the brakes near the bottom of the hill just before the right/left kink prior to the hairpin. I'm doing 180km/h (111mph) when I do this and I also drop back into 4th. I touch them again to get through the "door" like structure and drop back to third...I'm bouncing off the limiter. I then, fairly soon after, brake hard for the hairpin which I take in 2nd and at approximately 48km/h (29mph).

  • I then accelerate out of the hairpin on the far left of the track so as to cut in and under the second "door" like structure swiftly. I use the 2nd to 3rd gear change to settle the car as I'm coming up to the "door" but I'm accelerating the whole way out of the hairpin (with TCS going spastic mind you). I then usually cross T1 in approximately 0'25.750 doing about 123km/h (76mph)

And that's what I'm doing. I've tried taking a couple of those corners differently but nothing is resulting in sub 25 second T1's which it looks like I'll need to be competitive this week. Any hints/suggestions?

Hmm... Sounds pretty damn similar to what I'm doing... Are you trying to straighten the front wheels as soon as possible so the TCS doesn't go too mad coming out of the hairpin? I assume you are of course... Otherwise, sounds pretty much just like me.

I understand when not wanting to touch settings anymore... And if you've been using Dan's all the time, then I'm sure you are indeed used to them! Good deal. Thanks for acknowledging reading the tuning info, too.

My T1's not really that much faster than yours either(I think I might've seen a 25.4, or a 25.5, but nothing faster, I think), so maybe I'll hop in and wait for people to say how they're going faster too. Didn't have any time to run tonight...

I'm still curious as to if Dan's using the Roll cage or not. 👍

I've stuck with holl01's settings, I know it's a cop out of me but GT Mode week's just don't suit me.

I'm using Holl01's settings, with a couple of minor changes. I went +1 on the rear toe, and I added the LSD and set it to 10/35/5. Driving-aids are all turned off. Seems pretty stable to me... Maybe setting the rear toe to +2 would make it a bit more stable, but I don't want to make it too hard to turn (which doesn't seem to be a problem, surprisingly, for this FWD car!) But I might try that if I can't learn to keep the back end under control a little better.

And I'm using just about the same technique as you are on the downhill portion. But I chicken out a bit and hit the brakes more than I should, before the first "door-like" structure. That's why I've got 26.0XX for T1, and not 25-something. I'm losing about 2 seconds in the up-hill section, also... Most folks seem to be getting from T1 to T2 in about 31 seconds (or less, for the aliens!) But it's taking me about 33 seconds to get from T1 to T2... Still have to figure out what I'm doing wrong there...

Try turning the TCS on 1, it'll probably help you get the power down better and accelerate faster in the lower gears(second).

Need to make a push for us DS2 users.

T1 - 25.093 👎
T2 - 55.622 👍 👍

Was a pretty amazingly T1-T2 for me, almost as quick as Dan. If I could do that again, with my previous best T1 of 24.459, I'd get mighty close to breaking 55 flat. I have no idea in hell how Dan does a 24.1xx....

I'm at just under 120 miles (Everyone seems to be posting that this week). And I'm not using TCS, TCS is for pansies.

(PS: Sorry Colby, I was away when you tried to MSN me, except I forgot to put it on 'away', sorry about that mate. I'll hopefully catch you over the weekend)

EDIT: Another 20 miles
T1 - 24.438
T2 - 54.866

(Sorry Colby. Again. But I'm here now!)

24.686
56.096
i finally found all the time avaliable from my setup, then i tried holl01's setup aswell as staying in third up the hills and sudenly there is 2 whole seconds of time i can see!! Crazy! I actualy go up the difficult uphill section so fast i need to brake for the last corner of that section, which i didnt have to do before.
times ive seen are 24.3 and 55.4, i just need to put it together now, anyone got any glue,
EDIT: may i also so say WHOA!! thats awesome casio!

And that's what I'm doing. I've tried taking a couple of those corners differently but nothing is resulting in sub 25 second T1's which it looks like I'll need to be competitive this week. Any hints/suggestions?

Here, I'll reveal my method (good for a 24.413, unfortunately i hit a wall on the uphill to T2 on that lap)

Using Holls settings, DS2, and at 197hp (I can't get 200...I've tried everything)

1. Cross line at 118mph
2. Brake hard to 4th, 108mph, 2 car lengths after a whiteish line on the ground. At about 108, half brake through the rest of the corner, initially staying really close to the left curb, then moving to the middle of the track and giving a short blip of throttle when the front of your car reaches a bright colored barrier (should be around 92 mph here)
3. Brake hard at the end of the barrier, down to 3rd at 74mph, then immediatly to full throttle. While doing this, stay as close to the right wall as possible. You will most likely slide a bit through it. After your front bumper passes the < in the left wall, you should be at 65 mph
4. Full throttle all the way to the door, staying as straight as possible
5. Half a car length before the door (around 119mph), brake HARD to 24mph, staying really close to the inside of the hairpin. Full throttle immediatly, this will be before the apex of the corner (you should hit the apex at 40mph ish)
6. Stay full throttle and take the next corners as straight as possible, DONT go left before the turn just after the hairpin, instead, go diagonally from the apex of the hairpin to the apex of the next corner, and the corner after that.

Please note: you cannot be cautious through here, not in the least. If you are, then you will get a much much slower time

Thats T1 :)

EDIT: Times, finally, about 3-4 hours total spent on this combo so far
T1: 24.584 (meh)
T2: 55.639

Unfortunately, I'm still losing a lot in T2, I have no idea how to do it right (especially the hard right)

New Splits again, finally figured out T2
24.245 (saw a 24.194)
55.087

Now to figure out the second hairpin

Used holls settings, TCS 1, lsd 555, ds2, 197hp, no brake balance controller

New splits

T1: 26.710
T2: 59.439

I've noticed that white line on the ground after the start/finish one, CoolGeekz. Much thanks for your input. :)

Well I went back to the standard LSD and took the TCS off and my new lap looks like similar splits, but I cut 0.75 at the line  And I thought my old finish was good  I've seen a 25.2 and so I guess another 0.5 - 0.7 would be nice:

T1: 0'25.704
T2: 0'56.755

I think I'm out for this week.

I just realised I've been using the GTI Cup Car, and not the straight Lupo. The GTI is an '03 and not the '00.

I'm too bummed to start again. :indiff:

^^
.....
Darn it! No wonder I was getting only 197 and unable to install the bbc...

I set up the correct car this time, actually seems a tad faster in some areas (I just need to get a clean lap now).

MisterWeary, take my time off the leaderboard....

back to square one

EDIT: I might be out also...can't focus because i wasted a ton of time. We'll see what happens I guess

Hmmm...I think there were a few others claiming they couldn't get to 200 as well...seem's we've found the reason.

As for my race, every time I figure out one corner another goes belly-up! Still a fun race but all this restarting is making me thirsty...

Another positive from this week is it's forced me to go back to bumper view. I switched back to the trailing camera a few weeks back and wanted to get back into the bumper view and this week I have. Without it, it's hard to know exactly how close you can get to the walls  (That should please you Dan :sly: )
